Gasoline prices cover a wide range across the state.

Why do you think the prices are so different?

Do you think gasoline quality varies from station to station?

Do you notice a difference in the types of gasoline you fill your vehicle with?

Please tell me that I'm not the only one noticing this. It's great that gas prices have decreased slightly over the past few weeks. However, doesn't it seem like we're all catching more red lights lately? Doesn't it also seem like the red lights take a little bit longer changing to green? I truly believe that the State and the gas companies are in cahoots! When we burn more gas, we need to buy more gas. It's just another way to regain the tax and profit losses both the State and gas companies are experiencing. If the State changes the frequency and timing of traffic lights, we burn more gas. We then have to visit the nearest gas station to buy more. The frequency of fillups increases and both the State and gas companies regain what they lost. What a country!

For awhile it seemed that prices going under $3 per gallon meant prices going to $2.999 -- oh wow. Now it is down to about $2.88 per gallon. Will be nice when it gets back to $2.25 per gallon and we don't have to think about it anymore -- It seems that stations that only sell self service gas and snacks increase pressure on gasoline dealers who provide full service, partial service, or mechanic services. Every city should at least have one dealer who provides the whole works like repairs, tire checks, and front checks for air, water, oil, etc. And who sell tires, batteries and accessories and day/ night hours; including weekends/ holidays. Or at least maybe one dealer could become a 24 hour place like the food chains. Maybe it could be combined with a book store/ coffee shop/ Kinko's type place for those who wait.

Kindest regards

I don't think they should announce next week's gas prices as going up 25 cents or 10 cents or whatever; you're only encouraging or giving permission to retailers to charge the max price; should say, instead, it could, could go up 25 cents or 5 cents .. maybe we could have an alternative transit day when everyone must take another way to travel to work; like walk, bike, trolley, swim, boat, fly, piggy back, roller blade, roller skate, skateboard, etc, horseback maybe. Or maybe once a year we should close down H-3 and allow people to walk the beautiful mountainous route; or trolley it or bike it; so people are reminded of the beauty and not just the asphalt.

Kindest regards

I kindof wish now that the Kapahulu Safeway had kept its gasoline function proposal as maybe they would offer their customers those famous 2 for 1 specials. You know, it coulda been, buy one gallon gas, get the next one free! It couldva been one of their come-ons loss leaders.!

Kindest regards

Say someone who owns an SUV now pays $20 more a week, that's $1040 more a year ($20x52). If they cut out there Starbucks (or pick your daily mindless $$ habit) in the morning ($4.50x5) that would equal $22.50 a week. People will adjust there lifestlyes and move forward if they're smart. Until I someday own a ranch I personally refuse to own anything other than a 4cyl. I'm just a tightwad I guess. BTW, the other day I asked the president of New City Nissan when Nissan would come out with an elec/gas hybrid and he told me there will be an Altima like that in a year.

I'm now laughing at all of those people who bought SUV's just to be cool and rule the road. Now they are paying for it! I find it ridiculous that a city like Honolulu has yet to build a rail system. If only city council had passed the rail proposal back in the early days, we wouldn't be in such a harsh position now. Screw Rene Mansho who was one of those who voted against the rail! I also find it crazy that for a small island, everyone has a car! If only the city had a better public transportation system it wouldn't be so bad. I used to ride The Bus and I hated it! Never on time, so what does the city expect.

Experiencing these rising gas prices may feel like a knife stabbing us in the back. To make matters worse, some Stations like Aloha Gas will twist the knife by placing a $100 hold on your debit card. So not only are customers dishing out large sums of money, unknowingly they will be short of funds next time they use their debit cards. This will cause a lot of bounced checking accounts. I heard this on the news and my daughter experienced it this weekend. Aloha Gas, post some disclaimers so we can decide whether to buy from you or not.

Perhaps the State Consumer Advocate or the Attorney General's office can initiate an investigation of price fixing and gouging by the State's two sole refineries, Chevron and Tesoro, since Sept 1. I have heard no mention of this in the media since the gas cap law took effect and the rapid increase in prices. The prices they charge should be based only on the crude oil prices that had momentarily reached $70 per barrel about ten days ago and has since declined to about $64. The percentage change in crude is far lower than the drastic increases in gas prices.

It's extremely unfortunate to see such an event going on. I just don't understand how nationally, the average can drop by 4-5 cents, yet ours rose 15-44 cents in Kona. This gas cap "law" is making things more difficult for us. I've seen the prices rise here 70 cents in a week. That is unthinkable and unnessecary. When is something going to be done to repeal this pathetic law?

Aloha: I have long been an advocate for using THE BUS as an alternative form of transportation. Now comes Katrina and "Gas Cap". How does the using THE BUS as the cheaper form of transportation sound now? Non-believers, continue to use your auto and work to pay for gas! Have a great day in paradise
