Some say the entire benefit package for state lawmakers deserves a second look. Retirement packages can exceed $100,000 a year. Also, News 8 poured over records and found local lawmakers taking money, more than $100 a day, thousands over the course of a year, just for driving to Harrisburg. News 8 also found questionable use of state planes, aircraft that was bought with taxpayer dollars. What do you think of all this?

All govenment employees should pay into the social security like the rest of us. Why should they have it differently than the private sector? And pensions should NOT be given to politicians because it is NOT in the state constitution. In fact it clearly states what they should receive and PENSION clearly not allowed. Yeah, I know that social security is crap, but they should not be given a free ride. Let them support themselves and prepare for retirement like the rest of us.

To me this is absolutely disgusting. They get all this money to do nothing while the taxes keep raising and they keep finding more things to take money away from the poor. They raise insurance, prescriptions, medicare and on and on. Then these people who do not deserve all this wealth sit back and crow for the rest of their lazy lives.

Yes, as public servents these folks deserve some sort of pension plan. However, isn't the monitary amount plus other fringe benefits just a little bit excessive. Some of these folks are getting more in retirement than they really deserved to receive when they were in office. Consider also that these folks will be receiving social security of some sort in addition to the various 401's and other IRA's that they were able to set up during their careers. Of course these amounts are just the ones that we know about.
Respectfully submitted

If I put money into a retirement fund from my pay, I'd want to get the money back. That's what the lump sums are, but they are made to sound like legislators are getting this money from taxpayers. It's only mentioned as "fine print" and not very well explained. I think the legislators are due retirement for time served. But I do want to know more about how the amounts are figured. Totals don't tell the story. Tell me the formulas. More than just these perks, we need to know what some other things are paid that maybe shouldn't be. And if we don't want high pensions, then let's limit terms. Less time served means fewer dollars.

Stop whining. Why shouldn't these guys get retirement plans? I bet none of you would be complaining if you were in their shoes.
If you really think this is so unfair then stop watching Oprah, get off the couch and do something about it like becoming a state lawmaker.
I'd love to see news story on some of the good things that come from our state lawmakers. But, we know that will never happen since it's not news unless it's bad news.
Maybe Simmeanu, Roche, et al should create a team to focus on the good things that are going on in our county for a change.

Does anyone listen to Bob Durgin? They were discussing how something is written into the constitution that lawmakers are to receive for compensation only a salary and mileage and NOTHING beyond that. Pensions are unconstitional - as well as health care, bonuses, etc. Where is the supreme court? Oh yeah, having cocktails with the legislators.

It's time this crooks go home and sit and waste away to nothing. This money was to be used to lower real estate taxes. Instead they are putting into their pockets and here we are again paying for the crooks to get richer. It is sad that they can go to sleep at night and not die in their sleep. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It will never change with people like these.

Post their names and deeds on the "public" billboards. Let the chips fall where they may.

Hello,Yes any and all money must require slips of justifacation. These people must be accountable. To let them pull money from the past or future in stealing. They should not have anything to hide. The real world requires proof of purchase for what ever money they said they spent. That is the correct way to operate. The honest way to show where my tax money is being wasted and what it is being used for Wake UP.This stealing has been going on if these people think they can make more money and not need to work or show up for work is stealing. We must make changes to this broken system.Thank You
