I will not watch the show anymore, period. Why pick somebody that can afford to fix their own house, when Waianae has any number of people who need help with their houses. That money could have helped people who live on foodstamps and really need help , just thinking about it makes me upset as I go to my low wage job and know I will never be able to afford my dream house on what I earn. Try dream of owning one house and work for $7.25 a hour and have to give the IRS money because they say you earn taxable income while people live in houses I will never own.

Com'on Awesomeron, let's not get carried away, you "got to" nobody. You've been posting so long in your own style, people have gotten used to your posts (through internet osmosis). Continue to hammer away, whether they love you or wanna bleep you out!

As for me, I don't know some of these people personally that I've been anonymously critizing or supporting (Akanas to Kawamoto). I'd like to insert the disclaimer that at this age, I realize news info never shows ALL the facts and I realize also no one is all good or all corrupt.

This is the beauty of art and cinema (often more than one side to the story i.e. Rashomon by Kurosawa).

Wow! I guess it must have been tough to find an older wahine on fixed income with a termite eaten old style shack on her last can of vienna sausage. Yeah, help the over 250 thousand bracket first. I'm glad they had a fine criteria of need to screen out da broken teeth, pidgin speaking folks udda wise mainland America no can undastand.

"I like tank u folks fo da kokua !!!" Guy watching in Vermont: "Huh?"

I'm sure there must have been a couple of volunteers who felt, "Aw hell..shoulda go feex my mudda's bat-troom first."

"Non-profit" is the biggest misnomer in the English language.

I smell a scam. Let's see. She's the executive director of a non-prof, who earns more than $100,000 per year in salary and benefits, and leases back half of her house for an additional $22k. Her husband earns at least $150k, plus perks, as a First Hawaiian VP. Her non-prof sits on 3+ acres in Kalihi Valley. And she couldn't (afford to) repair her house, or lacked the "expertise?" Good grief! I wonder how all those poor saps who earn $30,000/year--about 10% of the Akana family's gross earnings--survive?! I'm amazed that this family can rationalize their acceptance of EM's largesse. The rich get richer... Oh, and yes, her non-prof pays a PR person to extoll her virtues and field all of those uncomfortable questions about her earnings. Auwe!

It appears that there are some more problems.Like her $100,000 plus per year pay. "O my love for the disadvantaged" However that should not take away from the overall good upgrading the house(s) will do. People with jobs in Homelessness and with the Disadvantaged sometimes get paid well. That is where the admin costs come in. You pay to have someone head the program that can make it work. You can have all the love that your uneducated self wants to have. However it you do not know how to apply for and access Grant Money then you are not going to get very far. In comes the program director and they do not come cheap. If the program is their adventure and their baby, and it doing well and helping people, then the Laborer Is Worthy Of His/Her hire, simple as that.

Aloha: This morning's Advertizer has an article about the "Extreme makeover" couple. According to the producer's of the show, they did a careful background check of both current husband and wife. The article mentioned nothing about Ms. Akana's former relationship with "person of interest" in the disappearance of a young woman. In some cases, it is better to let "sleeping dogs lay" Right?

Have a great day in paradise

oops! We might have a problem here. Speaking of 'reveals',did Momi Durand Akana reveal to the producers of the show about her past with Jon Onuma, a man profiled on America's Most Wanted for his role in the disappearance of Kristen Modafferi. ABC News even did a show on Onuma. Jon Walsh said Onuma is a person of interest and cops want to question him? Where was he when this episode aired? Well - he was in Hawaii - with Momi. They have a son together. Igrant you that ABC Extreme Makeover has thr perfect right to select whom they wish - I just wonder if they were dealt with honestly by Momi. www.findkristen.com IRONY: ABC Does two features ion people at that residence. One was Momi and they build her a new home - the other was Onuma - suspected in the disappearance of Kristen Modafferi - a beautiful young woman from Charlotte, NC. Don't meanto rain on anyone's parade - but Kristen's wellbeing deserves to be mentioned in this discussion.

I like the show and I like the way they help people. However, I only watch the beginning: when the family gets surprised; and the ending: when the family gets surprised again.

I also think the crew shows genuine concern for the families and their situations. Props to them.
