Rep. John Perzel's televised comments defending the repealed pay raise have angered some. Here's what he said last week on WITF's Smart Talk: ""When I see that a tattoo artist in the city of Philadelphia makes more than a legislator, I think there's a problem ... I watch my members day in and day out -- I mean we have roughly 30-some members who can't apply for a credit card because their credit's so bad." What do you think of this comment. Hello,Mr Perzel's comments to make sense for his pay raise is crazy.Where are you ever going to get a part time do nothing job plus the perks the public have no idea.If he wan't more money then get another job like the rest of us do.Not this game he plays.please look at his record and see what laws he wrote and what he voted for.And you will see that his interest is not for the working tax paying people of Pa. Thank You.So please people get out and VOTE all the time and we can get these bad people out of office like Brightbill and the rest. The system will work But your help is needed. Thank You.

80K for a part time job, nearly unlimited perks like free gas and mileage money etc etc etc. On top of that you add a pension plan that can be rivaled by no common citizen of the state.
I personally thing they should make no more than the average salary of a full time worker in their district. Their benefits should be comparable and they should drive their own rear ends to work like everyone else does. Oh yeah, and lets not forget the fact that voters, through referendum, should decide if they get a pay raise.
Then, and only then, would you get politicians who care about the state and want to do what's right for the commonwealth and it's citizens.

Rodster: That theory really proves out in Washinton DC - we get a lot better politicians for the money - don'tcha think????? More money does NOT mean better politicians - only more abuse. The amount of the pay should not mandate the quality of the work. There are great menial workers and very self serving goverment workers - which ones deserve the raise?

I believe the reason we have such terrible politicians in PA is because we don't pay them enough. The best people I know for the job are independant business owners who built their companies from ground up. Unfortunatley, none of them would give up their $300,000 per year earnings to set out to be a politician only earning $80,000 (with no guarantees). Honestly, which person would you want to be a politician? the highschool drop out working at McDonalds or a successful business owner who built a multi-million dollar company. Now a days the only politician you get is the one who either has enough money they don't have to work or they see $80,000 as step up in income (neither one in touch with the middle class). let's raise the bar to $300,000 a year and see what quality politicians we get. Atleast one thing will be true - every election will be exciting!!

Perzel is another moron with no useful job skills. If he has "members" that are so inept with their own credit so as to not be elligible for a credit card....then why would I want to trust them with anything to do with the commonwealth's money ? The only way Farmers might possibly get a money windfall is thru the Farm Preservation Act...but .....they still need to buy insurance, plan for retirement, pay taxes and work 7 days a week. The problem with Perzel and his cronies are that they are clueless about the real world.
By the way....I know 3 Tattoo artists that would like to offer Mr Perzel some FREE tattoos...of their choice.

Gee, isn't Mr. Perzel the one who thinks Lancaster farmers are making $50,000, or some insane figure like that. Now he has tatoo artists who make more than legislators. Wow! Wish I was one of those. If legislators have bad credit, is it the fault of taxpayers. A lot of people have bad credit, but that isn't everyone else's fault. They just need to learn to manage their money better and live within their means. At least they aren't out there trying to scratch out a living on $5.15 an hour (oh, soon to be $6.30 an hour, musn't forget that big raise). These people are supporting a family of four on that income. Some go without medical, dental and vision care. Some go without clothing and automobiles. They don't eat steak and pork chops every week. The legislators don't know how good they have it. Where else can you have a job in a cushy office with more health care benefits than you can use and other perks too numerous to mention. They need to quit whining and pay attention to their work, and Mr. Perzel needs to have another job. When it's time for his re-election, I certainly hope he has that opportunity. Maybe he could become a farmer or a tatoo artist. They pay is better, but I'll bet the hours stink!

The arrogance of power. But I'm sure that moonie, cult-like republicans will continue to elect him, because after all...he's a republican.
Just like Gib Armstrong, Roy Baldwin, Robert Jubilerer, David Brightbill, Pete Zug, Pat Fleagle who were DEFEATED in the PRIMARY. Do you even read the news?

iF IT IS TRUE THAT THE AVERAGE PENNSYLVANIAN EARNED AN AVERAGE OF 38,000 A YEAR IN 2004 AND THAT PERZEL EARNS 109,000....WELL...MAYBE A PAYCUT IS IN ORDER! OR MAYBE WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TAXES AT ALL UNTIL WE REACH 100,000 A YEAR SINCE IT IS SO DIFFICULT FOR OUR POLITICIANS TO LIVE ON THEIR INCOME LEVELS THEY SHOULD CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND THE AVERAGE MAN'S STRUGGLE FOR SURE!

I think Mr. Perzel needs to wake up and smell the coffee, first of all government wasn't intended to be a fulltime job period, second of all at least that tatoo artist is earning his/her money, their not just sitting on their keyster passing bills etc. and collecting 6 figures or more per year for doing nothing really. Like the old saying to many chiefs not enough indians all capital hill workers are pathetic remember you earn thy bread by the sweat of thy brow, suprise!!
