We watched your last broadcast with tears in our eyes. You have been a mainstay in Lancaster for 40+ years and even though we were not here in Lancaster for your entire run, we always watched you when we were in town! You are a true professional! You will be greatly missed! It just won't be the same watching a newscast without you being involved. Best of luck to you in your retirement. If anyone deserves it..YOU DO!! Happy New Year! And best wishes on your new position...Retirement

Dick Hoxworth, Good luck on your retirement. My family and I will miss you greatly. I'll be 54 years old in January 2009, and can say that I grew up watching WGAL, starting with Mary Jane Landis and Percy's Place. I can still whistle the theme tune. Dick for all those years your face was the first face we saw in the morning. We get up in the morning between 0430 - 0500. It got to the point, instead of saying turn WGAL on, it became turn Dick Hoxworth on, see what he has to say this morning, and what Joe has to say about weather. Then at the Firehouse, at 1200, we said turn Dick and Susan on see whats going on. 1700 its Ron Martin, and proud to say a York man. I took a vacation day to go to the York Fair when we found out when Dick Hoxworth was going to be their. We talked a little and shook hands. Through the years you entered into our home and in a way became a family member. My wife and I love going to markets, and at times saw you and your wife at Lancaster's Central Market. Its good that we will be able to see you their from time to time. Dick, again good luck on retirement, and GOD BLESS you and your family. Your friends from across the river in York. Rose and Greg Moul

Thank - You Gregory E. Moul Sr.

I have only lived in Lancaster County for 28 years and have watched you ever since! You are a fixture in this area and you will be truly missed! You are a highly regarded journalist and I applaud all that you have done over the years. I grew up outside of Philadelphia on the Main Line and actually went to school with Gwen Owens and her twin brother. I moved to Illinois for one year from June 1972 to June 1973. We left the day Agnes started so I missed it. Still living in Malvern at the time, TMI happened on my birthday, March 28, 1979. You have been a staple to my morning routine since 1980 and I will miss you terribly. Thanks for the memories!

Sincerely,

Linda in Marietta

I would like to say that i will miss in the mornings. when i moved here in the 60's my mother would turn on the tv for the news and you would be there reporting the news and i remember you reporting all the school closing. Now that i have a family of my own and they grow up watching you and so did my grandchildren we would all like to say enjoy your retirement and we will miss you, and God bless you all

I would like to send my best wishes to you. My husband,Glenn, did some tree landscaping at your home a while back and was so thrilled at what a nice person you are. Everytime the news came on and you were sitting at the desk it was "I did his trees." Unfortunately Glenn passed away very unexpectedly in May at only 38. So I wish to pass his well wishes along also because if he was still here I know he would be saddened to see you go. Good luck in all your future ventures and may God continue to bless you.

I can remember watching the news and seeing Dick, but the one memory that I'll never forget was after joining the Navy in July 1989 and coming back to York county on leave from boot camp. I was on the train from Lancaster to Philadelphia on my way to Groton CT, I was wearing my dress blues uniform, as Dick got on the train he stopped where I was sitting. I knew who he was from seeing him on channel 8 news, he didn't know who I was, but he shook my hand and thanked me for serving our country. As I now get ready to retire in July 2009 after 20 years of service that has been filled with a lifetime of memories. I'll never forget the day I shook the hand of the GREAT Dick Hoxworth!!

Dick - To address this message to you by your first name is an indication of how close we the viewing public feel we are to you Mr. Hoxworth. We have come to take your news deliver and professionalism for granted and it saddens our hearts to see you retire. You have quietly become a huge part of our lives. May this next page in your life be as fulfilling for you as you have been for us. I wish you many blessing and good health for years to come. Enjoy it, you earned it!

Dear Mr. Hoxworth,

Congratulations on your retirement and best wishes in your future endeavors. I have been watching WGAL-Channel 8 since about 1953 when my parents bought our first black and white TV (and that was the only channel we could get). I have been watching you report the news during your entire career at WGAL and will greatly miss you. Your calming demeanor during the Agnes Flood of 1973 and Three Mile Island in 1979 gave much comfort to viewers in this area. You have always been very professional and a wonderful journalist, "reporting" the news and not "making" the news as so many today seem to want to do. I appreciate your many years in broadcasting and hope that you can enjoy your retirement as much as I am enjoying mine. As a retired rural letter carrier, I can appreciate not having to go out on those nasty winter days such as today and I know you will appreciate that as well. It's nice to be able to sit indoors and just watch it snow, rain or whatever. There really is a life after a career!!

I am 43 years old and grew up with you in our living room every day. With much excitement I listened as a youngster to hear your voice read off the school delays and cancellations. For many years my children watched your early morning broadcast as school information scrolled above your head.

This morning I watched the farewell tribute to you in my family room, with my favorite coffee in hand, while tears ran down my cheeks. What an honorable, trustworthy man. Thank you for being a role model for so many.

God's blessings to you and your family.

Best Regards, Angela Liddle
