Indiana basketball coach Kelvin Sampson and two assisants violated telephone recruiting restrictions imposed because of his previous violations at Oklahoma, then lied about it to the school and NCAA investigators, a report from the NCAA released Wednesday said.
Do you think Sampson should lose his job because of the allegations?

There should be an escape clause in such contracts where the coach can be fired without a contract buyout for any of the following:
- Breaking the law - Multiple sports rule violations - Use of tax dollars for sports (public university)
A losing season should not be among the reasons, because half of the teams in a competing group MUST have losing seasons.

After reading about the allegations made against Kelvin Sampson, I am angry that the NCAA thinks this is HIS major violations. The assistant coaches, one of which is still on the bench at Indiana, are the ones who violated most of the rules. Yes, by being the head coach he is ultimately responsible but they are adults too and should be held responsible. If Sampson is gone so should the other assistant coach. As an IU Alumni, and someone who thinks Bobby Knight is GOD!!, I do not think he should return to IU. I also do not like the idea of Dan Dackich coaching our team. He did not do well at Bowling Green and I don't think he will do well in the Big Ten either. I hate it that this is happening to a great University. I am proud of the team Coach Sampson put together this year and what they have done. I hate it that he may have had a "PART" in these allegations, but I respect him all the same and hope that all goes well for him from this point forward.

I agree with the choice to fire Mr. Sampson. I am saddened to see the $750,000.00 reward. Although it is quoted to be a "buyout" to avoid a more expensive law suit, it still sends the wrong message. This man may have good coaching ideas, but he obviously lacks integrity. Why would he intentionally lie and cheat and make such bad decisions, knowing the risks? (Hundreds of times, not just once or twice, or the five times noted at IU.)He has hurt himself and his family more that IU. He could redeem himself by giving all of the 750K to IU sports student scholarships, admit his wrongs, give up coaching, change his wicked ways, and write a book about "doing the right thing, at the right time." The greatest reasons for sports include knowing the rules, and following them. Right, Sport? With wisdom and proper guidance IU can snap back. The black eye will heal. Let's just pray Sampson doesn't end up the coach of the Pacers.

Yes, he should have learned from before. But why is he getting a golden parachute? If I would violate policy at work I would be immediately fired, escorted off the property, and would forfeit any active stock options and my pension. How do we explain that "special" people get rewarded for breaking the rules.

The only way to avoid controversy is to not hire a head coach.
In other forums, I suggested the following mechanical substitutes for politicians:
- Replace the governor with a dump truck.
- Replace mayors with wind-up mice.
So I now suggest that we replace all basketball coaches with toasters.

Please try to be mature about this and leave Coach Knight out of this. This has nothing to do with Coach Knight. This all about one man's lieing to his University and to the NCAA knowingly, although he is in denial of that. Indiana University knew what they were getting when they hired Mr. Sampson. How they hired him with his graduation rate is beyond me. Did Indiana University degrade itself knowing his graduation rate? Did the University decided that all they wanted was "wins" and could care less about what means to get them? It's unfortunate that IU's reputation has been tarnished but all they can do is blame themselves. I don't expect Mr. Sampson to lose his job, though I think he should, and perhaps it is the only means that IU can save itself from falling grace, however the DAMAGE is done, thus no firing of Mr. Sampson will happen.
Thank you,

I believe Kelvin Sampson is a disgrace to I.U. I.U was always complaining about Bobby Knight and his actions and I.U got rid of Bobby Knight and for what this jokester WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND I.U should have kept the Bobby Knight.

I agree that Coach Kelvin Sampson should be fired. He chose to ignor the rules. This behavior sends the wrong message to players and students, IU and sports in general.
