Should police be able to use cameras to catch red-light runners?

If adding cameras to the intersections would cut down on accidents caused by people who are rushing here and there, yes, we should add them. But, we should also make sure that the lights are timed sufficiently so that nobody gets stuck with a "stop short" or "run the light" situation.

The Red Light Camera's are good but sometimes you have no choice to run thru the light especially if your just coming to the light and the light changes very quickly and you don't want to slam on the breaks, You would cause a rear end crash. Also what should be done is that post signs saying Keep right execpt to pass on left, All slow drivers driving under the speed limit keep right along with having turcks and buses staying out of the far left lanes on a 6 or more lane road way.

Cameras have been used effectively in many other states for more than a decade. Florida is way behind the times and has the vehicle crash fatality statistics to prove it. We are long overdue for a change in laws allowing police to ticket the vehicle owner so photo-enforcement can be used.

The fines also need to be raised significantly - to several hundred dollars. The cost of running a red light needs to be prohibitive. It is presently a joke. Law enforcement should also be able to confiscate the vehicle of an repeat offender.

The cost of camera purchase and installation would be quickly and effectively subsidized, if not covered in full, by fines from catching these morons during the initial phase. After the first year or so, when most people have learned to actually observe the law, camera maintenance would be subsidized by fines from the ignorant few who persist.

Red light running is a pervasive and extremely serious problem in Florida. It requires an extremely serious means of resolution.

We have recently moved to the area from Portland Oregon. We have had these cameras for years now. It has very successfully taken dangers of red light runners out of your commute. I was amazed at the rate that it was happening in central Florida. One must wait for 2-4 cars to come through the signal after it has already changed. Many accidents will be prevented if it becomes wide spread practice without notice postings.

It's about time the Police dept. does something very effective. I've seen red light runners every day including school buses crossing off John Young Parkway to Town Center Blvd. I hope this is ultimate solution to red light runners.

I wish the specific intersection had not been revealed. Maybe a news story about the danger and then the revelation that "key" intersections will or do have cameras might make the potential light runners think twice. The cameras coupled with a fine larger than the state fine of $78-$125 would probably deter some of the red light running scum.

A fine of $500 plus mandatory jail time would do even more.

Anything the Police can do to make people think about running red lights would help. I never pull right out when the light turns green as you never know when someone is going to come right through the red light.

MOST DEFINITELY. They especially need police to ticket the INCONSIDERATE IDIOTS that turn west onto the road that runs in front of Millenia Mall off John Young Parkway in the morning. There's usually 8 - 10 morons running each one of those lights. Also, it would be nice if they'd ticket the speeders off Dr. Phillips Blvd and the street by the library over there. There's LOTS of money to be made and lives to save. Better yet, just taser these jerks.

Absolutely cameras should be allowed in catching those who run red lights. And I have no problem with it being a cash cow for whatever city, county, etc. There will always be people who disagree with this type of thing just because they are contrary. But those who are truly opposed will be those who are running the red lights. This type of policing is fair and equitable to everyone. Don't run a red and you'll not be receiving a notice from the local authorities. Run it and I hope they throw the book at you!
