The National Organization for Women says that it will raise money for the defense fund of Andrea Yates, who is accused of the drowning deaths of her five children. What do you think about NOW's decision to help Yates? Leave your first name and city so that we can air your comments.

As a 37 year old mother of two, now 17 and 18, and three ex-step-children, now 20, 22, and 25 - And being 22 when I became the mother of five (at the time 1, 3, 6, 8, and 12) - talk about mental stress - but not once would I have ever thought of killing one must less all five of my children.

Any organization that supports a women (regardless of what they say her mentality was at the time) after she killed her five children with her bare hands, holding them under water, while they struggle for air, watching them drowning, suffering, and ultimately murdering them, should not be allowed to be an Organized humane group. I think their mental stability should be analyzed.

And the father - He knew the status of his mentally challenged wife. I believe he wanted the children dead because of financial reasons - as for the rest of the family, someone could have done something to prevent this tragedy and they will have to live with that truth for the rest of their lives.

Maybe it is the Texan in me, but my vote is...

GET A ROPE!

Are you kidding me?? When I heard that NOW was going to give its support to Andrea "the Baby Killer" Yates, my blood went cold. There is nothing that anyone from NOW will ever be able to say that will convince me that what they are doing is right. That monster (and that is what she is, a monster, not a mother) methodically and deliberatly murdered five innocent children. I think that the only person more disgusting and in need of the death penalty then Andrea Yates is her sorry excuse of a husband. If you ask my, the state of Texas should throw his butt in the electric chair as soon as it gets done with her!!!!! From this day forward I will do whatever I can to not support NOW, or anyone else who lends support to that cold hearted killer, Andrea Yates (yes, that means you Rosie o'Donell!!). I just have a comment to make to all of the ladies stating that Andrea has postpartum depression. This is very untrue. She has postpartum psychosis which is VERY different. She has an extremely serious mental illness and deserves to be treated. Don't get me wrong, I don't think she should ever be free again but I do believe she was insane at the time of the killings. She does not deserve the death penelty. I have been around mental illness my whole life and have had personal experience with postpartum depression so I know the kind of things that run through your mind when going through PPD. Unless you have gone through it, you can NEVER imagine what it is like. It is the most terrifying thing I have ever gone through. Of course I never harmed myself or my child, but as I stated before, I only has Postpartum depression, NOT Postpartum Psychosis. As for the NOW issue, I belive the Yates deserve support. I am not a fan of NOW but in this case, the family needs all the help they can get. Thank You, Jennifer Shingler

I suppose that NOW can do whatever they want with their money, but I do believe that they are going to lose a lot of popularity and support by doing this. They are not an organization that supports women, they are an organization that supports sick people. And just to add a bit of info. I will never support anything they do no matter what it is and I will never watch Rosie O'Donnel's show again either, as she supports Andrea Yates as well.

I think anyone that would do anything to help this women is as demented as she is, but let them raise their money to help defend her because no matter how much money they raise or what the verdict comes back as that evil women will pay the ultimate price on her judgement day. When it starts to get to you what this women did just remind yourself of what she's going to get in return the day she stands in front of God and has to answer for it.

I think it's a great idea for NOW to help this woman who killed all of her children. They already support the killing of millions of unborn babies, why not support the ones who've already been born?? NOW=baby killers. Jesus is the only way, NOW should wisen up before it's too late.

I can not even believe they would consider helping this women! Many women suffer from PPD and do not drown 5 children. Why don't they raise money for abused children and put their money to some real use. I will never be able to understand what would drive a mother to drown her 5 children, and I will never believe that PPD was the cause of this! She is crazy, that I agree with you would have to be to commit such an act against 5 beautiful children. My feelings about her are, hurry up and put her out of her misery! Her husband should be on trail too! I feel he's just as responsible! Society can do without the both of them.

I'd like to disagree, in part, with a comment made by PLegallink. ALL women do NOT suffer from post-partum depression. I've had four children and my sister has had two and neither of us have had PPD. However, I've known many, many women who have, though it is certainly less than half of the women I know who have given birth.

To say ALL women, pertpetuates many people's beliefs that PPD is a myth, which it most certainly is not.

I mentioned that neither my sister or I had it. I sometimes wonder if PPD might not be a combination of the hormones and the overall chemical make up one inherits and also added to/triggered by circumstances in ones life, leading up to and soon after a birth.

Whatever, it is truly real and deserves to be treated as real for those who suffer from it and not broadbrushed in a way to cause skeptics to say, "See, they say all and I've never had it, so it's just an excuse."

As to NOW supporting women who are dealing with a "woman's illness" that is not taken seriously, that is the reason I have supported NOW since the early 70's and will continue to do so.

NOW can do whatever it wants with their money and I doubt if the people who posted the bloodthirsty ravings I just read are mentally capable of offering their opinions in the first place. Andrea Yates is a Christian and has done what too many Christians have been doing for the past several years: harming our national psyche via unprincipled, flamboyant, go- for-the-throat behavior. I cannot think of a better example of the parents' rights movements and the home schooling movements -- usually supported by religious fanatics of all stripes -- than Andrea Yates. Doesn't anyone know that so many Christians support the home schooling movement so that people will not be able to see the bruises on their kids? What a better way to hide child abuse than the home schooling movement in which the kids aren't allowed into normal society, a normal society that may notice that something is terribly wrong. And we should not forget the real villain of this tragedy: Russell Yates, another born again death squad member who KNEW his wife suffered post partum depression, yet continued to impregnate her again and again and again, as if he were a sperm machine, citing: "We shall have as many children as God allows" as his justification. I suppose Russell and Andrea will also murder as many children as their twisted god will allow. Yates should be fired from NASA, also. Why keep some goon on the payroll who doesn't even believe in the science that shoots rocket ships into space? This entire tragedy has nothing to do with murderous moms -- unless we want to create an entire generation of righteous Menendez brothers. This case is an indictment of an illness known as fundamentalist Christianity -- but nobody has the guts to say so.

Gayest regards, DonkeyKen

that woman belongs on the chair.who ever tries to help her, has either no children or is lost in his or her mind.if the judge is not going to sentence her to death , then i believe there will be a big questionmark set whether they are normal or not.she knew, what she did way to good.no one should support her.
