Does Louisville need a new arena? Where should it go? This debate is picking up steam between local leaders and state lawmakers. What are your thoughts?

We've been told for years that college athletic programs make money. If this is so, the program should have no trouble getting a loan for a new arena. Then they could do like the rest of us and make the payments before buying cars for or entertaining parents of prospective recruits and raising salaries. I believe we would see a sudden emergence of more economical arena options if those running the athletic program knew the money would come from their funds.

What all of you naysayers are missing is this:

There is NO big pot of money out there with 300 million in it.. given that, this is NOT money that can be spent on education or highways or child welfare or anything.... The money that was approved comes from bonds issued by the state to essentially fundraise the money -- yes from the taxpayers, but only voluntarily.... and the tax return from events in the arena will far exceed the cost... The state is only guaranteeing the bonds

Do you know why Jimmy Buffett doesn't come to Louisville? Springsteen? Rolling Stones? Pick your name band that hasn't been here in 20 years-- It's primarily because there are better venues in Indianapolis, Cincinatti and Nashville. Let's thing quality of life folks... you have to spend some money to make some money.

If you build it, they will come.

To arena or not arena, is that the question? As a Kentuckiana resident and UofL fan, it is time to make the most of the local sports teams, and make Louisville a better than average city. UofL's B-ball is now back in the national spotlight, and the arena is a must to keep us in the elite programs this side of the Rockies. Helping the downtown vista and bring the Folks Back To Town is a futuristic cause, and one worth achieving. If we look around us, and learn from Indy and its city fathers and tea-readers of the future, the only thing to hold The Ville back is ourself. Build it, they will come; top athletes, out-of-towners, the Burbs return, and the potential for sponsored events and vendors.

I am thrilled to hear that Dr. Ramsey and the governor have finally agreed on the arena. This arena will mean so much to the increasing vibrancy of downtown Louisville. I moved to Nashville three years ago and it is impressive to see the changes to Louisville since I've been gone. If you don't think an arena is worth it, just take a drive down to Nashville and see what's happening around the arena here. We have the NHL Predators playing here as well as many other events that brings streams of people downtown. The same will happen there with UofL and the many other events the arena will host. Cities with downtown arenas attract people which attracts more business.

Way to go Louisville! All of the postive changes there make me proud to tell people that Louisville is my home.

NO LOU; KY does not have the population to support a arena; less than seven hundred thousand; most city's that do have arena's have a population of well over a million people and they have a hard time; with ticket's costing a hundred buck's; ten dollar's a hotdog; even higher for soda's and beer i don't see a lot of people supporting it; since lou is the fifth highest tax place in the nation; and the people having to pay a third of it; you will only make the taxes higher; and end up losing a lot of your people.

Maybe they can build the new arena next to the professional basketball arena they planned to build in Louisville.

A new arena downtown is a great idea. But since it is being paid for with public money and not all of it is coming from Jefferson County the build it where it will cost taxpayers the least. If I am cheap then so be it. A 114 million will help educate students in something besides the pick and roll and no one yet has explained just how 2 blocks difference will help recruiting ball players. Old Jerry slipping his floodwall that should have been built before the great lawn through on this nice try Jerry. You know the two gentlemen who has brought about this second look at location both have made fortunes not by building there business using the most expensive means but by building a quality business with wise use of funds. To blow 114 millon for 2 or 3 blocks to make a pretty sky line is a waste of public money. If UL doesn't want to use it on the water co property let them stay at freedom hall it their loss.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW WHAT A RIDE

No we do not. All this talk about an arena is based solely on the limited success that o f l had last yr in the NCAA's. Now we as taxpayers will have to foot the bill. Why do we have to? What about the citizens of this state who are NOT fans of this program? I am not and do not care for a new arena. We are an island amongst uk fans (and no I amnot a uk fan either)...Where were these people when u of l was actually successful? Remember that time, in the early 80's? Now if u of l won some titles during say a 3-4 yr stretch then I can see the justification. But until they do, it will be an empty arena with a do nothing team that just loses OR does not produce. So to ths new arena I say no. Not with my tax dollars....It would be a big waste and a big joke.
