The University of Hawaii narrowed the field to two logo designs. Then Evan Dobelle dropped them after public criticism.

What do you think about the process?

What would you do? What should the design contain?

LEAVE THE LOGO AS IS!!!!!!!!!!!

The key here and one of the main ideas for changing the logo. Was and is to take the Hawaiian Culture out of the education process. They want to main stream and just like the mainland. Just like the newer neighborhoods are behind gated or walled areas. Some areas of the Island look just like suburb anywhere USA. They want to destroy the native culture in the middle and upper classes. They cannot do this overtly so they do it subvertly. A change here, a change there, somthing native out or frowned on here or there. After a while you have nothing to call your own. The Loco Moco's out of business and all you have left is national chains. The same with education. Pretty soon you have ASU or USC, Hawaii. What we need is UH Local to the Bone. With a high speed modem.

Thank goodness all were thrown out! Awful! Bring back the Rainbow! No foget wat makes Hawaii special...wea was da "Hawaii" type graphics? I'm with "awsomeron" what about the "arts" department...got some talent there! Waste of money that could have been spent elsewhere!

Aloha: A simple solution? Have high school seniors be part of the logo design process. An incentive would be money toward their collage education. How uncomplicated is that? We have so many talented young people in this State that would love to be part of the process. Wake up Adults! give the youth a positive way to express their Hawaiian culture and heritage! Mahalo.

I believe that UH has a Art and Graphics Department. Why? should any money be spent out side the school. All six of the new logo ideas are not very good thats makes about 10 different ideas that were not very good and a lot of money spent that could have been spent else where. I DO NOT THINK THAT THE UH LOGO NOW BEING USED IS BROKEN SO WHY? The need to fix it.

Nothing really catches my eye. It is really frustrating that the state spends our money so easily. Don't these state agencies have boards? Maybe each department should have a financial board that looks at expenditures over a certain amount, to brainstorm and present other alternatives. UH is a public institution and if I was on a board like this, I would make it a contest, so that you get the best possible logo. Top logo from the private sector, UH students and the public sector would get a prize fee and they would be put against each other for the top award. Giving contracts to certain businesses/organizations, especially dealing with creativity, limits our options. Why pay up front for a job not garenteed?

My truth is; these logo's need to go! As many other's have commented in this forum, these logo's lack imagination and pizzazz. They are much to boring, very much like old college text books. Remember, may be not but all college text books only had plain text. Most had a plain cover and almost no pictures at all, not even black and white ones. I say that we live in a visual world, we live in the information world. We needed a logo that represent both of those things and most importantly this great place we call Hawaii. The Universtiy is in Hawaii.

I agree with chad w, make it an open opportunity for everyone to put their two cents in. He is right, 99% of what comes in will not be what Hawaii and the University of Hawaii will be looking for. Half of which will be cr*p, but in that neck high pile of composting logos, I bet you, no i grantee it there will be one bright shinning beam of light that will illuminate the whole world. A logo that all will agree is the University of Hawaii! It might be a student, your post man, don ho, hell maybe even one of the regents but someone out there has the answer.

Eeh... I sorry. I just cannot see any of the regent's having that much of an imagination. I think its their fault for wasting all of the money and the failure in finding a new logo. Infact the should all be removed for the UH president mess.

Remember the logo must unify all of UH and will represent all of Hawaii.

Of all the talented designers in this state, UH has the audacity to put forth these 6 designs? Are you kidding me? Ugly, unimaginative and hardly representative of Hawaii or UH. What a slap in the face to our state and loyal UH fans and alumni. OPEN THE DESIGN UP TO THE PUBLIC!!!!

What's more important, a new logo or being an ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY?????

Who's idea was it to change the logo in the first place? BOR ????

hello, its obvious UH isnt hiring the right people for the job. choosing a new logo shouldnt have taken this long. by this time you dont need a logo that represents the school or the ten systems or whatever, you need a logo that pleases the people instead. the best designers are right at tour front door and you dont even know it. for that the best thing to do is just keep the old one till something better comes along. maybe dont hire anyone. have another public entry offering same deal offered to design firms that cant produce anything solid. yes you will have an overload of crap sent (99% crap) but in the crap the new logo awaits. get it together people. chadW
