WOW, what a deal for the media and the demolition company! As long as there is one red cent owed on the now gone stadium, then never forget the mortgage that was left, over thirty million dollars! You know somebody is going to eat that expense or debt, in all liklihood, the taxpayers!!! Many people would like to blow up their house and not have to worry about the repercussions, but we all know that's against the law. When you have the "big bucks", you can do as well as you damned well please!!!

The title "Gone But Not Forgotten" is inexplicably true. I know that everyone is tired of hearing about the "IMPLOSION" from last Pirate and Steeler games to date change after date change, truefully I'm still trying to get rid of cups at my job with the original date of February 18th 2001. But here is the real truth, from fond memories of games and championships past to looking at the rubble and work done day after day from my place of employment The Grandview Saloon Restaurant it is all quite depressing. My whole view has changed, home no longer looks like home, and I feel this way along with my regular customers who live in Mt. Washington. We've watched the new ball fields go up in amazement on how quick progress was being made but in denial that Three Rivers was going to be a Stadium of the past and we would be looking at the off ramp of the Fort Duquesne Bridge. I personally have many a fond memory in Three Rivers and watching my own 20 years of memories crumble in a matter of seconds will not compare to my whole home, life and view being dessimated in a matter of seconds. The "Implosion" is over for most but not all, some are still in disbelief that their view is forever changed and getting used to looking at the city they loved with a whole new perspective.
Sincerely, Meghan: Mt. Washington

I can understand the loss of a legendary field of memories that the die hard fans of Pittsburgh went through with the implosion. We in Baltimore will bond a fond adieu to the Old Grand Dame of 33rd Street, the House of Miracles, Memorial Stadium. Demolition is set for next month, which is expected to be completed by late September.
As teams bid for bigger revenues, the true blue fan is left out. Many teams threaten cities if new venues are not built. We in Baltimore learned that hard lesson of life with the loss of our beloved Colts on a cold, snowy night March 28, 1984.
These new venues are not built with the fan in mind. These are built for the corporations that wine and dine clients, and their bosses, while the average fan is left out in the cold.
Ask yourself this question, is your sports teams playing for the love of the game, or are they persuing the corporate dollar that makes losers of us all?
Give me Memorial Stadium, Three Rivers, and Forbes. At least real fans and real memories were cherished there for those fans. The future holds nothing but sterile, boorish mammoths to monetaty gain, the new "stadia", as the sports clubs sacrifice their fans at the alter to the Almighty Dollar.
Sincere Regards, Jim Jones Catonsville, Maryland.

My best memory in Three Rivers Stadium is the '94 All-Star game. I was there when Frank Thomas hit the farthest home run in Three Rivers Stadium history. Im only 14 and i havn't been to alot of games there but the '94 All-Star game was my best memory.

in response to this website asking for memories of 3 rivers stadium, well, i simply have far too many memories to name. however, when i was younger, my dad and i attended many sunday afternoon games at 3rivers even though pittsburgh was 2 1/2 hours away. a trip to pittsburgh and a ballgame became a bonding experience for us throughout the 70s and half of the 80s. my father died of cancer in may of 1986. my biggest memory was walking through gate c for the first time in june of 1986 without my dad. i had tears in my eyes as this stadium meant a lot to the both of us. i'll never forget this moment. i also totally opposed the demolition of 3rivers. in fact, pnc park will not be frequented by our family as i loved the old "cookie cutter" stadium. in fact, i love ALL cookie cutter ballparks. i now feel that all new stadiums look similar.this is ironic as most people thought that the old cookie cutter stadiums looked alike! close to our home is the new pirate affiliate altoona curve's new stadium. the stadium is similar to new pnc park. after attending 2 games last summer with my wife i can honestly say that we will never attend another game in altoona as the facility is really poor as i believe pnc will be. i was around when old forbes field came down. i loved forbes field and it hurt to see it go but it was clearly time to move on as the park was very old. clearly, it wasn't time for 3rivers to go as it was a structurely sound facility. i'll never forget the first time i heard anyone speak about building a new stadium in pittsburgh. i thought that the person was crazy! it was on a popular am pittsburgh radio station where the host of the show stated that a new stadium is just what pittsburgh needs. he said "look what happened in cleveland. they built a new ballpark and they are sold out every night". HELLO!!!!!!!!!! the indians bought a bunch of free agent ballplayers and started winning! will kevin @$^%#$#@ mcclatchie buy free agents of any substance to support the new stadium? if not, there will be 20,000 empy seats seats every night after the novelty of the new stadium wears off. incidentally, every caller to the call in show made negative comments about a new stadium in pittsburgh. also, the transition from old 3rivers to the building of the 2 new ballparks was handled very poorly. very little parking was the reason my wife and i had to turn around and head home after attempting and failing to secure parking twice last season (2 1/2 hour trip one way!). our gate c parking area was now for season ticket holders only. in closing, here's to the memories of warm summer sunday afternoons spent at 3rivers throughout the 70s and 80s and 90s when good baseball (most of the time) was why a person went to the ballpark (as opposed to the recent 3rivers gimmicks of bars in the outfield, tshirts shot out of a giant slingshot and rock bands playing outside gate c). pnc is a totally unneccessary ballpark that, after 30+ years of attending games in the city of pittsburgh, i will never see. GOODBYE 3RIVERS! I LOVED YA!!!

I had the priveledge of watching the implosion from a friends condo on Mt. Washington. I think that had to be one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. It's sad to see it go. I've seen many Steeler games in there, and am looking forward to seeing many more in the new stadium.

Would like to say that this has been very strange for me. All my life, new things have been built, and things changed. Very little has been destroyed. I am from McKees Rocks, and you can see the stadium from my back yard (I live near the top of a hill). It has been wierd because the stadium has been there my whole life. It is the one thing in Pittsburgh that has seemed to be a constant in the city. Upon every trip into town, we would have to pass the stadium, it was just always there. Now in the blink of an eye, it was destroyed. Something that has been there and you always knew was there is suddenly gone. It will take some getting used to, but it will be strange for awhile having a part of your background gone from existance.

You know something. I dont' understand ppl today. You know there are so many ppl on here that say that they are sad to see the old staduim go....But I will bet that they were one of the first ones there. You know I will not step foot in the other stadium because I want to remember the old memories. I just don't understand. Amanda&Doug

Hi there....Well we have a lot of memories of Three River Stadium like the concert of The Country music festival. I went there with my husband and parents along with his cousin that she was blind. I feel that the stadium was only a little over 30 yrs old. I am tired of them taking memories away form pittsburgh. I also think that it is wrong for them not to let the fans of pittsburgh take a rock or two. I mean whats the difference. What are then going to do with them...build another stadium with them. And they say one of the reasons is they think that ppl is going to sell them come on......whoever thought of that one needs to get a life. If you have any commets, please fell free to E-mail me. I would like to know what other ppl think...about the rock (trouble).
