ONLY RESPONSES THAT INCLUDE A FIRST NAME, LAST NAME AND CITY ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE USED IN WESH NEWSCHANNEL 2 NEWSCASTS.
In the wake of another deadly dog attack on a child, should certain dog breeds be banned from communities?

IT'S NOT A MATTER OF CERTAIN BREEDS THAT ARE DANGEROUS, IT'S A MATTER OF CERTAIN OWNERS THAT ARE DANGEROUS. THERE ARE CERTIAN OWNERS THAT HAVE BREEDS I.E. PIT BULL, ROTWIELLER, SHARPE, ECT.. THAT ARE TRAINED FROM BIRTH FOR ONE THING, AGRESSION. MAINLY THESE PEOPLE ARE INTO CERTIAN THINGS, DOG FIGHTING, OR GUARDING THIER DRUG HOUSE(S). I HAVE PERSONALLY OWNED SOME OF THE MOST "AGRESSIVE" AND "MOST LIKELY TO BITE" DOGS. THE DOGS THAT I HAVE HAD WERE MORE LIKELY TO HURT YOU BY LICKING YOU TO DEATH RATHER THAN BITE YOU. THEY DID NOT KNOW A STRANGER, UNLESS I WAS NOT HOME OR IF YOU TRIED TO INVADE MY PROPERTY. WITH THAT BEING THE CASE, THE DOG WAS ONLY DOING WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO, GUARD IT'S PROPERTY. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT A DOG BEHAVES STRICTLY IN THE MANNER IN WHICH IT WAS RAISED. NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS.

Absolutely. Pitbulls, dobermans, etc are extremely dangerous. Owners don't want to be responsible (i.e. face the death penalty if someone is murdered by their dog) so such dangerous dogs should be outlawed.

What about the pomerainian that killed a 6 month old baby as it slept on the parents bed. They left to answer the door only to have the 6ld animal kill the baby. This happened about a year ago, but do you hear about it on the 10 o'clock news, of course not. What if it was a pit bull, you bet your skippy!

I do not believe that banning specific dog breeds will stop dog problems. I believe that irresponsible ownership is behind many dog attacks. Dog ownership by some people is strictly a macho thing with little care, training or supervision being done fot the animal. Carelessness with such dogs has accounted for many problems. All dogs need supervision and confinement in today's society.
Although pit bull mixes and Rottweilers have recently been the most likely to kill and seriously maim, fatal attacks since 1975 have been attributed to dogs from at least 30 breeds. This includes the October 2000 death of a 6-week-old baby, which was killed by her family's Pomeranian dog. The average weight of a Pomeranian is about 4 pounds, and they are not thought of as a dangerous breed.
The dog most often is an unneutered male. Early neutering and spaying would prevent many incidences.
I would not want to see banning of a specific breed of dog but rather more stringent enforcement of the dog laws, especially concerning dogs running at large.
As a dog owner I would never leave a child unattended with a dog and when my children were younger the dog was always kept separately from the unsupervised children..just in case. After all they are dogs and all dogs have a chase instinct and a protective instinct toward their family..
I feel that dog ownership should be taken very seriously and that irresponsible ownership needs to be legally managed by the county or city involved.

Just like some people shouldn't have children, some people also should not have dogs. I have a German Shep. who wouldn't harm a fly that I have raised since he was 12 weeks old. I also have a tempermental, unpredictable Golden Retriever who I rescued when she was about 6 yo who was neglected and abused. If breeds are the problem shouldn't it be the other way around. For one thing a child should NEVER be left alone with an animal no matter how well trained, they are animals they don't think like humans although some people think they do. It is absolutely on the dog owners shoulders on how a dog acts, if the dog is left in the back yard and not socialized then the outcome when in contact with a child, person or another animal will more than likely be an aggressive one. Puppy mills and breeders are also to blame for cross breeding (not all, there are very reputable breeders)which can affect a dogs behavior. Mostly it comes down to the owner though, how about starting to put more punishment on the owners and not just euthanizing the animal as the solution. After all humans were the ones that decided to domesticate wild animals~ Anouska Moses, Sanford

NO!! I have two dogs both of them literally just about knock me down to get to a kid to kiss them. They love kids so much! One is a bulldog mixed with chow and one is a full blooded pitbull. My pitbull has never bit at a kid ever in his life on the other hand my other dog has and not because he is mean or because I don't love him enough or because I taught him to be that way. Its because the kid that was calling himself to be playing with him was pulling his hair and jumping on his gonads now you tell me what else that dog was suppose to do after he had tried to get away from him several times and with me getting onto the kid to make him stop! They can't talk and they can only run so far. And even after all that my dog still loves the kid. My dog doesn't stay around him for a long period of time but he still runs up to him to kiss him when he comes over! Now don't get me wrong no dog should ever bite or snap at a kid BUT you should look at why they snapped at them or bit them!!
I had a dog once that I never had a problem with except with this one family. He always tried to catch them. Do you know why?? because after I convinced them that I was not going to be home one day and stayed inside watching out my window everytime he barked finding out and having to video tape them tormenting my dog through his fenced in yard. So why do you think he didn't like them?? What would you do if you were locked in a yard and someone was tormenting you??
DOGS are like humans they are going to go crazy at some point and time. What makes people just snap and start killing people?? Some dogs and owners don't know are inbred. Dogs can get heartworms and go crazy. I think it has alot to do with how they are raised.
Do you know how hard it has to be on a dog that has to be locked in a yard so that they don't get run over or get lost and there is a neighbors dog running up and down your fence barking at them and they can't even do anything about it?? People should respect others who are trying to keep there dogs in there yard by keeping there dogs in there yard.
Oh and people should not fight there dogs no matter what kind it is! I couldn't see myself making my pitbull go fight when he could go get help if I ever needed him and were dying. Or when he can give me just as much love as I could ever love another human.
Chickens (COCKS) on the other hand don't even have to be taught to fight they will kill off each other on there own.
I don't see us asking humans if we should not have certain breeds of humans who snap and go crazy and kill people. Or when another human bites off another human body part!! People need to get a grip on reality!!!!!!!!!!

Dogs are like children. They learn what they are taught. Saying some dog breeds should be banned is as ridiculous as saying some races should be banned. Why don't we stop putting blame on everything other then where the blame needs to be. The way I see it... You are responsible for everything your children do until they are 18, if you adopt a dog it should be the same. If a dog is unconrolable then its the owners responsability to take care of the situation before someone gets hurt or they should suffer the consiquences of the dogs actions.

Bad dogs is like bad parents. Put the right penalty on the over all result then you will have a chance to correct it. People make bad dogs and people make bad parents.
End of story.

Its not the dogs that should be at falt its the owner. If yoiu tran your dog to be mean it will. But if yoiu want you dog to be loveing and kind they all can be.No one type of Dog is bad only the people that train them.
