Should the city allow charities to feed the homeless in downtown Orlando?

If a homeless person truly want to eat, he will find where to go to eat. He will find the church or shelter that offers food. If a city wants to set up certain parts to stay clean and family friendly, the tax payers have a right. You all act like there is nowhere else for the homeless to go other than Lake Eola.

Sure, why not. I think the city beautiful has done a wonderful job of making Lake Eola a beautiful place to watch the homeless lay around in the grass all day and urinate on the bushes in front of families. But hey, as long as they get their free meal.

The thing is, djp, is that Churches don't need that kind of rif-raf hanging around. Next thing you know, they would want to go to church there on Sunday, thus not only besmirching the image of Central Floridians, but casting a dark shadow over the very institution that makes us so special. Besides, if you feed the hungry, they just get hungry again. How rude! Why feed people like that and risk not being able to afford stain glass windows depicting the charity of our diety so He can see what we're really like, deep down. It's the spirit that counts!

You're all heart, Bob; Feed the homeless, but not where they live. Perhaps we should send them to Guantanamo to be fed. And while they're there, let the goons work them over until they thank us for liberating them from being homeless terrorists. They will return to us with a much better attitude, even if they still don't have a place to shower up so they can get a job. Amen.

Jim, You are so right on on this subject. let the churches set up feeding areas on their property. Those who want to enjopy Lake Eola will have a clean safe park and the hungry will be fed.

I agree the hungry should be fed. What sort of person would disagree.

The problem is homeless would congregate and mill around downtown waiting for the dinner bell to chime...

Similar situations have ocurred all over the world.. San Francisco, Amsterdam to name just two cities that have provided compassionate care to the less fortunate...

Now, these places have alienated the folks who spend money that make these cities great and no longer wish to compete for their piece of the sidewalk....

Raised in NYC I think I know what I am talking about...

I agree that we should feed the homeless. However, I'm embarrassed for Jim-showing his lack of research. Why is this guy able to spew his views, without so much as a five minute google search for some fact? I've seen him attacked for getting facts wrong in discussion boards of his previous rants, but this is one of the most simple topics, and yet he doesn't take five minutes out of his busy day of holding grudges against everybody to get some simple facts straight.

He says that there should be a compromise... that people should be allowed to feed the homeless elsewhere, perhaps in churches. But the fact is, the city only forbade people from going into the park to feed the homeless. The day after they passed this decision (one that I disagree with), there was a group that set up a station on the edge of the park, and the homeless were able to come to them. The police didn't do anything about it, because after reading the ordinance, they found nothing illegal about what was going on. And that's not even having to go to other groups to find a place to feed them.

Jim, why you're still allowed to rant about topics that you have obvious ignorance of, is beyond me. But I guess we all would like a job that we didn't have to do any work....

Yes, the City should allow the homeless to be fed. It is wrong to deny the most basic of necessities such as food and water to those who have nothing. We are supposed to be a humane society who helps to take care of those less fortunate. Are we supposed to corral the homeless and move them all to less desireable neighborhoods so as not to clutter the parks??? We have so many good citizens who want to help those in need. Let's make it easier for them to do this work - not more difficult.
