Now that the Home Builders Association has made its recommendations, do you think builders will make changes without stiffer state laws?

I doubt it. Let?s face it, it's not just the builders, does everyone forget that the building inspectors are in bed with the builders. I watched four homes being built on my street this past summer and the results were sickening. But the inspectors passed them. So it's bigger then a bread box and honesty, integrity and business ethics does not enter into the equation.

Only if forced to by law, and by that time thier "lobbyists" will have it watered down so much that it wont make a difference. lets be honest, when you sign a contract with a home builder its ALWAYS in the builders favor, and they are in the business to make money, using the cheapest materials, and the cheapest labor to make them (and thier wealthy shareholders) the most money. look at the new homes going up now, cheap building blocks, and If you have a second floor its compressed wood !!

whatever happened to good old bricks and mortar....

It would be nice to believe that changes will be made without legislation. It may happen but it will not be universal. Legislation or code changes are a must.

The second question is what happens to the homes that were built before this that sustained damage? Builders are ready to take to the courts to deny responsibility as can be seen with Mercedes here in Melbourne.

Even if damage was modest, as in my case, and repaired by me, the potential for more future damage as the home gets older is a major concern.
