Cameras have been set up to catch motorists running red lights and speeding.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Does this seem unfair?

Get Brian (or is it Brain?) Minaai to pay for contract close-out. He had the aalas to start it; he should have them to close it out.

I've been driving for a while without the traffic cam vans hanging around. I've noticed the difference in the stress level(mine of course). I appreciate the freedom and feel much less claustrophobic living on this island...I do appreciate the new speed limits also! Lookin in the "rear view mirror," that was one ugly mess a few greedy people got us tangled in!

GREAT IDEA, of course some people will be unhappy because they will get caught ALL THE TIME and they will HAVE TO slow down. That would be me too!

A very simple question about the red light traffic cameras? will these cameras be able able to take the picture of the driver ? yeah right who was driving that vehicle when it ran the red light! I don't think so ! only picture it will take is a license plate number and the picture of the vehicle. So here we go again !AHH!! I wasn't the one driving that vehicle !!?? SO! trash the traffic light cameras.Goodbye we will waste our time and tax payers money on this.

Now.....our political buffoons want to flog a dead horse. Karamoto is whinning about bringing back the "red-light" cameras to save "four million" and pats himself on the back for trying to save the public money.

I can not understand the lack of common sense. It is because of him and his cohorts that the public is out the four million in the first place plus other undisclosed millions in start up costs.

I propose the shortfall be made up from the DOT's budget as it is their bumbling and lack of leadership that caused this fiasco to reach this point in the first place. Or if they do not have the funds (because again that is "our" money)....the public should be reimbursed by the democratic party as it is their elected party members that ultimately caused this collective mess. If that happened.... it sure would stop loud mouth politicians from passing bills with out thinking of the impact "first".....not after the fact.

The public has another chance to send these idiots a message they will not forget.......vote republican!!

Manele (sad to say a registered democrat...lol)

An 8 million dollar billing didn't appear by total surprise. Now it seems obvious why some fought so hard to keep with this despised program.Contracts have fine print which should be clear in an agreement. As I mentioned, the DOT went to bed with a deal and their eyes closed.

I feel that the State should have stood up to the whiners and told them to grow up and be responsible for there actions. If they didn't speed and brake the law then they would have problems. I also believe they should be brought back and place in residential areas to protect our children. Maybe the State should make every licensed driver and registered owner when renewing their registration / licenses to sign a liability sheet stating they will be issued photo tickets. The State will now have to pay millions in contract termination and we all know that the money will probably come from Department of Education. Maybe when elections are not coming up then they will be back.

I felt safer with the van cams -- it did invade my privacy BUT it FORCED people to slow down -- now watch how many serious accidents we will have. For fatality purposes, the red light and speeding cameras will help determine the person at fault.

Aloha! Ulu

So very sad that the cams are gone. At least we know who to sue when a loved one is killed by a speeding motorist or someone runs a red light. I kept a list of those against it. Why are politicians so afraid of the public. I know its election year. The governor doesn't care he is on his way out. So what if it cost the tax payers money? The governor can pay it.

Back again just to add, it is true we as the people should obey the law better. But, what about those who make it bad for the good. I think more severe penalties should be placed on the speedies. What ever happened to kids need to deserve their car by showing resposability as a mature law obeying citizen. Hint: 1st Offense; take the car away. 2nd offense; take the car, license, fine. 3rd offense; take the car, license, fine, slammer time. or make them clean kahoolawe with a magnetic shovel.
