Gov. Ed Rendell acknowledges that his state-police chauffeured car sometimes exceeds the speed limit. "Sometimes we adhere to the speed limit, sometimes we don't. On many of Pennsylvania's highways, if you adhered to the speed limit, you'd be a safety hazard," he said. "I've told my troopers I don't want them exceeding 80 unless they need to pass, unless there's some real exigent circumstance." We'd like to know what you think about this.

Another example of the law not applying to the elite.

The problem here is not that the governor's troopers were speeding as much as the fact that at first the governor denied knowing he/she was speeding!! The governor's detail (troopers who work for the governor) have sped long before Rendell was in office. But Rendell lied about it. As for those people who are complaining about the officers speeding, well let me tell you - I know a lot and speeding is the least of which taxpayers should be concerned.

Try this and see alot of wacko drivers. Drive the speed limit on any divided highway. You will be all by yourself for a while and in your rear view mirror you will see a pack of cars comming up behind you. They will all go by you while trying to outdrive each other. It really looks stupid these people in their minivans, suv's, and station wagons doing everything they can to outdrive each other. When there past, you you will have the raod to yourself again, until the next pack of cars catches up to you. So where is the governor in this pack of idiots?

I would love to see our Govenor even try to speed on Meadowview Road in Rapho/Mt.Joy township. That is a state maintained road. Every summer they "work" on it and make no improvements. He couldn't even do the speed limit on that road let alone go faster. I have shaken driver syndrome til I get off that road. Can't concentrate or think straight til I get home!

bethagaine....umm good luck with that.

I'll take speed over stupid any time. We insist on and keep buying vehicles with more horsepower, 6 speeds, performance suspension, turbos ....for what ?? An idiot in a Hyundai Accent driving irratically at 55 will kill more people than a good alert driver going 75 mph. It's the lack of skill that is dangerous.

So the next time I get pulled over for speeding, do I get to use the excuse that out Governor is allowed and I want equal protection under the law?

You must be kidding me. The Governor gives "his" permission for Troopers to speed? He IS really dumber than he looks. Since when is being Governor the equivalent of being "King?" Fast Eddie you don't have that authority - plain and simple. Just saying that kind of nutty stuff clearly indicates that you think that you are above the law.

Although I can certainly appreciate the dilemma of State Police Commissioner Miller, he needs to remember his oath of office to support, OBEY and defend the Constitution and Laws of our Commonwealth. Commissioner Miller it is your absolute DUTY to order your Troopers to NOT violate the traffic laws, even if the Governor gives his "permission" (which of course, we and you both know he doesn't have that authority).

This whole situation is an absolute disgrace for the Governor and the State Police. Where is the moral fiber to acknowledge that this speeding is illegal and that those engaged in it will be held accountable? In actuality, Fast Eddie is engaging in a criminal conspiracy to violate the laws of Pennsylvania, and his co-conspirators are State Troopers! This is a travesty. If this kind of stuff keeps up, then the Legislature ought to be whispering the dirty word "Impeachment" in Fast Eddie's ear.

And where are the District Attorneys and the Attorney General of Pennsylvania on this stuff? Doesn't Tom Corbett (Attorney General) have any intestinal fortitude to step up and tell Fast Eddie and his speeding Trooper chauffeurs that this stuff will NOT be tolerated. In fact, why doesn't the Attorney General put this matter before his Statewide Investigating Grand Jury? Subpoena the speeding Troopers and Fast Eddie to explain this stuff to the Grand Jury. Wouldn't it be just great to hear that the Governor took the 5th Amendment in front of the Grand Jury to avoid incriminating himself - WOW!

If Fast Eddie can ignore the speeding laws because he thinks he is "King of Pennsylvania" then the rest of us should be able to do likewise - either everybody obeys the laws, or nobody has to obey them!

The Truth, and Only The Truth, from the Dog!

Lancbouy says this is typical because your state is moving to the left. Oh please get real. When Howard Dean's State Trooper was ticketed in a small town in Vermont, Governor Dean not only paid the ticket but acknowledged and commended the officer for doing his job....and you know it doesn't get more left than Vermont and Howard Dean. This is about politicians and power, and this is only one small area where they abuse their power.
