Color Matters!
Too bad this happened but this type of violence will continue if people don't take up Art 101 and learn their "COLORS" like FBOldHaoleHo Donna and her racist so-called haole gang at Lydia's Beauty Salon. If only the native Hawaiian people knew that Donna thinks that black American men are Hawaiians. Huh! What an insult!
People like you should go back where you came from for it's this type of ethnocentric attitude that will place you in trouble as this haole woman who got her face punched!
This is what Growingdaily wrote on another topic with regards to bi-racial issues. What Growingdaily forgot to include is the "Attitudes" of these "Colors" that trigger violence like what happened to that haole family.
Growindaily wrote: 8d ago "Good Hair"; "High Yellow"; "Red Bone"; "Cute to be dark"; "Marry someone to improve the race"; "He or she is too dark"; etc.
Anyone who has ever been intimately familiar with any "minority" group will be familiar with these terms. Many in those minority groups struggle with self-hatred. Who can blame them? Society does not play up dark features as beautiful or good. The dark person is always the villain. As far as beauty, "Tall, dark, and handsome" conjures up images of a really tan white, Latin, or Mediterranean MAN; not necessarily a full-lipped, broad-nosed, coarse hair, dark-skinned black woman or man. Rather we were socialized about the the "beautiful, fair maiden" and Bo Derek as the "10." Not surprising that the high number of black men in interracial relationships found blondes, and white women in general, more attractive. In Bollywood films, Hip Hop videos, Asian commercials, Telenovellas, etc., the color issue is played out over and over. The lighter complexioned, fairer-haired individuals are the heroes and/or the desired one.
I say this to say that "color matters." To call people who realize this "ignorant" is very judgmental. No one has cornered the market on pain and just because your pain may come from another place, it is unfair to think that this issue does not impact people deeply. When we no longer view one race as superior to anotherin terms of physical characteristics, social, and/or educational status, maybe then the only motive for marrying across racial lines will be love vs. status improvement, "pretty kids," Settling, etc. Until then, it may be too idealistic or simplistic to think that blending of the races will end racism. If we all woke up tomorrow and were all tan, within a few hours someone would figure out a way to make distinctions--bi-racial children of Asian and white heritage are better or worse than bi-racial children of black and Indian ancestry. I agree that it is time to move on and that love should prevail and not be hindered by color, but for now, the reality is "it is what it is."
This is a comment that was submitted to USA Today.

i read earlier a true different version about what transpired in Hawaii. i have to agree that the military couple did start all this, they are attention getters and love to be in the lime light. i really don't feel it was racial, i feel it was a immature family just wanting to start trouble, and further more, if she did care anything about her child in the back seat, why did she get out of the car? geez, why didn't they even appologize and call the police since they did hit the truck. don't be to eager to cast a blame on one side until you fully know the other, they are trouble causing people.

Let me throw in again on the supposed racism, and this is more or less from the top. We do not have a Lottery or hooked into a Super Six, because it would be degrading to the Aloha Spirit and also Hawaiians and other poor people would spend their money on tickets instead of food. Gov. Lingle says that it?s too hard for the poor to recycle 2 liter bottles so they are not taxed. Yet most of the people that recycle bottles are poor people. Also it?s too hard for stores to employ people to handle the bottles and cans, or buy the machines. (In Oregon the special people are trained and hired by stores to handle this job). So thousands of bottles are not recycled which makes pure profit for the State. Supply of Social Services are never kept to the demand for Social Services. Keiki are allowed to live on the Beach and face the many forms of fear, anxiety and exploitation, abuse, neglect, lack of education and mental and physical molestation. New Public Housing is a back burner thought while $600,000 plus homes go up every day. The Feds had to come in and handle No Child and offer to take over the DOE, before they got the clue that, the behind, and disabled would be educated regardless. They offer a Certificate instead of a Diploma for those that are behind so that they can "WALK WITH THEIR CLASS'. Like a cheap date the Certificate is worthless the next day. (By the way the students have to pay fees in order to attend graduation that can range from $20 at the school, or $55 if held at the Blazedall. My Stepsons Alternative School held theirs at the Willows. Mom and I had a blast; he was already on the Mainland working. Here is how all this fits in the list goes on to, Social Services, Birth Control Education, and Planned Abortionhood being allowed to operate in Hawaii. Plus the lack of ability of the State to collect Child support, even though laws are in place so that they can do so. All of the above is aimed at the poor and mostly poor Hawaiians, and that is repression, subjugation, and raciest, and supports everything the Nation Builders Talk About. The only problem is that they cannot do nearly as well as the people in charge can do now. Now a Hawaiian can save his/her money buy a plane ticket and move to Las Vegas, find a low grade job, get an education at CCCC. Move into Management and have a nice life. Live in a Hawaiian enclave and talk about how they want to come back to Hawaii to retire and die. Why? Can?t they do that in Hawaii, because they cannot find the lower rent Apartment with or with out a roommate in Hawaii. Because the unit, does not exist.

Kimomakano: the truth is no matter what i explain you'll continue to have something to say about it, even if you're wrong. But why is your screenname Kimomakano? If you're going to use a Hawaiian name then inform yourself about Hawaiian issues before you talk to someone who really is Hawaiian. It's just a smarter thing to do. I would think you respected the truth from an obviously Hawaiian person, with a name like that. But okay whatever. [unquote] Dear kivismom, forgive for not realizing that YOU have a lock on the truth. I don't believe I claimed to be right, but that I would research it. YOU on the other had have already apparently all the knowledge and are above learning.
Why is my screen name kimomakano, why not, that is my name. Does it offend you somehow? Now you have resorted to disrespecting my name given to me by my parents.
Your quickness to assume and judge is exactly the type of arrogance that gives hawaiians a bad rap as being racist and hateful.
Since I don't know you I have no reason to doubt your sincerity or ancestry (as you have mine). What is troublesome is your unwillingness to have an open dialogue without turning it personal.
aloha....

AwesomeRon again another great post! And while I empathize with what the Hawaiians want to correct...the ramifications of what you speak of will be enormous and absolutely frightening to me. I must admit I do not know everything regarding this issue but the scenario you have presented brings the old adage to mind....Be careful what you wish for.

Thank you SweetP808. You can learn from the past, if you do not learn from the past then you are going to repeat the past. Problem is the out come can be vastly different. All Great Empires have fallen from without, do to decay from within. When the Central Goverment falls then Native Hawaiians will have a case for Nationhood. It is the 3rd of the Month today and you almost cannot get in the bank or the stores in Hawaii because of the people cashing this check or that check, all with U.S. Goverment on it. I do not have a large problem with that. VA Disability comes on the 1st so we get to beat the crowd. When they have the meetings regarding Nationhood and being independent they tend to drink a lot of Bud. Every now and then I hear about some item like MIlk, Bread, Chips, no longer being made in Hawaii, more and more we depend on the Mainland. 9/12 and 9/13 cured me of that habit. There is no silence greater then the no sound of the final approach to HIA with nothing coming. There is no sader sound then the sound of Hawaiian Cars starting up with the drivers ready and able to go panic buying. Panic buyers care only about panic themselfs. This kind of thing is where road rage and Racial Tension occur. When we have nothing better to come at some one with we tend to use Race, Gender, or Appearence and call people the ugly words that go with the ugly thoughts. If Hawaii becomes a Nation and its GNP can support it. Remember No Bennies from the U.S. Goverment. No Fleet to go meet, No Tripler, No Nex. Just Toursim and High Tech and Crops. No Federal Funds at all. I will gladly move back to Vegas. No enough of much is made here for what we need day to get by. With the cost of living here being so great evan most Hawaiian Keiki are no longer made in Hawaii. L&L has 150 plus stores for a reason, and its not all because people loved L&L food when they came to visit.

Well that doesnt really make sense. what do his lying about sexual relations and writing a letter apologizing to the hawaiian people have in common? the majority of people who voted for him were from the mainland, since hawaii makes up only a small percentage of the total population. Should I assume that those people are not to be trusted because they voted for a crooked politician, who lies about his personal affairs. Whatever-- when people don't have any defense against the truth, their desperation speaks for itself. Then they come up with silly ideas like, "oh wasnt he a liar"?
Fact of the matter is, yes it was ILLEGAL. Once you accept that fact things will be a lot easier to understand. It's when we make false judgements without knowing the truth about an issue--that's the real problem. Denial only breeds unsolved pain. I know the truth and thats what matters to me.

I have a question? If the Royal Hawaiians, wanted to Model After The English. Dress in Long Dresses and High Collars and ugly shoes.Takes lots of pictures and paintings of being Royal and Special. Yet did not have the Fire Power or Man Power to protect themselfs from an Invading Nation. If not the American Flag who's Flag would they have flown? Japan, Korea, Russian, Mexican, A South American Nation etc, would those people who did take over have allowed the Hawaiian Flag to fly beside their flag. Would they care about your enviroment, not go where your dead where baried or worshipped. Or care about you one way or the other Section 8, Food Stamps, Welfare, No Child, Healthcare, Housing, Voting Rights etc. Would there have been a Race left to have tension over. I think the Royal Hawaiians made a very wise choice and a very good deal. Hawaii became a part of and a partner with America (regardless of how). I look arond and see Roads, WalMart and about 2% unemployment. Thats negative 1 to 3 percent employmet dependiing on who you talk to. The average unployment on a Mainland Indian Reservation is 50% with or with out a Casino. Few Native Americans work in the Native American Casino, almost none in management. Whites/Blacks/Asians/Mexicans for the most part fill those jobs.
