Pennsylvania's budget was approved late, resulting in a one-day layoff of nearly 25,000 workers. We'd like to know what you think of this. Share your thoughts and feelings in this WGAL.com discussion.

All the legislators and judges should take a pay cut with a pay freeze preventing them from any and all future pay raises.

I think that the congress that can vote themselves raises ,that are more than some people make in a YEAR, should be held more accountable than a measly 100$ fine. Sure 100$ would hurt you and I but they spend that on one dinner (at our expence)! How many of you out there would still get a raise after a shabby performance like we have seen the past couple of years? They just raised the minimum wage a whopping $.60 an hour. I wonder what bills a minimum wage worker could pay with $100 a day? The (illegal) mushroom pickers in Chester county won't even work for that chump change. The government tries to make it sound like they are making a major break thru when they pass one piece of legislation. The only thing they pass quickly is money for themselves. Then we get to hear how they have to raise the taxes, only to find out there is a surplus they have stashed somewhere. I think that when they have a lousy track record (like only showing up a few days a year) they should recieve a pay reduction equal to their last raise. If thet does not motivate the lazy ones they should not be in office. The little guy doing the greasy, hot and neccesary jobs should be doing better than what we are left with!

It gets even worse. I heard a report that our illustrious governor has attached spending plans to the recently passed budget that were kept under the radar. There's spending slated that doesn't derive its dollars from the actual "budgeted" dollars.
Through bond issues, he plans to dump hundreds of millions of dollars into the "City of Brotherly Love". To pay off these bonds, there are schemes that include turning Route 80 into a toll road. It now appears that making Route 80 a toll road might not happen.
So now where will the money come from? Is there a chance we can put a halt to Fast Eddie's spending plans BEFORE he bankrupts the PA taxpayers so he can waste more money in that cesspool of a city?

Payroll very funny and true statement. So let me get this straight, we as citizens must divulge every bit of income and expenditure to pay our taxes, yet the govt gets a budget and wont divulge what they are planning to do with the money?? If I were to hedge bets I would CHIP is a big winner here, as well many other social programs that the working man pays for while the dregs and slugs who choose to not work or be here legally for get to use them. Social programs have been a way of life and a staple for the Liberal Democratic (not all dems) for some time now! I wonder when the true working people of this state and country will wake up and ask for legitimate change, not just window dressing? I for one would love to run for govt but without money and backers the common man cant. I believe we need a common back in office to ask questions and get thinghs done for the people who actually contribute to this state with taxes and votes....not just votes!!! I say everyone write a newsanchor congressman or something and demand to know where the state budget is going to pay>>>>>>since our tax dollars contribute heavily to it!!

I am all for all including Rendell to to have their pay stopped until a budget is approved. As to the layoffs once again the taxpayer is being shafted for a paid day off for our goverment workers. I want to be able to see where every penny is spent as I am tried of paying for Philly and Pittisburg. What about York and Lancaster? Stop sending our money to these money pits and give it back to the real tax payers not the welfare cities. They should learn to go to work and payh for themselves

Ideologically I do tend to think that Democrats are better in the WhiteHouse and Senate
Yes the liberal Dems in the Senate have shown their prowess with more than 15 resolutions on Iraq going down in flames. Have they successfully passed anything? Their poll numbers are impressive too, double digits BELOW Bush. It is something to strive for.
As for the budget, well if no budget is passed, then it keeps the government out of our wallet. Maybe we should permanently lay off Rendell and the non reform legislators.
Pro is the opposite of Con. For example, progress, and Congress.

I am not one for politics but it is kinda common sense here. Lets lay out the facts: They have an extermely high budget that they will not inform any one where the money is going. The budget has been late for the past FIVE years. Rendell has been in office for how long? .. 1 + 1 equals two here guys. We will have to deal with this over and over till Rendell is out of office unless something is done now. Fines are a good Idea but 100$ a day is petty cash to the lawmakers and politicans involved. No pay after July 1st is a really good idea. Earlier deadlines for the polictians and law makers might have to be formed to try and keep things in line. If they know that this happens every single year then why are they late every year.

To all those that answered yes in the survey, don't you think that the governor should be included or are we to give him free reign to keep raising our taxes.

I'd go with the fines...but only if the governor was included too. The problem this year was Rendell refusing to sign unless unrelated appropriations were passed...such as a Convention Center in Philly. This isn't politics...it's blackmail. Maybe the legislature should be able to over rule the governor as they can do with vetoes. I believe that would require a constitutional amendment though. My rep voted NO on the budget, and he did the right thing.
