This topic has become a real pain out in the East end. Every weekend it seems there are more of these trend-chasers out on the roads. It is VERY rare that you will see any of these folks obeying anything that resembles a law or a rule for cyclists. I constantly have to try to follow behind packs of riders who weave in and out of traffic, ride two or more abreast(even seen them 5 wide) and absolutely DO NOT stop for a stopsign or red light. What do the police do about this? Nothing. I have asked the local police in Prospect and Oldham county what is being done to take care of this situation and the response is that they are too busy to enforce the traffic laws...except if you are in a car and speed through Prospect. I make sure that I follow the rules, I guess that is too much for these hip, trendy cyclists. Can't wait for the newest fad to come along and occupy their time and get them off of the roads.

I think it is the bikers fault just as much as the motorist. Maybe if the bikers obeyed the rules of the road more; Motorist would be more considerate. Just in the last two days I have seen cyclist riding on the wrong side of the road(Shebyville & Kresge Way) while on my way to work. I see cyclist run red lights and stop signs in busy intersections. I would love to see more bike lanes created in our city. I would even consider riding my bike to and from work.

This pistol packin heartless woman in my view is totally out of control. You cannot end an argument by pulling out a gun and shooting someone and then after he is on the ground and no threat, (which he never was) her son gets out and taunts and kicks the man. Why is it this boy is not in jail, why with wittnesses telling what happened that she is not in jail. She never feared for her life or her son's cause she was bold enough to get out of her car, when she could have rolled up her window and you know new cars door's lock automatic, she could have turned into Thorton's, she could have run over his bike and then called police instead of pulling out her gun and shooting him over a stupid argument and then to do this in front of your child, what a mother. She was a big bad woman with her gun and she wanted a confrontation or she would have done any of the above. I keep hearing reporters bring up the shooting in the West End, this was nothing like what happened to that man, they came in with gun drawn and hit him in the head and said they were going to kill him, you need to report the way things are. I want you to ask Det Todd Hollis why her son is not in jail for kicking Mosier Jr. after his mother shot him. Also ask the Det. if you can end an argument by Law by shooting someone. She was not afraid or she would have never jumped out of her car. Ask the Det. about that. They should both be put in jail.

Wesley Mosier Jr was an accomplice in a Murder of Floyd Jorden in Sept 20, 1974. Which took place at the Morgan Township School in Corydon.

What does this tell you about his Character and what he is capable of?

Im sure that all cyclist are polite, obey the laws and all that, but, who were the roads built for in the beginning? Bikes, or cars? Not to mention these little scooters with the little flags on them! I have nothing against the cyclist, and dont actually care one way or the other, but how long have we had this laws that states that our roads are safe enough to have these bikes and scooters on them? Who was the moron that decided that riding a 10 pound bike or a 50 pound scooter on a main road was safe,....especially when we have so many idiots drivers on the roads today driving 3000-5000 lbs vehicles? It doesnt take a brain surgeon to figure out that bikes and scooters are no match for cars and trucks! Yeah, I know that cyclists and scooters have a "right" to ride on the roads now, but if its not safe, why do it? How many people have to die or get injured before you figure it out? You can complain all you want, but the facts are that you are no match for cars and trucks. Personally, I watch out for cyclists, but not everyone does!

I have been commuting the 10 and a half miles (one way) to work for three weeks now and have not had to put gas in my car for two weeks. I am an experienced rider but I have had a few people pull out in front of me, yell to get off the road, and cuss me out only to pull up at the same red light they were in a hurry to get to. I use hand signals and watch out for any driver that is waiting to pull out on the road that I am traveling on just because I know that some (not all) motorist want to belittle me and try to prove a point. All cyclist should obey the same traiffic laws as the motorist because it will only make it safer for all of us. As a community we need to all look out for one another and share the road. And please give us the three feet we require because the good riders ride as far over to the right as we can without riding in the ditch.

The Message seems to be clear. Neither side is perfect. It would be nice to have wider roads and polite drivers. But that is not going to happen soon. I would like to see bike lanes along major roads to increase safety. I would like to have drivers behave like it was their child or spouse on that bike. I feel that more effort should have been made to find out who was involved in the accidents. I feel that the lack of information will do more damage to the reputations on both sides. Were the cyclist seasoned and trained riders? Were the vehicles too large for the road? Were the drivers young? Much more needs to be reported before fingers can pointed.

Why are so many bicyclists in denial that 66% of accidents were reported to be the fault of the bicyclist?

The biggest problem I see on the road is vehicles do not use turning/lane change indicators. Do the police even ticket for this violation anymore? Yet, you point out the cyclist in Monday nights class 'rarely' used a hand signal... This is a class of 'new' riders trying to educate themselves. Yet you have people who've been driving for years that appear to find it an inconvenience to let others know what the heck they're getting ready to do with a 4,000 ? 8,000 pound vehicle/weapon. I see errors by both vehicles and cyclists, and I?m sure I?ve made a few, as I?m a new ?rider?. Bottom line is people need to be educated and face it, with gas prices at 3.09 a gallon motorists who said they have no plans of changing their driving habits need to realize that some people want to change their habits ? and we?re going to be on the road too!

Until bicyclists learn that stop signs and stop lights are meant for them too, they should not be allowed on the streets. I am a bike rider and am wary of cars coming upon me and turning in front of me. But I am also a car-driver, and when bikes weave in and out of lanes to make it through the intersection, against the light, I lose any compassion I have for them.

My other real gripe has to do with the center line painted down the middle of the Scenic Route through Cherokee Park. Many bikers feel the need to ride as close to it as possible. My understanding that bikers can ride in either lane - at least that is how the streets are marked - but to ride 3" to the left of that line is inviting and creating danger.

Has anyone ever seen a police officer pull over a bike for "disregarding a control device?" If bikers want to use the roads, they need to follow some basic rules. Stop at stop signs and lights. Use hand signals. Share the road with others.
