What are your thoughts on the jury's decision to acquit McKenzie Mattingly of the murder charge he faced?

I would like to make a comment on this and I don't agree with shooting somebody in the back if you are white, black or hispanic. Everybody are human beings and we all are God's children. I don't agree the part where Michael was selling drugs but I think it could of been handled a differnt way because I think sometimes when you are a police officers sometimes they can get away with killing somebody. What about the black man that had his hands handcuffed behind his back and they shot and killed him. he was an old man. try and hand cuff yourself and see what you could of done. Well that's my point of view. I'm also white. Right is right and wrong is wrong and that's all I've got to say about it. I understand that the officers are out there to their jobs and some do end up getting hurt or some die from it. I feel sorry for the ones that do. But I'm just saying that I think that their are good officers out there and there are bad ones too. That's just my opinion.
Thank You, Paige

Somehow, I never could come to agree with what that former officer did. Shooting someone in the back numerous times, and the circumstances around the bust was questionable at best. However, listening to both sides, it seems that this young man was not innocent either. Both suffered a fate that resulted in both sides loosing.

I agree 100%. Yeah it's not good to have our young people leave us, but then again they shouldn't put themselved in that situation. Michael was doing something that he shouldn't have been doing. It's sad for his family that he is gone, but just like one of the other readers said: Where were all of these people who now all of a sudden when there is MONEY involved, where were they at before all of this happened. Why were they not helping him leave this stuff alone. Also, someone else said something about race- it has nothing to do with that and you know it. There have been white people killed, beat or whatever, but you never here all of this crap - it doesn't get blown out of proportion and we don't try to get money out of everything. Lastly, I just want to say again - white, black, hispanic, whatever - if they didn't do the things that they are doing, then they wouldn't be put in that situation or any other situation. If they could live normal lives like the good people do, then everything would be just fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very concerned citizen!!!!!!

I don't think our police officers are paid enough to have to go through this crap whenever they make a move. The kids pushing the drugs are killing a whole lot more people, but we're supposed to punish our police officers for getting them off the streets? I would certainly hope not. It's a pretty sad state when a policeman has to be afraid to do his job because of repercussions from the general public and/or his own colleagues. His training is pure hell to start with, then he's given weapons and told to protect and serve - we need to let them do that. Maybe then some of the crime would stop.
Thanks for the chance to voice an opinion. bja

I do not think that the witnesses testimony should be allowed. Where were they last year? Under a rock? So suddenly now they want to add their own version. Any intelligent person can see this for what it is, their motives are motivated by money.

What are you gonna do, A M Johnson, rewrite the entire justice system simply because you don't agree with the verdict? Mattingly was found not guilty by a jury. Either accept it or move yourself to another country with laws that suit you. Don't you people ever get tired of beating a dead horse? This was a "senseless murder". It truly became senseless when Michael Newby decided his path to glory was in the illeagal drug business. I support the LMPD. I do not allow myself to be involved in drug trade or do I participate in illeagal drug use. I wished for Michael Newby that he had made the same decisions. Michael might have been with his Mother instead of trying to explain to God why he chose the path he did!!! Where were all the people who are so concerned about Michael in death when he needed them the most on earth? They should have brought their "caring" thoughts and attention to Michael in life, instead of waiting until his death.
Sincerely, Judy

why do they continue to bring this up over and over again in the news, mattingly could not be tried for this again even if they wanted to because of double jeopardy, you cant be tried again for the same defense that you are acquitted of
hey, community, newby was involved in the quick buck world of drugs, he was not a hero or a "good boy"
Mattingly, good luck to you

<amjohnson> "This has NOTHING to do with RACE" Corruption is out of control in every part of our system, Greed,Self rightousness, no accountability check points, bad training, ect.-etc. do this for me and i'll do that for you, When will someone stand for thier beliefs with conviction, instead of compromising for penalties and caving on the least bit of opposition?

Someone mentioned Mattingly being the chosen one for a poster boy in Police Brutality. I agree with that. He's not allowed to shoot a criminal running away, but O'Neil can shoot a criminal handcuffed not running away. This reeks of dead brain cells from those in "charge."
Expect the UNexpected!
