After a Target 32 investigation first uncovered the shooting of dogs at a Henry County dog pound seven years ago, a recent investigation showed that the practice is still going on. What are your thoughts on this legal, but controversial issue?

After watching your news, "Friday The 13th" should be rated G. You will do anything for ratings. I am just sorry it was not your kids pet(s). Your ratings are changed; my family wants to go back to watching WAVE. In the past, they have had a deceit program. They do not have to show gory scenes over and over to get the point across. I agree with changing channel, as far as I"m concerned it will be full time.

I hope that each of you that has written in will read what I have to say. First, I have known Ted Chism for several years and I cant say enough about what a wonderful person he is. I realize that each of you may not like the way animals are put down, and to that I say "change the laws for the state". But I ask you to please not attack Ted. Ted had taken classes to put the animals to sleep by lethal injection. He paid for this with his own money and let the county know that he had done this. But, he was not allowed to purchase the drug needed for this process (being a private citizen) and told the county that they would have to purchase it. They flat refused, saying that it would cost too much and the bullet evidently was cheaper. For those of you that think that Ted is a cruel person, well I would beg to differ with you!!! This man and his wife were there for me when I was going through a very tuff time in my life. Always asking what they could do to help and doing it. Ted brought me food when my son and I didnt know where our next meal would come from. He repeatedly told me to let him know if I needed anything and he would do anything in his power to do it. Some have said that if he would "abuse" animals this way he would beat his family. I am here to say that he absolutely doesnt. If you are wondering how I know this, I am part of his family now. One last thing I would like to say is this...think about what you are saying about this man, he has children who are hearing this. His children love and adore him. They are not afraid of him in the least...but they are terrified of the people that have threatened his life!!!!! Ted was doing his job. He had tried to do his job more humanely but the county refused because of the almighty dollar was more important. There are always two sides to every story and this story is no exception. Please realize this and dont talk about someone on the basis of one thing you have seen but on the entire person.

This makes me sick. No wonder everyone in the country considers people in KY to be rednecks.

My name is Earle Bingley, I am the president of The Canadian Voice for Animals Foundation headquartered in West Vancouver, B.C. Canada. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information on this issue as we would like to post it on our website. This pound/animal shelter needs to be closed down and we are prepared to start a letter writing campaign to the Henry County Officials. If you check our website at www.canadianvoiceforanimals.org you will see that we have done this before. Last April we were responsible for closing down the Lodestar shelter in Mena Arkansas I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks to Chanmel 32 for exposing this terrible atrocity.

Kindest Regards, Earle Bingley

OK, first off, I want to say that I dont care much for the way the dogs were put down, but come on, who cares, these are dogs that were at the pound, they were strays, animals that were left and forgotten by their owners. So people don't like to see dogs shot, well how does this sound DONT LOOK! Jeez... remember you as an individual have the ability to turn the other way or turn off the channel, whatever. I dont agree, but I dont care, get rid of the strays as cheaply as possible, and if the cheapest way is a .22 calibre bullet, well so be it... sorry but that is just my feeling.

i live in louisiana,i saw this horrible video on the news,my first thought was this man should be homeless, then shot to be done with!these animals were killed because everyone in this county who didnt take care of their pets and they ended up at the pound or their pups did.everyone should be outraged that the mayor of this fine city told this dog pound keeper to shot these dogs ,he should be put in a cage paraded threw town then do to him what was done to these helpless dogs. i can not believe its been going on seven years with no one noticing?you people need to make sure this never happens again and these people put in jail!

Though I am well aware that all lost and abandoned animals are not able to be saved due to the extreme numbers of them, it is the absolute disgusting manner in which Henry County (and Kentucky in general) approves of "eliminating" these animals. Herding them to an area and shooting them with a handgun is about the most barbaric of animal treatment. Are these participants members of the Taliban??? And to hear that this activity has been done under the approval of the County Judge is even more dispicable. Then on top of that, to find out that the County didn't even have any animal adoption program and that the public never even had access to these poor animals is absolutely absurd! Perhaps this Judge and Mr. Chisholm should be treated in the manner in which those dogs have been treated. Watching the video of this incident just made me sick! Knowing that someone willingly approved and performed such activity and then is able to sleep at night is definitely beyond my comprehension.

I also want to share that over the past several months I was considering relocating and accepting a new job near Louisville, an area I have enjoyed visiting and vacationing many times in the past. After reading about this incident, I will no longer consider making such a move. You may see this as over-reaction, but I can't in good conscience live in or patronize a state where such behavior would ever be condoned. I want to live where animals and humans alike are treated with respect. I know that the state I currently live in, Missouri, has it's own set of problems, however at least they are considerate enough to not have a "death by shooting" program at the area dog pounds. This is definitely is a disgrace and a black-eye for Kentucky.

I truly hope that the citizens of Kentucky band together successfully to ensure that this behavior doesn't continue and will never be considered again. Implementing adoption programs and spay/neutering programs will go a long way to help control the unwanted pet population. And pet-owners need to also take responsibility for their actions and properly care for and train their pets so that they don't become "cast-offs".

Even though I live in another state, this type of treatment of companion animals effects all of us everywhere.

B. Arnold, St. Louis, Missouri
