After a decade of silence, Art Modell finally wants to speak to the people of Cleveland.
He says he was told to take the Browns and leave the North Coast.
Watch NewsChannel5's exclusive reports and tell us what you think about Modell and what he had to say to the people of Cleveland.

I don't believe Art Modell. He ripped the Browns from Cleveland and left us fans without a team until 1999. Why should I believe him? Unless he means he was told by a Baltimore politician to leave Cleveland. Perhaps the new team in LA could be from Baltimore...

First of all, me being an out of towner, I live in West Central Ohio, I have not had the gut wrenching displeasure of watching the Modell interview on TV. I have read portions of it however. So I ask this question. fArt Modell SOLD the team once he got settled in Baltimoron. WHY DIDN"T HE SELL THE TEAM WHEN HE WAS STILL IN CLEVELAND???!!! He could have made the same deal with Al Lerner, that he made with Stephen Biscotti. The result would have still been the same. Art Modell is nothing more than a bald faced liar and the lowest form of life on planet earth. That puts him lower than muslim terrorists and thats pretty bad. So Art....you will NEVER be forgiven!

Dear Channel 5,
Is it just me or did it seem like Gib Shamley was Model's publicist? Ok, I believe in forgive and forget, but I also believe in people being held accountable for their actions. There was more that Model could have done before his knee-jerk stance, "New Stadium or Baltimore". He could have tried to get the public behind him, or at least stated his case to Cleveland. The only reason for Model's new book and his recent confessions is he wants to be let into the Football Hall of Fame. I understand that not only is football a game, but a business. But how can Gib Shamley go and say that this team, the Cleveland Browns, wasn't our team? I'm sorry Gib, but I can't choke down this Model propaganda.
Sincerely, Chris

Forgiveness, well of course I forgive you Art! Seriously, I?m a Christian. However, you still will have to deal with the consequences of your actions. Art and loyal should never be in the same sentence. Let?s talk reality! Like any other business in our society the community that supported his product for the near 40 years of his ownership meant nothing to him when it came to him making his final decision. He could have sold the team so that he wouldn?t go bankrupt and would not have cheated the city out of 3 years and the building blocks of a championship team. Now almost 10 years later, we are still suffering from the aftermath. I know some will say that he had the right to move and keep his business and that he proved it by winning a championship after his move. Well, he had the right to be a good caretaker or steward while he was here in Cleveland. The argument for Art Modell being a Hall Of Fame candidate is do to his contribution as an owner to the league. Well he was also a failure as a businessman when it concerns keeping Cleveland Browns profitable which led to the move and the big black mark on his hall of fame resume. He also failed as a politician for he didn?t do a great job informing the public what was going down between him and the major people within the state, city, and local governments. Ultimately, Art made several bad decisions regardless of the circumstances. He had the ball in his hands and he decided to leave. What makes a man great! It takes courage, convection, loyalty, honor, and all that good stuff which Modell lacks. It was easy to leave because he knew on the other side of the fence it was a green with money. It would have been courageous and hard to stay for he would have to fight or stand up for what was right! Maybe he will get to be in the Hall Of Fame for that?s the ONLY reason why he?s sharing this information with us. Well if he does get into Canton he?ll have to scratch and fight for it and that will be more that what he did for us and this city 10 years ago. Funny how the media in this town supporting this guy and giving him air time, he sure didn?t seek the fans or the public out when he was going through all these problems 10 years ago. All this re-writing of history won?t change the fact that he moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. Oh, the hardest thing is for people to forgive themselves which is kind of hard to do if they can?t admit they were wrong. Lastly, if he doesn?t feel he did anything wrong then why are the fans being asked to forgive him? Something to ponder?..

Dosent anyone see that the true person to point the finger at is former Mayor Mike White. He made empty promises and kept Modell on the hook until the bottom of the fourth quarter. All Modell did was toss a hail mary with the team and there wasnt anyone from the city to catch it.

I can't believe Ted Henry didn't push the fact that Modell could have and SHOULD have sold the team. If he put it up for sale, there would have been people lined up around the block to buy it and keep the team here. We all know the Browns made money (that Modell couldn't manage it is his fault - ahem, Andre Rison - the Cleveland Browns have always been profitable).
But I digress...... we still, in the end, got the sweetest part of the deal - got rid of Modell and kept football in Cleveland.

It's time to get on with our lives. Was Art Modell a lousy businessman? Sure looks like it, but that is not a crime. He, or any other sports team owner, has no moral or legal obligation to keep his team in a town that takes him for granted and won't do anything to help him succeed. It is sad and unfortunate that things turned out the way they did, but those who want to crucify Mr. Modell should ask themselves this question: "What would I do if I received an offer from another city to move my failing business there in return for huge monetary gains?" I think if you're being honest, your answer is "When do you want me there?"
Don't put the entire blame on Modell. The arrogance and attitude of entitlement at City Hall contributed more than you think. What did former Mayor White do to keep the Browns here before it all came to a head?
Enough, already.

To all of those that are stating football is a business and that he had a right to move his business, you are absolutely correct. That's not the question, the question is should we welcome him back. We are upset that he moved something that we loved, not to worry because due to some hard fought battles, we got our team back. However, ask any steel worker in Lorain if they are happy with US Steel when they laid off 6,000 workers and moved business to other mills. Ask Ford workers in Lorain, some approximately 2,000, when they quit making the Cougar/T-Bird and were forced to move if they wanted to stay with Ford. Ask them if they are really happy with their repective companies and I think you would find that the answer is no. I don't think any of us would be happy with the person who had to make that ultimate decision to move the "business" as it affects our livelihood. Modell got what he wanted, millions of dollars to move the team. It is irrelevent who was telling him to leave, nobody held a gun to his head and said move it or else. He had no loyalty to the people who made him a millionaire.
