To those that "hate gambling", especially in an historic place like Gettysburg. Please call or write your local Representative and tell them you don't like gambling and that you would like to see Gettysburg have no gambling what-so-ever. Explain to them that Bingo games and lottery tickets are gambling and tell them you would not like these things sold/participated in Gettysburg.

And yes, Bingo IS gambling. No matter how someone tries to spin it, you still have to spend money to have a CHANCE to win money. Same thing with slots.

I don't really care whether or not the parlor was accepted, I just hate hypocrites who vehemently oppose gambling and then stop by the store on the way home and buy 10 lottery tickets. Either your against gambling or your for gambling. Stop the fence sitting!

I am thankful that the state estopped gambling in or around Gettysburg. Gettysburg is a historic town, and, as I mentioned before, a casino in the area would defeat Gettysburg's purpose.

The denial was a huge mistake for the folks of Adams County. Gettysburg as it is known may not survive as known. Tax increase projected. The Battlefield is a lame excuse as I am a Navy Vet and a lifelong resident of Adams County. We will continue to take our money out of State. I think this was more of a political decision and I am not pleased by that thought. ( Backroom politics)??

I read some really sensable comments and really totally stupid comments so I will let you all decide what this is. 1. Why personally attack a man, Mr Le Vann, Who has already done so much for Gettysburg and Adams County? 2. If Gambling would offend the hallowed ground, what are all the junk stores in Gettysburg doing? 3. If Bingo is not gambling, what is it? You spend a $1.00 or so a card hoping you get 4 or 5 numbers in the proper order so you can win something??? 4. Is Lotto Gambling? How many stores in downtown Gettysburg sell Lottery tickets? 5. If the slot parlor was approved, how many non cassino advocates would pass up the tax relief money and pass it on to the homeless? 6. Oh Yea, who is taking care of the homeless? I know, it isn't the no cassino people, most of whom do not even live in the state. ( But they spend money here once a year.) 7. I also hope they put one in Emmittsburg, Thurmont, or even Fredrick. Don't hold your breath. The holier-than-thou people are even more prevelant in Md than in Adams County. VA will get slots before MD. 8. As for college students and even HS students getting free drinks; they aren't gettin them now and look how many young people are getting killed on Adams County roads. 9. What are the no-cassino people doing to clean up the bad parts of Gettysburg. The parts the visitors don't see????? 10. Oh, yes, let the healing begin, right after the victory party. What would they be saying if they lost. Let the appeals begin. 11. One mistake Mr Le Van made was to underestimate his oposition by not getting started earlier to round up his troops. (Sounds like a bad battle plan.) 12. I believe the die was cast before the first vote was cast. Why did the majority of the cassinos go to Phila., the Poconos, and one in Bethlehem which might as well be in the Poconos. 13. Big headline after the vote in the Gettysburg Times, Gettysburg Council will need to raise taxes to pay bills. Latest headline; Gettysburg needs to fire a cop so they can buy a cop car???? Who would of thunk it???????? Why don't they check with all the out-of-staters who signed the no cassino petition to help out? Maybe they could buy us a cop car. Better stopo before I offend someone. Wouldn't want to do that.

Gettysburg memorializes a place where many fought to defend values in which they believed. Many died, many were wounded and/or maimed. Making the battlefields a National Park recognized the price these people paid and I believe the ground is sacred. Gambling, to me, goes beyond economics for the area. It seems a frivolous and demeaning thing to do to a place like Gettysburg. It cheapens what Gettysburg is all about. I question that bringing gambling in to Gettysburg would be a boon. I lived in New Jersey and used to go to the ocean near Atlantic City. No one who knows the before and after of Atlantic City will say it improved the area.

I think that Adams County has missed out on a good deal. Most of the negative talk about a casino just doesn't apply. We are not talking a Las Vegas or Atlantic City here just one slots parlor. I enjoy visiting historical sites and a slots parlor would not stop me from going to one nor would it stop me from visiting the local businesses. When I was in Vegas a few years ago I did some gaming but also visited other sites around the area. Who thinks this would not happen here? I would not stay away from Vicksburg because of a slots parlor there but may visit the parlor while I'm there. During the Civil War the soldiers gambled among themselves so I would bet that if they were here today it would be possible that many of them may have visited a slots parlor. Just the tax money from building the hotel and spa part of the project would create a lot of tax money and the slots would have made it better but that may not happen now. Another hotel is not likely to make much money in Gettysburg there are enough now not to mention that it is seasonal. This would have brought people into the area year round increased the money spent in the area, more business down town and more local tax money. I hope that Maryland does approve slots and allow a parlor in Emmitsburg. Then Gettysburg can see what they are missing. I too hope that those that supported No Casino Gettysburg are willing to help me with my taxes. Maybe I should send them a bill. I feel that if a vote were taken in Adams County the mojority of people in the county either didn't care on way or the other or would have supported a slots parlor. I feel that the minority won. As a life long resident of the area I feel we lost.

I personally think the decision to not allow slots in Gettysburg is ridiculous! I grew up in Gettyburg and live there all my life until last year. The taxes are out of this world due to the high school that is now too small. As for Ms.Paddock, you and your fellow anti casino friends are whining over Mr Levan wanting to help the Gettysburg area, did you forget Mr.Levan donated money to the Majestic Theater, donated motorcycles for the Gettysburg police dept, etc?Mr.Levan you have my praise.Take your hard earned money and go use it elsewhere because the whiny anti-casino folks don't appreciate it.You deserve better recongition for your hard efferts.

Adams County comissioner Tom "Weiner" Weaver needs to back off the issue. He does not need to speak for the county residents who opposed this debacle, especially if it is going to use taxpayer dollars. If he wants to fund it himself, have at it.
