What would you do to improve service at Indiana's Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branches?

Better hours, bigger facilities, more employees that do not have an attitude and more than one camera.

Fire all the lazy bums that Ive had to deal with. If some of the employees would stop chating with there co workers about there life and learn to use a computer then they might speed up some...

I think a lot of the people are missing the boat on BMV improvement ideas. Granted, the satellite branches should be closed, however, most of the license branches are not costing the taxpayers money. In my opinion, it is the FAT at the top of the totem pole. Also, the majority of the citizens of Indiana do no realize who actually gets the money when excise is paid. It goes to the County where the person lives. Same in the case of the lovely wheel tax most counties charge. This tax is passed by their County Commissioners. These people are voted in. The license branch gets a minute amount of the monies collected for excise/wheel tax before it is passed on to the counties. The wheel tax is for roads (HA HA). I think the legislature needs to revamp who gets what in the breakdown of the fees collected for each transaction and the legislature also needs to make each accountable for the spendatures. This meaning the counties also. Lets see where it really goes. As far as the public restrooms or eating in the lobby, who wants to clean up after the public. If the Indianapolis Branches didn't give all the Branches such a bad name, maybe things would be different. Make them accountable and customer friendly. Every Govenor has a better idea on running the State and he appoints someone who will follow his lead. This Govenor is only out for big business and lining his/their pockets. Bigger is not always better when it comes to customer service. MITCH (and his appointees) needs to be PITCHED!!!

I agree with teammom24. In addition to adding public restrooms, it would help to make longer waits a little more tolerable if people were allowed to bring food and beverages into the license branch. Often a wait runs through lunch. When people get hungry, they get even more irritable. I don't see any reason for not allowing food. Eating helps pass the time.

The solution to the BMV is the same as most government agencies.Allow a privatized alternative. Pay the individual branches according to what their customers pay for. If customers are willing to accept slow service for a price break, fine. If they are willing to pay more for speed, fine. But nobody wants to pay more for slow.Such offices would go under, and good riddance.
Thanks for lending me your ears, Woody

Is hiding the clocks supposed to make people forget how long they're waiting? BMV people are clock watchers? Sorry, I've never seen it. These "improvements" are ridiculous. Give the employees a decent wage break, get some better computers and software. Did you know our State employees are the lowest paid in all the surrounding states, even Kentucky? Hundreds of them qualiy for food stamps and assistance. Our Man Mitch is re-engineering State jobs which means he's adding a huge number of Engineers at the expense of regular workers. He wants to fire all disabled workers, get rid of clerks and secretaries but add dozens of $70k a year jobs for Engineers. He has an RV to tool around in but wants to get rid of the motor pool for anyone else - even though workers were told their job included a vehicle for commute and work use. Now State workers are facing an increase in benefit costs, no raise (unless they're an engineer), and most will have no way to get to work. Maybe Gov Daniels will remove ALL clocks and that'll solve everything.

Our brand-new license branch does not have a public restroom. Sometimes there is a significant wait and those with small children need to use the facilities. Removing clocks from public view will not make BMV customers feel any more comfortable during their wait. I think it is just another item to add to the growing list of totally absurd "great ideas" that the BMV has come up with. What else are they trying to "fool" us on?

The BMV recently closed a few low volume offices. Several more offices could probably be eliminated if RV's were properly equipped and visited these low volume locations a few times a month. This would allow one mobile unit to serve several smaller communities.
BVM could make arrangements with town halls, libraries or bank offices for a high speed data connection to the central computers.
While I realize that it would be difficult to accomodate the handicapped in mobile units, most in these small comminities could be served efficiently at a reasonable cost.
