A Lewiston woman has taken a controversial sexual education book out of two central Maine libraries and refuses to return it, calling the book "pornographic." We invite you to share your thoughts on the story.

I wonder how this woman would feel if I went around to the libraries there and checked out copies of any religious books and refused to return them on the grounds that they are offensive to those of us who do not follow 'mainstream' religion?

I'm guessing, they'd probably throw a tiff. A really big one at that.

Please stop supporting this woman - she is setting a bad example that could easily lead us down a path similar to the book, "Fahrenheit 411".

The content of the book is for parents to decide whether or not it's appropriate for their child(ren). How dare this woman assume she knows what is best for other peoples' families. Forced censorship and book banning reminds me of long lost days... for a reason! It's a free country, lady. Mind your own business.

Look people. It's a $4.00 dollar book. I'll purchase a copy or 2 and send them to the library. Why are you folks wasting the county or cities money by prosecuting this lady? It's $4.00! Just replace the book and ban her from the library.

It's been a number of years since i've been to Maine.Spent a lot of time there in my childhood,Guess you people did away with Television also since i've been there last. Seems to me the book is needed in your libary,as well as many others. If she wants her childre to lean on the back of a school bus,or learn the hard way by TV thats her problem.Put the book back LADY (@*$%^)

From all the way across the continent, from one who knows New England and Maine,: JUST WHAT MAKES THIS PERSON WHO OBJECTS TO AN EXCELLENT AND INFORMATIVE BOOK, an expert? What is her background except her own ignorant fear of physiological provens?

Ever thine,

After reading this story this fall, I researched this book and ended up buying it for my daughter. It is entirely appropriate for pre-teens and tastefully done. I wish I had had access to this kind of book when I was young, rather than relying on the sometimes bizarre theories that my friends and I came up with.

Ask why the pictures of the book are not being televised?

Is anybody interested in the web site to view some of the pictures?

When will people stop trying to be politically correct and stand up for what they believe in??? Three cheers for Mrs. Karkos! A book like this does not belong in the childrens section of our public library. Too many children are already behaving or attempting to behave in an adult like manor. How far are we all willing to let this continue on? I'm glad Mrs. Karkos had the guts to act on her beliefs. God has layed down rules for us and I'm proud of Mrs. Karkos for her actions.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS WHO ASSIGNED HER AS THE CONSCIENCE OF MAINE!! SHE HAS ABSOLUTLY NO RIGHT TO CENSOR WHAT I OR MY DAUGHTERS WANT TO TEACH THE CHILDREN IN OUR FAMILY. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PROTECT ANYONES CHILDREN( GRAND,NEICES NEPHEWS ECT...) WORRY ABOUT YOUR FAMILY! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN MAKE SURE TO PROVIDE SOMEONE TO CHAPERONE THEM,BUT DO NOT STEP ON MY CONSITUTIONAL RIGHTS!!!!! I DO FIND IT FUNNY THAT WHAT SHE HOPED TO DO IS TURNING OUT THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE.

WALK IN PEACE,DebK Cole

I wish I had this book when raising my four children. How much better to have an informative, well illustrated book to go over with our kids, instead of them learning about it from outside sources. I think the cartoon type illustrations are so much less graphic than some found in other books. It is also a great aid to teaching diversity. The alternative life styles are here and are not going away! So our kids may as well be informed with a book like this and not hear the sick, distorted views that are out there.
