How do you think the Steelers looked this week? Are they legitimate Super Bowl contenders?

Until they make a decision to keep the young talent after they brng them along, they will only be an average team. They did get rid of Tom Donahoe, which was a much needed move. He had no experience and his moves reflected that. He did a great job of ridding the team of talent with experience. You can't continue to develop players, and when they reach a high level, at which point they would be eligible for the BIG paycheck, let them get away. The Rooney's have got to spend some of the money they are making on the new stadium to keep players in Pittsburgh after they gain the experience.

Your 10-6 prediction on your website will be wrong, including the win against the Vikings.

They will be 8-8 and still have a below average quarterback.

Stewart will be able to run, but he still can't throw a long pass.

I don't think things are going to be all that great offensively. We have Kordell getting a QB coach. Great. But this was needed 3 years ago plus he shows no desire to improve. We have two 1st round recievers who have yet to show anything at all...Edwards should be let go if he does not produce within 3 games. And the weight of burden hangs on an aging ( by NFL standards ) Running Back with the Bus...If he blows a knee the Stillers are dead. 7-9.

When will Bill and the other Steeler Coaches wake up and realize the best use of Kodell Stewart's talent would be as a running back who can have the option of the halfback pass...with Tommy Maddox under center and Kordell at Tailback and Amos Z at flanker...oppossing defenses would be stressed out and The Steelers could be winners...with Kordell under center the best that can be hoped for is a 9 and 7 season

are you all nuts? Put the XFL MVP at QB in the NFL, where he has been rejected by no less than 4 teams? Put a 6'2" 210lbs. Stewart at RB where he can throw the HB pass... boy that wouldn't give anything away everytime he comes in the game.... and finally a very unproven Amos Z at RB? It hink this would opponents fall over in layghter.

As most football fans know, it takes a GOOD 5 years to develop as a QB in the NFL. This will be Stewarts 5th year as a starter, so give him a chance, besides he has had a new coordinator pretty much every year. Everyone seems to foget about the steady progress and leadership he showed last year. He had a 7-4 record as a starter.

As for the Rooneys being frugal. You do realize that there is a salary cap in this league. Sure signing bonuses are a way to get around that in the present, but it will hurt you in the future, i.e. the 49ers. and Dallas. The key, as Donahoe was a genius at, is to get young guys who can play w'in a particular system. Besides who has gone onto stardom after they have left?

Wake up and smell the games in January... we'll be in the playoffs this year.

Cower is the only coach in the leauge that has been with his team for the last three years and hasn't been in the playoffs, Stewert is the only starting quaterback in the NFL that has been starting for the same team the last three years and hasn't been in the playoffs. WAKE UP!!!!!! we don't need more avarge widerecievers drafted in the 1st round everyyear or a new offensive coordinator every year, all we need is a quaterback that can through the ball.

It does not take 5 years to develop an NFl QB...that is ludicrous!! Kordell needed a QB coach 3 years ago. I have never witnessed a QB getting such a long grace period as Kordell. The only reason he is still here is $$$$ Don't get me wrong I want the guy to improve but right now I still am not impressed. Hopefully between the QB coach and the new OC the Stillers will be able to do something. But I still think they might wind up with games that will drive everyone nuts...like splitting the series with the Browns again....

The Steelers don't need a great quarterback, just an effective one. Kordell is neither of these. Before this season is over, Tommy Maddox will be the starter.

I'm sure all of us would love to see the Kordell of 1997 show up. I just don't see it happening anytime soon. Kordell's not the only problem though. When your best performing player is the punter, your team has some major problems.

well druid....name me one curent QB in the NFL, w/ the exception of Manning, who has come in w/in their first couple of seasons and have led their team onto tremendous seasons? If you think in the current systems of the NFL that a QB can come in and reach the peak of his immediate potential, you don't know jack about professional football.

As for this coach and QB 3 season w/o playoff crap. What have all these teams that have made changes at headcoach and QB done after the changes? I suspect NOTHING. Teams that constantly change in the NFL, ie the Bengals, Atlanta, Chicago, Arizona simply stink and that's all there is to it.

How about these QBs? Kurt Warner Daunte Culpepper Donovan McNabb Aaron Brooks Jeff Garcia Brian Griese

I'm not sure what the answer is. There are several things that need to happen though.

1. Plaxico and Troy need to start catching. How can a QB be confident when the guys he throws to can't catch? Just think what would happen if these guys had hands like Hines Ward or Yancey.

2. Better line play. A couple games last year the offensive line was pathetic. Everything is keyed of of strong line play. If you can run effectively, the passing game opens up. Strong line play would take pressure off the QB. The result? More time to throw and higher completion rates. I personally think this is the biggest key to the Steelers success or lack-ther-of. Yeah, it's boring talking about the guys on the line, but behind every great offensive line is a great offense.

3. Let Kordell be Kordell. OK, he's an average pocket QB. That's not him though.

4. In most cases you want the QB to fit into the system. Maybe we should do something radical like perhaps building the system to fit our players. Capitalize on their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses.
