Some Dartmouth College student skeptics said they are unhappy that Mr. Rogers is their commencement speaker. What is your opinion of their disdain? Would you be proud to have him speak at your event?

I cannot believe the sad and unbelievable outrage of any person not accepting Mr Rogers to speak at any event for them. Wow!! this man changed so many peoples lives including mine. Fred Rogers cannot be measured to Barney because the show Barney and Friends teaches children that love is out there and everyone will always love and understand you. Mr. Rogers gave it to you straight and said hey kids i love you and you are special so other people can like you and treat you nice but some people wont and thats ok. He didnt candy coat life. Fred simply let children know how important they are to society and that their hearts were their most important commodity. I am sad for those kids words but i know in the same token that Fred Rogers is seated at the right hand of God right now and Fred deserves an eternity of great things. I love you Mr. Rogers and thanks for being the wonderful missionary that you are!
In Love Jason

I think these little 22 year olds should sit down and watch his shows to learn a little thing towards respect. I have had the gracious chance to hear Fred Rogers speak and he is excellent. He is an ordained minister and a wonderful human being. If these students give him a chance they might find out that there is more to him than his puppets. Although I am sure that they sat down a watched the show too when they were children but now that they think that they are adults, their egeo's are too big to admit that part. Fred Rogers, I salute you for being a wonderful and selfless human being. Those are qualities that are hard to come by this day and age.
For all my love to this nation, wildsmiles

How very sad that these ungrateful students didn't welcome Fred Rogers as a valued speaker at their graduation;c'mon people he has feelings just like the rest of us & as kind & gentle of a person he is,I'm sure this snubbing by these "so called adults" really hurt his feelings.I recall growing up with Mr. Rogers,my 12 year old daughter watched him,now my 4 year old daughter loves him as well. One of my 4 year olds' favorite part of Idewild Park in Ligonier is Mr. Rogers neighborhood, she cannot wait to ride on the trolley & sing the theme song at the end of the ride! I figure if these DartMOUTH brats think back, they will remember watching Mr. Rogers & recall with fond memories the lessons they learned. I still love to watch the show with my little one (Daniel Tiger is my favorite!)To snub Mr.Rogers is to snub America to me cause he is as American as baseball & apple pie! Fred Rogers, you will always be loved in our household!

Fred Rodgers Rocks! This graduating class ought to get a life, and welcome this man!
I graduated from Slippery Rock back in May 1992, and I remember we had Lou Pappan as our guest speaker. Chicken! Chicken!! Chicken!!!

I fail to see what all the fuss is about as concerns Mr. Rogers speaking at the Dartmouth College Commencement since he's been such an inspiration to us all over the years.
Best Regards James

Mr. Rogers spoke at North Carolina State University's graduation a few years ago and was one of the most eloquent speakers that I have heard. They should be proud to have him!

I was appalled when I read this originally. I would encourage you to contact Mr. Rogers and show him your support. I sent him a brief note letting him know that I would be more than proud to have him speak at my commencement. I got stuck with Rick Santorum using his commencement speech to campaign on very controversial issues.
Clinton? Albright? Reich? Give me a break.

I see your college education was wasted! What a shame for your parents. I think for the students who made the disrespectful comments about Fred Rogers, was very childish behavior. It is hard to believe that you call yourselves college graduates. At the very least you owe him a written apology. The irony of this all you probally sat down when you were 2 years old and didn't know it,and loved the puppets! You have a lot to learn in life, a lot of lessons college cannot teach you and maybe you will eventually grow up. As for Fred Rogers he is a wonderful person and role model for childen. I grew up watching him, and my children are too.

I would love to have a good talk with this little 22 year old punk who had the audacity to refer to Fred Rogers as "someone who played with puppets for a living". Fred Rogers is one of the most highly intellectual people I've ever met. I attended U.C.San Diego and have friends that attended Stanford and I guarantee you, we would have been honored to have him at our commencement. Even though he attended Dartmouth some years ago, someone obviously thought very highly of him to invite him to speak. Fred Rogers could teach this much selfish generation a thing or two about humanity and humilty, not to mention selflessness. How dare they be offended!
