Mufi wants to say "I left a legacy during my time in office" with the rail system. Does he really know how bad the rail system is? Does he not see the damage it does to the Aina? Not to mention the people who have to live anywhere near this system. He better ;listen more to the people and what is really needed then trying to force something down their throat. He going be like Harris and his book that didn't sell. Only the rail can't be thrown away. U.H. came up with a study, why not look into that? Why not spend the money on enlarging our current out-of-date freeway system with it's too many on and off ramps that are spaced too closely together that it impedes traffic rather than help. Also, upgrading the traffic lanes with yellow fluoreswcent paint so "I can see the lines when it rains", might not be a bad idea. Try using TV commercials to teach people how to drive on the freeways, like California did for years....might help to cutdown on the tailgters, speeders, slow drivers who don't know how to use the slow lane instead of holding up traffic and causing drivers to swerve around them to get ahead. Mufi, needs to really get stuck in traffic and look at all these things and how to remedy them instead of taking all our money for his "rail" system.

Mufi says that he has cleaned up the Public Parks on the Waianae Coast. HE HAS NOT. What he has done is clean up some of the more desirable areas. As you come into Waianae going West, Right across from the Sewer Treatment Plant is Sewer Beach, and it has what appears to be a semi permanent Homeless Camp. That should not be there. That is a decrease to the City Of Waianae, The County of Honolulu, and the State of Hawaii. There are also other areas before you get to Sewer Beach that have Tent Encampments. I realize that the Homeless have No Place to Go, however they should not be where they are. They are Squatting for the most part; also they are to close to the Waianae Mall and the Business at the Mall and on the edge of the Mall, business such as Pizza Hut, and Star Bucks Coffee and Burger King. Also to close to Mall Parking so a person does not want to leave their car unattended, or be pan handled by a crack head. If Mufi is going to clean up and make photo ops then he needs to clean up and close all the coast parks and beaches at night, or admit that he can't control the problem, partly because the HPD does not appear to always enforce the rules. Parks and other areas should be Closed at 10:30 PM except for permit camping. I would prefer a closing time of official sunset, as it is dark and poorly lighted in the areas. Also the areas are subject to stiff winds and high surf. I see stuff and Tents blowing around in the high winds all the time. To Mufti?s credit the main photo op area that was cleaned up looks nice. How would you like to drive into your home town everyday once or more then once and the first thing you get aside from the smells of the treatment plant, along with Pizza, Burgers, and now Coffee, to see is a homeless camp. What do you think that does to your pride in your home town, let alone your property values? There was an article in the H/A a few days ago about the new Star Bucks, they had just opened ahead of schedule and where giving out interviews and free samples.(the upside of that is that the business provides 17 new jobs mostly to locals). The reporter asked the Homeless Guy that came across the street for the free samples what he thought; he said ?as long as it?s free we will be here.? That in and of its self is a large part of the problem in a nutshell, the other problem of course being the almost non existence of affordable housing.

Mufi has a sewer and watertreatment problem that is his but does not belong to him. It belongs to Harris and those before him. Nor do the rotten pipes and most of the potholes. Nor most of the Homeless Problem. Most of that is from prior neglect years and years of neglect. That is what a lot of Dems do. Hand out and Neglect. I am not sure what Mufi is going to do about his problem but 300 dollars a month in twenty years for water and sewer fees, will cause me among lots of others to move mainland and greatly ease the houseing shortage. I can not afford to retire here reverse mortage or not, and I most certainly cannot afford to die. Stright in the Oven Cremation, no services no frills cost about $1,500 dollars. A decent plot and services and all the dings and things cost a 2nd Mortage. Have your situation known before you die. City has no City plot as far as I know. So not claiming the body does not help. I have told mine do it cheap, then Disneyland, Education, and Mission, not to the Vultures. You do not have to buy one of their Caskets. You can get your own online, or build your own. Makes a great family crafts project. The very expensive super seal does not keep you fresh longer, not that there is a need to. Decay comes from within.

I am really infuriated that they denied building a 2nd hospital on Maui. We really need one! It's unfair. I mean, all the islands are part of Hawaii, and represent Hawaii. Why are Maui's needs neglected?

I read an article in the H/A last week. The article said that City project to find and develop City Land with affordable housing was on hold because there was no one to run the program and no one could be hired to run the program until the city budget was approved. My wife and I sat and gave it about two moments of thought and came up with several ways to get around that block. We belived trhat the city could over come that if the city wanted to bad enough. It seems as though there is not enough concern and will to get things done with the Homeless/ Affordable Housing. Over the years I have heard of everything from Igloos to Ships, to converted Busses, to repairing and renovating units already built. So the city is not alone in this. Except for the show and tell shelters (and we are thankful for them)not much has happened. Projects and the people with jobs in homelessness never seem to get the projects actually done. The advocates seem to only to get up in arms when being up in arms seems right. At other times the pills of passifacation are at a low dose. It short it does not take much directly to them to get them to shut up. The end result of this is the people in need do not get served as well as they should. The latest big news I read about is that only a few familys at the shelter downtown have moved into housing and that there is a 60 family waiting list to get into the shelter. All and all I see a big case (except for Lingle) of we do not care, as long as the "not care is not biting us in the behind." It is because of articles that I read and what I see day to day, that I feel that the people in charge do not really care.In part because the Homeless for the most part don't vote, and when you want to do something the people that do vote and donate to campaigns complain, and do not want the programs or housing or people in their neighborhoods.

I have seen a lot worse!!! Mufi is doing still suffering from a lot of stuff that was going on when Mayor Harris was in office. There has been some good things happen, and some stuff that seems fairly easy to attend to has not come to pass. On the Westside we have the "Bridge To No Where",2 Million Dollars of Waste. On the up side the under part of the bridge is to steep for the Homeless to camp under. The Bridge is freshly paved and striped and there are No Pot Holes, there is a closing gate at each end to control the skaters and keep the Bridge nice and safe. The Stair Way To Heaven, which we paid over 1/2 Million Dollars to repair is still unopened. I guess if we wait long enough the Memory of the Stair Way will pass. My Son and I wanted to go up when he was 16 now he is 18. I will not go up till it is legal to do so. In the mean time the City is paying for Security to keep it closed. Which must cost $200,000 or more per year to accomplish. I am pro light rail, I don't think it will work but it will provide jobs, and look nice over the show and tell miles. I will most likely be dead by the time the first train runs anyway. Something Cronic will become acute, while I wait for the train and connecting Bus to take me to the ER. However progress will be made regardless of those that oppose it. You may not be able to walk up a flight of stairs on city property but, you will be able to ride several miles of rail. Which may be a good thing. Mufi by his very nature is not very aggressive. However he is sings real good and is far better then the other choice would have been..
