The Legislature has passed a bill that would finance a new stadium for the Indianapolis Colts and an expansion of the Indiana Convention Center. What do you think about this?

Would someone please explain to me how the 'donut counties' are going to benefit from this BOONDOGGLE? As I understand it,the Colts can't even sell out the games they have now,how is spending 900 million of our hard earned dollars going to help that? Don't tell me that the 7 or 8 counties are going to get business because of this thing. There are enough hotels, restaurants and shops in Indianapolis to keep any visitors occupied. Do our legislators REALLY think that we are that stupid? As far as I'm concerned,Jim Irsay can pack up the whole organization and get out of our state. His values, the drugs, the spending millions on the Kerouac manuscript, are wildly out of sync with the way most Hoosiers live. Enough. I am sick of the Colts and gravely disappointed in Govenor Daniels.

what do i think? whats it matter what the voter thinks. once the politician is in office they will do what they want. they are going to raise the tax to fund this new stadium like it or not. some ask what about the previous tax on the "dome", well the state is still collecting it and every year state and local government politicians give themselves fairly attractive raises, although they cant seem to pay our police, firemen or teachers. send in sanchez channel 6 he will sort this mess out!

To say that it's okay to go along with the taxation just because taxation is an excepted way of life, shows just how bad off we are as a society. If the MAJORITY of those impacted by any taxation (especially for a sporting event)have stated that they are opposed to it, then how does it get passed by elected REPRESENTATIVES to support the minority interest. Remember the definition of REPRESENTATIVE means "one who serves as an agent for another". When has our local and state representatives fought, in the last ten years, to get new major corporate businesses into the tax-pool.

The individual in charge of Public Relations slipped up with not seeing the LONG or Short TERM impact of calling the Counties surrounding Marion County (Indy)::: the "Dough Nut Counties"...
(( Now stop - and - THINK for a few Seconds..... Time is Up.! ! IF THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES ARE THE "Dough Nut Counties - - THAT MAKES Marion County (Indy) the "Dough Nut Hole". YEP, the B I G - - H O L E...... ))
Wow, what many thoughts can be hooked upon that thought... When you finished with those thoughts - - Consider the Bottomless PIT into which All those Tax Dollars will be plundged.
Okay, I live outside of the affected area -and - I may one day enjoy visiting the facilities. BUT, If the economic part of the projects run into difficulty:: I am sure the entire State (which includes me) will be forced to bail out those ""unfor-seen woops we messed up"" problems.
As I said, the Public Relations Team -- really didn't fully think out the concept. Well team, time for a ""Dough Nut Break"", enjoy your coffee. What kind of dough nut today? ? Cake, Glazed, or Nut covered..? ? See you at the "Dough Nut Hole"". Watch out for the tidle flood of tax dollars ! ! !

Give them the money, and make it fast. If you don't agree with the tax, don't eat out. You have a choice here.
Whether you like it or not, all of us are paying to subsidize these sports franchises anyway. Do you really think a quart of Gateraide costs $1.49? The cost is $0.02 for packaging, $0.05 for the materials, $0.20 for shipping and handling, $0.50 for everyone's mark ups and the rest to cover advertisments and sponsorships. Poweraide does not do the sponsorships like gateraide and their price is $0.99 per quart.
The same goes for our cell phones, our utilities even our 401K investments not to mention insurance payments. We're taxed to death.
Add the restrauant tax. At least we have the choice of this tax being taken. All these other "hidden taxes" we pay without even realizing it.

Our government is a sham. We hear of cutbacks at DMV, threats of cutbacks in fire and police. Education cuts. People who can't pay taxes and survive, yet our government finds ways to pay for a stadium for a bunch of overpaid athletes. They should be addressing the needs of the people of the state.

I'm really tired of the governments coming up short in funds and find their only way out is to raise taxes. If a family wants or needs something they have to scrimp and save to pay. I think the salaries are astronomical along with ticket prices and concessions. Why can't the players take a pay cut and use those monies to fund the stadium?

Most people can not afford to go to the Colts games now, why should we have to pay for something we can not even take our kids to? This money should go to education!

For your information; the original 1981 or 1982 1% F&B tax in Marion county that was supposed to be for 10 years only as per the referendum vote has already been extended twice and now will continue arbitrarily until 2041. Seems as though the CIB kept refinancing the original bonds for the initial 64 million dollar stadium (yes believe it or not the original stadium was ONLY 64 million versus the 500 to 690 million dollar new stadium. So much for inflation or is it the Chevy versus Cadillac syndrome). Also, what a SWEET Deal for Irsay, the city is going to pay the Colts a lump sum of 48 million for breaking the current lease (the same lease that Irsays threatens to leave if he doesn't get a new taxpayer funded stadium) and he will have 10 years to pay his 52 million (100 minus 48 million) and he still get proceeds from EVERY event that is held at the new stadium (Basketball etc.). A sweet deal indeed.

Hello, my husband brought this to my attention, this morning...
Hello, my name is Debbie Cooley of Cumberland, Indiana..
"Raising the Food & Beverage Tax" just to support another outrageous Sport Stadium...
First of all : WHERE IS THE PENNY TAX GOING THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO PAY FOR THE HOOSIER DOME? THE HOOSIER DOME HAS NOT BEEN EXITENCE FOR A LONG TIME... WHERE IS THAT MONEY??
If that money was in an account, like an HONEST PERSON, the State could write a check for this New Stadium....
LET'S MAKE SOMEBODY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS MONEY... If, I stole Tax money, I would be in Prison, WHY AREN'T THEY BEING HELD TO THE SAME STANDARDS THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS ??? WHERE'S THAT MONEY ???? !!!!!
BEFORE ANOTHER PENNY IS ADDED TO INDIANAPOLIS'S RESTURANTS, and a select few NORTHERN COUNTIES, EVERY CITY RESTAURANTS - IN THE STATE - NEEDS TO BE TAXED..
SOMEONE NEEDS TO FIND OUT WHAT THAT FIRST PENNY TAX IS BEING USED FOR...
THANKS,
Signed: Concerned Citizens for Honest Local Government... (The CCHLG group).
