In an 8 On Your Side investigation, News 8 has found some state lawmakers have spent millions of tax dollars on commercials over the past two years that critics say are being used to help them win elections. Public Service Announcements are commercials paid for with tax dollars that air on television and radio across the state. Usually the ads address various state programs. But almost always, the face and voice of a state lawmaker are prominent features. We'd like to know what you think of this.

sorry nospending: while I agree with you on the waste of taxpayer money for what should be the sole provience of private enterprise; i.e. the Convention Center and the ballpark. There, channel 8 is pretty much a lapdog when it comes to any investgative reporting. PSA's come off as free commercials for politco's, and many of channel 8's "news reports" comes off as PSA's.

Gov. sponsered and published "news" (aka propaganda) is quite common and is a primary means of beta state manipulation as well as whatever subliminals are implanted for absorbtion via the media induced alpha state. It is fake commercialization to SELL an image and most people buy into it but A LOT don't. The latter just chooses to keep their opinions to themselves for the most part.

Most politicians don't care about their constituents and are only concerned with keeping their skeletons in the closet as well as all the money they take in for the "favors" they do not to mention the free ride they get from the tax payers.

I always thought that PSA's were targeted for organizations that needed to get their message out. Since when do these politicians fall into that category? These men and women lie to us and cheat us every day and we should all be sick and tired of it. we elect these people hoping they wiil do some good for us. How wrong!! You couldn' get the 10 Commandments passed through Harrisburg if Moses was up there buying martini's!! Just raise our taxes and increase your salary. The citizens of PA will be happy to pay for it. NOT!!

Having worked in that arrogant setting and seeing all the abuse firsthand, I'm glad its finally getting out in the public, but its not just the PSA's... the legislators also have extensive video departments and staff that come out to the legislators districts to shoot unneccessary fluff pieces designed to get their faces out there. Factory tours, winery tours, meetings, etc.. You name it. Why doesn't someone get in there and find the money spent on the television studio in the Capitol and all the expensive equipment to go with it? They aren't getting outside production help to make these things, they have their own studio, staff, equipment, etc.. To excess.... Someone needs to expose that, its about time

Thanks to Ben Simmoneau for bring all these tax wasting issues to our attention. I would like all the lawmakers to know we see this and are taking notes for the next election. I can not believe they do not know how much these ads cost. I bet if it was their money, they would know. All levels of government is getting out of control, all the way down to the local level. Lancaster Downtown Converence Center to name one area. A lot of people getting rich there on tax payers money. It is time to take our government back from the career politicians.

Stop the spending

Jim

Thanks WGAL for bringing all of the wrong doings to the attention of PA residents. 1st it was the supposed gambling revenues to ease taxpayers real estate tax, then it was PHEAA's misuse of funds (which includes tax dollars). Then the legislation votes themselves a hefty raise in the middle of the night with the help of Fast Eddie. Then we find out that all of the tax shifts to further ease real estate tax burdens actually increases the burdens for most. Then we find out that state grants were awarded to spouses of public servants, one was for 1.5 Million Taxpayer Dollars to research the benefit of encouraging the planting of trees. And finally, and I'm sure not the last, spending taxpayer dollars to stick feathers in their own caps under the facade of public service ads. UNCLE!! We should run all politicians including all of the appointees out of PA and start from scratch. We really need a Constitutional Convention. I encourage everybody to call or write your representative(s) on a regular basis and voice your opinion.

What do these law makers do when they are not in session. The LESS TIME THEY ARE IN SESSION, THE LESS DAMAGE THEY CAN DO TO THE PEOPLE. My point is they seem to take the lazy mans, and womens, way to reach the people, and we have to pay for it.

What?!?!? Politco's manipulating the system for their own private gain?!?!? I'm shocked! Support voter mandated pay, pay raises, and benefit packages. Public SERVANTS...they work for us.
