What is your favorite restaurant? What's the best place to get laulau or filet mignon?

Tell us where you like to eat, fancy or simple and why.

Xia Xia Waianae Mall, Waianae Hi. Its only been open a couple of months. The food rocks, every dish is to die for. My wife loves the Cream Cheese Crab Puffs. You can order dinner style or plate lunch style, two seperate pages on the Menu. Daily Specials. Most of all a very strong American Menu as well as the great Asian Food. Yesterday the wife had French Fries. Plus we split a Sweet and Sour Pork, and a Mongolin Beef and the Cream Cheese Puffs. This was about our 5th time there. Place can hold about 70-100 people has nice tables and is painted a cheery lime green and has comfortable wicker chairs. Big bay window faces the main parking lot of the mall. Of course take out and pans are available at good prices. Food looks as good as the pictures of the food. Family operated and they are open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Owner and staff are young and the energy shows.Still does not top my favorite but is a close 2nd and closer to home. Strong A/C and a Strong Speaker System that usually plays modern Hawaiian Music, but not to loud. A comfortable place to eat on the Westside.

Tried all different places - from $$$ ones to the local mom and pops type - and hands down it is the local mom and pops joints - It is just places which are just like dinosaurs - slowly being pushed to extinction.

Ethels in Kalihi, Tanioka's in Waipahu, Dreamers' a relatively new place in Downtown, Cinnamon's in Kailua, Laverne's in Waipahu - ...not to mention an oldie - more than 50 years in bizness...Liliha Bakery's coffee shop.

Todai's may be good - but so is Makino Chaya's -

Highway Inn - for one as well - places like this should be patronized -

They will all disappear like the King's Bakeries, Tropics Bakery - Ninth Avenue Bakery...Flamingo's ...

It is a dying almost "sacred"thing - to keep alive here -

It is a homey atmosphere they project - service and familiarity - and consistent quality -

My 3rd favorite place went out of business Family Chinese Take Out. A victim of progress and a new mall and food court to include several Asian Food heavy hitters. To include L&L and Panda Express. So some of the best food on the Island is gone as well as a very nice family. Mahalo for your fine food and service. Replacing them on the list is a take out place in the food court of the Down Town Dahi Market. They have Shrimp Broccli and Pot Roast to die for and the noodles are real good. Down side is the birds are somewhat agressive but that what eating down town and out side gets you.

Here in Hilo it's Cafe Pesto, The Kilauea Lodge in Volcano. On Maui, Mama's Fish House in Kuau, The Waterfront in Maalaea, Hula Grill in Kaanapali...and one of the best kept secrets is The Garden Cafe in Kahului.

The best hamburger I ever had was at Tanigawa's, on the island of Lanai.

Ahh 2006. My favorite restaurants are many that feature "professional wait staff" as a major component in the fine dining experience. Having been a waiter myself 30 years ago (5 years), I've noticed one too many occasion where there is an L.A. mentality in which a young waiter will try to converse by reciting his(mostly the dudes) life story (i.e. I'm going to blah, college and working part time as blah, blah..My family is blah). Myself and date try to be courteous and listen (tolerantly), but shaking our heads later realizing this dumbo doesn't realize that we came out to enjoy each other's company and the waiter's good day or bad day is irrelevent.

In other words, describe the special, but spare us the "personal-I've got a script-and am an actor," Drivel.
