A 70-year-old Omaha woman has obtained a protection order against two of her neighbors. She says they've been harassing her since she started trapping stray cats.
What do you think? Who is right -- the cat trapper, or the neighbors?

For those of you who are opposed to reducing the cat population by safely trapping/spaying/returning cats to their original environments please visit www.alleycat.org to get informed.
This is the best way to reduce the cat overpopulation while at the same time helping these ferals and strays. it works-I have done this TNR program for over 10 years. Statistics show this is the best method over trapping and killing.

I think the point of the mater is no matter what kind of pet you have the owner needs to take responsiblity of their pets and abide by the laws set by the city or town they live in. The reason they made these law is to protect the health and safty of the people that live in these cities and towns.
This is to the two people that said to just leave the cats alone. Cats are domesticated animals and there fore will always stay in areas that have people, because of the readly available places for them to live on someones property or a temporary place for them to stay to rest and eat, as it was on my property were they left dead animal in a certain area of the property where my childeren play, which is the health part of the laws goverving pets in the city! Now saying that, What about the poo? aparently it doesn't seem to bother you. It bothers me because you track that stuff in the house and if you have carpeting that gets in the carpeting and you know what? kids roll around on the carpet, hey there's that health concern again. Sure cat poo is not that big, but what about a dog? You everlook in the toilet? so would you let a dog poo in your yard? I bet you wouldn't want a stray dog in your yard. I tend to shoo them off. You can't say a dog is not the same thing, it's the same problem. Ever seen a wild animal poo in your yard besides birds? I haven't unless you live out in the country. As you can tell the problem is in the city. So again I say DON'T "LET THEM BE" or "LEAVE THEM ALONE". We just need to take care of the problem humanely, and if it's a neighbors bet tolk to the neighbor.

If you own a cat and it goes outside, it needs to have a collar. But if you catch a cat with a collar LET IT GO! My cat was outside, with a collar, and someone turned him into the Humane Society and they wanted me to pay $136 to get him back out--that's what's outrageous! If there are strays, they need to be trapped and turned over--this is a good service.

Some of these comments are coming from people that have NO IDEA of what they are talking about. That is the reason this is such a problem.
Ignorance is NOT an excuse to this problem. I think some of you need to do some research on this and then voice an educated opinion on this subject!!
I have been trapping stray and feral cats for over 2 years now. Some out there have done it longer than I. I have learned a lot.
Please educate yourself on this subject. I don't think the moderator of this list would allow my post if I tried to educate you myself.
Have a nice day. Anita

I trap cats in my North TAC neighborhood after cats would jump on my childrens picnic table and chase them away from an earned Burger King meal. Of the 22 cats we have cought, some have no ears, missing legs, tails, chunks of fur missing and sores with pus and drainage. Some of the cats were rabid. We now have rabbits, squirls, birds, snakes, and other natural wild animals in our yard. None of them jump at my childrens food. Thanks

Raccoons? Ok, a bit off topic, but I will bite. Stray cats more likely than not turn into a feral colony of cats. Remember, on un spayed female can have 10-15 kittens and if not taken care of, all the females in that litter have kittens...you get the picture. A feral cat colony can easily become a huge risk to a neighborhood. A raccoon generally travels alone, maybe with a buddy and only has one or two babies. Raccoons are a nusiance, but very rarely multipy at a fast rate and bring disease, smell, distruction to a neighborhood. A feral cat colony, which a single stray cat can turn into very quickly is 1,000 times worse than a raccoon dumping over garbage cans or sleeping under your house.

If anyone is right here, I feel it is the cat trapper. She is humanely trapping the cats and having them removed from her property.
If what she is doing leads to the cat being put to sleep, at least it will be done humanely. They won't be suffering a painful death whether it is by getting hit by a car, starving, attacked by a dog, or dying from disease. I have worked at a humane society and have seen the tragedies that befall stray/feral cats and dogs. Yes I felt awful about putting an animal to sleep but I knew it was better than seeing them suffer on the streets. As someone previously mentioned, there are other groups besides the humane society that can try to help these cats.
Why are the neighbors so upset? Is it because they own cats that are allowed to run outside and use anybody's yard as a litter box? If they are and they are so concerned their cat may get trapped, they should become responsible pet owners and keep their cats inside.
To Brenda9 ? You said, "There are stray cats everywhere. Just let them be? Let them be?stupid lady..maybe she needs to go to the pound and see how it feels?." Have you ever been to a pound and seen how many homeless animals they are? Obviously not if you think the stray cats should just be allowed to run loose. Duh! That's the reason there are so many!!! Somebody trying to control the pet population is not 'stupid' they are trying to be responsible. If you want to poke names at people, maybe you should try looking at yourself!
We could live in a state like South Dakota and Minnesota where it is legal to shoot feral cats. As many of you may know, Wisconsin is considering passing a law that would allow licensed hunters to kill free-roaming cats, including any domestic cat that isn't under the owner's direct control or any cat without a collar. How would the neighbors feel then?

I think the Trap lady did the right thing. While I was deployed to Iraq my wife had to do the same thing because a ferral cat and some other animal had been hang around in a small overhang under our house and leaving dead birds, and some small animals and parts rabbits. This has actually been going on for a couple years and could not figure out where the dead animals were coming from and how they got there. With the recent scares with disieses in dead animals we did not want to have the dead animals on our property especially where our children play. In the end my wife caught 2 cats and was set to catch another but after a week there was nothing going into the cage, and we blocked off the overhang so nothing could get into it. So in the end you can't let them be when health and safety becomes a concern also.
