In February, Hershey officials said they planned to cut 1,500 jobs, amounting to more than 11 percent of its workforce. They also said at that time that they would move some operations to Mexico. Since then, layoffs have been announced at three plants in Derry Township and one plant in Reading. Tell us what you think of this.

Oh how quick we forget. I guess it is out of our minds already about the numerous recalls from China... the poisoned dog food, automotive tires, the lead paint in toys. Even through all the recalls, China still does little for their quality control issues. We as Americans quietly sit back while the big companies slowly undermine the very fiber of Made in America value. We will not have to wait long till the next terrorist attack. It is already happening from with-in. The large American CEO?s, with their greed, will slowly kill the American people. So what will it be e-coli laced chocolate bars from Mexico? To buy a food product made in a country that is a vacationers worse nightmare with Montezuma?s revenge, are we crazy. I guess it is fare for me to say NO MORE HERSHEY PRODUCTS in my house.

Hello,I do not purchase hershey item since they deciced to move out of America. All this is what they want to bust the union and get slave labor to make candy in conditions we have no control of the quality of product. The rates are jumping off the ship. What an American thing to do.They and others are going for the slave labor prices and no control of the products they can fold and close the doors the damage is done. Thank You. GREED GREED GREED

I hope they do have bad performace. I for one will never buy Hershey products again! Let the Mexicians, Indians and Chinese buy there goods. We have to support the American workers or lose jobs to foreign countries.

As a former employee of Hershey, I am actually glad my job/plant got hacked when it did back in 2001. The constant worrying over whether I will have a job in the future must be nerve racking to the current employees. What bothers me is that the board puts up with this nonsense from the current management. It has been 6 years since the first cuts have been made and it seems like every year they cut a little more. When will it stop? You can't tell me that the company was that "fat", that they need to trim the "fat" every year. If anything that needs to be trimmed right now it is the current management team because they can't seem figure out what direction they are going.

GTO-5....a well written vent, unfortunately...I think we will see that the public is no more patriotic than Hershey Chocolate is. There are no major "candy holidays" coming up until maybe November....then we'll see how many are seriously boycotting. I'm betting there will only be 10 out of every 10,000 who will not buy Hershey candy or baking products.

When I was growing up in this area working for Hershey meant job security. This just shows us there is no job security in this country anymore. God help us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since Hershey is kissing off the US I will also kiss off Hershey! I have found that mexico makes an inferior product in some other products. So no more Hershey candy for me. What a shame! How could the CEO allow this?

Already some local Reading stores are taking Hershey Candy out of their machines. It is a small start but if more follow it will help them get the message.

Very well written GTO-5 .. Today's headlines "Hershey, the nation's largest candymaker, said it will earn less this year than it had originally forecast." Well duh... maybe the reason their earnings are less: We aren't buying their products anymore.
