NewsChannel5's Pill Patrol investigates generic medications costing the drugstore chains only pennies, but are costing you up to 1,000 percent more.
We want to know where you find the best deals on prescriptions.

I don't fault the pharmacies, they are only a "middle man" and are in business to make a profit. The companies who produce these drugs and charge whatever-they-please for them (always under the excuse of "financing research" are the evil element here. Now that they have found a true friend in Jesus, eh Dubya, they have secured unlimited profits for themselves, while being blood guilty of countless human beings who must suffer and even die needlessly to support the drug cartel's insatiable gree. How do those CEOs manage to sleep at night? Pills?

Various prescription drugs are MUCH CHEAPER in Germany. While vacationing there, I got a FREE eye exam for contact lenses AND glasses(which costs $85.00 or more in the US), and the eye glasses & contact lenses were slightly less costly as well. Have I committed a Federal Offencse? I know W wants us to "by American" at higher cost.
I would favor buying medications from ANYWHERE outside of this corrupt country, where the pharma industry monopolizes health care and "manages" cost. The greed of those in charge will eventually drive the American People into a Depression not seen since the 1930s. They should be ashamed.

I find the best deals always at Marc's. I lost my insurance several months ago, and they have had the best prices so far. I'm interested in finding out how to buy prescriptions in Canada. Looking for the best deals on Nexium, Lipitor.

I'm not sure where you are, but there is also a costco in Mayfield Heights behind Best Buy.
I called Sam's Club for my husband's fluoxotiene and a 30 day supply of 20mg pills was only $7.48 total. CVS & RIteAid & Walgreens varied between 20 and 80 dollars. This is the generic form of Prozac. For us, although we were already members, this more than justified the $35 annual membership fee!

I made some calls for my mother who takes Fosomax -- here are the prices I got over the phone for a package of 4 pills, 70 mg -- Rite-Aid was $89.99, Buehler's was $78.18, Drug Mart was $61.37, and Marc's was $60.11. I am trying to get a price from Costco, but there are only 2 stores in Ohio and both are in the Cincinnati area.

Many prescription medicines have over-the-counter equivalents that often cost less than half of the prescription brand. When opting for the "house brand", you can take another 20-40% off the price.
I recently purchased a tiny bottle of prescription nose spray for $70.00 (with a $20.00 co-payment). Later I purchased the identical product for less than $9.00. The difference? The effectiveness was the same, the only difference was the incredible mark-up for the "prescription" brand.

Not sure why Costco was included in the study - it's so new to the area - instead of Sam's Club. My husband researches the meds he takes for high BP, cholesterol, etc. and finds that Sam's generally has the best prices locally. On his most expensive prescription, he gets the best price through AARP's mail order pharmacy.
Hope Channel 5 will continue to pursue pricing comparisons frequently - it is a great service to the community.

I usually find the best deals at Marc's although the service is always slow and not that friendly. No COstcos near me. Canada is not a good deal on my meds, and controlled substances are ineligible for Canadian service. Get rated at Metro HOspital's business office - then you qualify for steep prescription discounts, but again have to tolerate welfare-like speed and service. RXOhio also has alot of company sponsored Rx help, from the drug companies. Income restrictions apply, but you can get a $198 Advair 500/50 strength diskus inhaler for asthma for $5! At Metro, rate 6 (the lowest) it is $48. The Free Clinic is also an option.
Do, or do not - there is no "try". Yoda

To comment on the CVS pricing, I have found that if you use cvs web site to get price quotes, they are much higher then actual cost when you get them filled.
Additionally, if the price fluctuates from the Mfg/Distributor to CVS, your cost will also luctuates, UNLESS, you have insurance and set co-pay amt. Unfortunately, I do not have insurance and do not feel this is fair.

When my dog needed a prescription I telephoned almost every drug store in the area finding Costco and Sams the least expensive. The prescription called for 100 tablets. The price at Drug Mart, Medic, and Marcs all exceeded $100.00. Walgrens quoted $85. Costco quoted $65.00 and Sams $63.00. I opted for Costco since it was closer to home and the $2.00 difference would be spent on gasoline going to Sams.
