Sen. Rick Santorum, a republican from Penn Hills, made some controversial comments while discussing a Supreme Court case involving a Texas sodomy law.
In an interview with the Associated Press, he said, "If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything."
A Santorum spokeswoman said the senator's comments "were specific to the Supreme Court case."
Some gay-rights groups are urging Republican leaders to consider removing Santorum from the GOP Senate leadership.
What do you have to say about this issue?

PPSInsdider, you have your facts WRONG! The majority of new HIV infections are among STRAIGHT people. AIDS is not predominantly a gay disease. Santorum is a bigot, and continues to show his closemindedness each time he opens his mouth. He acts as though he is moral, while he preaches hate. In addition, he abuses his power -- claiming to "reside" in Penn Hills so that his kids' schooling costs less, and he PAYS LESS. Hypocrite!

If AIDS is a predominantly gay disease and spreading rapidly, then aren't current sodomy laws in place to protect the innocent? Bisexuals spread AIDS to the unknowing straight population (in my opinion). I don't have a problem with gays that are aware of the dangers of sodomy and practice safe sex. But many of them are completely determined to have sex whenever, wherever and with whomever they can. Has anyone seen the Nightline episode on "The Gift". What a sick, disgusting, amoral objective. I'm not saying that every gay think that way, but obviously a growing number do. If gays want to mary then have "high risk" insurance policys available to prevent the rest of the normal population from bearing the cost of AIDS treatment.

I just scanned the olsteeler statement. You are really sad. Do you know that 10% of the population is gay? 11% of the population is black, to give you an idea. So if gay and if he or she were green, you would be seriously frightened. That's a lot of green folks. So the powers to be chose or ignore and lose this market they're pretty much idiots and not in touch with the community as they proclaim to be.. So food for thought how many black people do you know? You know or care for, and deal with just as many gays except you don't know it. I assure all of you, you do have a gay member in your family somewhere. Open your eyes, you to Rick

Santorum represents all that is wrong with this country while the decision represents all that is right with our country. At least he is honest about his views rather than try to lie about his views about homosexuality unlike many other Republicans and the President!
Sincerely, Jim

The title of this forum topic is incorrect. It's not that Santorum angered gays. It's that Santorum continues to disgust anyone who is not a moron or a bigot.

Kosh, I did not know about Santorum's morbid ceremony. His kids will probably need counceling at some point with such fixations as he has.
I could not agree more with your comment that if people do not like homosexuality, then they do not need to fantasize about it. In my opinion, the real perverts are the ones who sit around, picturing other people having sex! I know plenty of gay people, and we talk about all kinds of things: doing work on the house and yard, cooking, our jobs, our families. I have yet to hear them dwell on the intimate details of their lives in the bedroom. Santorum is the real pervert in this case. His imagination is just plain yucky.

b842001, I hate to argue, but did you read the greater context of Santorum's remarks, especially his argument that "the right to privacy does not exist in the Constitution"? I don't mind if the Senator wants to keep his family growing at six and counting (even though he and his wife brought their miscarried fetus home for the other children to see before burial). I don't care if he wants to live in DC rather than Penn Hills. That's his right. And my right is to be left alone as well - especially what I do in the privacy of my home.
I also must admit that I haven't read more passionate briefs from the Court - on both sides - in quite some time. Justice O'Connor (whom I am beginning to respect more each day) I thought deftly and perhaps unintentionally quashed the old "love the sinner; hate the sin" argument as well:
"Texas argues, however, that the sodomy law does not discriminate against homosexual persons. Instead, the State maintains that the law discriminates only against homosexual conduct. While it is true that the law applies only to conduct, the conduct targeted by this law is conduct that is closely correlated with being homosexual."
Still, nothing gave me chills more than the words of Justice Kennedy: "Had those who drew and ratified the Due Process Clauses of the Fifth Amendment or the Fourteenth Amendment known the components of liberty in its manifold possibilities, they might have been more specific. They did not presume to have this insight. They knew times can blind us to certain truths and later generations can see that laws once thought necessary and proper in fact serve only to oppress. As the Constitution endures, persons in every generation can invoke its principles in their own search for greater freedom."
If you get disgusted about gay sex, then don't think about it. It's that simple.
