Do you have any recommendations on things to do with the kids on sunny days, rainy days, hot days, cold days, etc.?
Are you looking for something to do with the kids, or do you have a recommendation for other moms?
Post it here for local moms to see!

I love doing all sorts of activities with my 3 yr old and 8 month old. I have joined "Burgh Families & Friends, BFF, on meetup. There are always great ideas, activities, and a message board with all kinds of ideas. It is definitely a great resource for moms, and dads, in the Pittsburgh Area.

My two sons and I go to as many local parks as possible.Take frozen juice bags like Capri Sun, cut the top off for an instant slushie! The Wave pool is great/inexpensive too. Two great cheap daytrips are Lake Erie (beach 6)and Pymatuning. On the way to Pymatuning, take the lower exit on 79N and stop in Greenville. There's a real train along side the road that the kids love to explore-free!They love it! Also,Pgh.PPG Plaza fountain on a hot day. The incline from Mt.Wash.to Station Sq.to the subway.Stop at Gateway and walk to PPG and to the Point for a Pgh. daytrip! There are so many more places to go for very little money. We have a small cooler that we take with drinks and snacks.Eat good before you leave the house! An at home idea especially for little ones: Do not leave them unattended.... Get a bucket of water and large paint brush. They love painting the sidewalk/driveway! I hope this gives someone inspiration!

Wow, what an awesome topic!! I am a SAHM and I do lots of stuff with our two kids. Here is an great blog that gives great ideas for art time and songs: http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/ She is amazing. For me, when it's rainy, I bake with the kids, we make cookies or a quick bread, I let them pour the ingredients into the bowl, and then we all sit down and enjoy the treat. This past weekend, we made ice cream with our old-fashioned crank freezer. Today, I got them to collect twigs, and leaves from the yard, and we made crayon rubbings of them. Yesterday we painted a big rock that's in our front yard. I also try to get them involved in daily chores, hanging the laundry outside, or dusting, each kid gets a sock to put over their hand and help me dust, etc.

I am a grandmom and the most important thing I can tell new moms is get those kids outside....to me kids need outside activities, parks, picnics, tag, sports, a water hose attached to a fun spray, hopscotch, croquet, frisbee....I can go on and on.....my kids played outside all the time....they never wanted to come in and that was in the 1970's and 80's....we need to bring some of that back with today's kids...and all of these activities will burn calories........thanks for listening.
Sincerely, Linda J. Mason

I'm 21, but I enjoy a hobby that most parents love doing with their kids. It's called geocaching.
geocaching.com is where it all starts out, and they're going to say you need a GPS. You don't. If you have one though it's all the better.
Just look for caches near your house and go outside with the kids and try to find them! There are plenty of hints in the descriptions for each cache, as well as the comments. Sometimes you can find ones that people before you left some memorabilia in it for you. It'll be a neat little treasure hunt for the kids.
What might help is if you find it first, put it back in it's hiding place and then guide your child with the "warmer.. cooler" method of finding it. Then log that you found the cache and move onto the next one. You can find some really cool parts of rural and urban areas this way

We converted an old flower bed into a sandbox. During the summer we hide rocks that we painted gold and silver in the sand box. Then we "dig for treasure." Our 3 year old loves it b/c you never know where the treasure is hidden.

As a Daddy to a 4 year old, I recommend, especially as the weather is getting nicer a trip to Beechwood Farms just outside of Fox Chapel.
It's a great walking, hiking, playing educational area that can easily have 3 or 4 hours go by very quickly, moreso, it gets the kids outside, enjoying nature and exercising!
And Ba Ba Booey to ya'll I hope you enjoy!

My son liked story times when he was that age (At almost two, he's a bit more active now). Most book stores have them. You can call or check their websites for schedules. When the weather is nice, a local park is always fun. Even before my son could walk, he loved the park. There is so much to see and do even if your son is just crawling. This is a great option now that the weather is getting nice.
Good luck! Angela
