ONLY RESPONSES THAT INCLUDE A FIRST NAME, LAST NAME AND CITY ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE USED IN WESH NEWSCHANNEL 2 NEWSCASTS.
Should deputies be allowed to use Tasers against uncooperative suspects?

When it comes down to it very few offenders actulay possess a weapon and or the ability, desir to use it, so that being said and the fact that "police" dont even go after the "bad guy" any more they wate on a traffic ticket to catch them ,and send in the SWAT team, for the "real" cons,,,why do police carry weapons anyways?!!!.. in a stressful situation an office empting a "clip" 17 rounds will be lucky to hit the target twice, so tell me where did the other 15 go???!!!there are countries that dont carry guns and deal with "bad guys" all the time. Maby if the police were striped of all ther weapons the police would not be so pompus and arrogant twords the public in general, resulting in a more diplomatic resolve to the event...from an x con

Absolutely, they should. If I had a family member or loved one in a situation where the police had to respond with force, I would rather them be tasered than shot! Anybody who protests the taser usage is forgetting that if you aren't breaking the law, the police wouldn't need to use the taser to begin with.

I think you should get a choice before they fire. Do you want us to shoot you with a taser or with bullets? It is like paper or plastic? We all have our answers memorized by now. This way you have your freedom to choose.

Thanks, Virginia P - We need to be very afraid of people who believe it is ok to taser any child in school or otherwise. Our local sheriff is so gung ho about using tasers, he referred to it being much better to taser someone than to shoot them. When was the last time any child at school required shooting? Any unruly child at school has always been handled by larger adults without having to take a chance on killing them or hospitalizing them. We really need to rethink how liberally we allow an officer to just stick a taser to someone and shoot them with it just because they can. Please, can't someone make these people understand this is not a police state and they do not have the right to mistreat their citizens.

I do agree with J5155, I am currently enrolled in a law enforcement program. I have seen footage and have heard of stories from instructors about the use of Guns, Batons, Asp,Tazer and Mace. It seems to me that if i were a suspect that i wold rather be Maced or Tazed for these items in most cases do not have a lasting effect. While being tazed last for less than a minute being maced will last approx. 45 minutes. There have been situations that people have died from being maced, where there heart became overly excited with the scoufle of an officer and at some point sprayed and was not able to maintain there breathing or calm down.
I do agree that if possible an officer should be able to use a correct amount of force in response to the level of resistance. As well, we should be responsible for our actions as adults or that of our children.
Once you openned your mouth you did erase all doubt, you are a fool.

I think that tasers are ok.. there alot better than guns but at the same times police officers use extreme force when its not needed. I have seen them speed, run red lights and just because they dont want to wait in line at a light like the rest of us, turn on their flashing lights and run the light then i see them at the next light doing the same thing... so sometimes they need to be tasered!!! But yes tasers are better than guns! kelli Hawkins

I say Tasers..... Yes. It is a shame police have to resort to taserng children. Though I have seen plenty of bad children in my time. I say lock the children up and flog then taser the parents (not necessarily in that order)

To the average peaceful non violent, mind his own business individual, the police at best seem like a necessary intrusive evil. But just drive down our city streets and hi-ways and there they are.People driving with no apparent regard for the safty of any one else using the road.Go into the bars and bistros and other public places or private homes for that matter and see for youself the irrational anger that can erupt from the most meaningless discussions and circumstances. And when the police arrive, what would you have them do?

I believe Tasers should be used. Two reasons: 1.) It gets the job done without use of extreme force. (extreme being shot by a gun) 2.) It's pretty funny seeing someone tasered on tape!
