The Honolulu City Council has moved forward with a plan to hike sewer fees, the vehicle weight tax, the rent for Neal Blaisdell Center, and while not techinically a hike, the property tax rates will remain the same, but values are up translating into a big increase in how much property owners pay.

Give your take on the increases.

Are there government cuts you would make? What changes would you suggest?

... just a thought - we are already charged for the HI 5 - which is for recycled plastics ? Does ANYONE know where all this money is being funneled to ? It is a heckuva lot of money and no one can tell me what has been done with all the money collected thus far -

Would be interesting to know - anyone did any digging ? Probing ?

I have written to many government agencies - officials and News agencies - investigative reporters and no one "seems " to know - hmmmmm . Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

Kinda like this amazing rail system - hidden costs where no one has come out and said anything -

The City Council has a heckuva lot of proposals for as Gary Okita has said for being creative to get money -

why not try something else instead of overtaxing folks -

they are presently saying - that rubbish collection costs a lot - they will have to start charging for the rubbish pickup etc -

Look instead for ways to work much more efficiently .....

You would be amazed to see how government runs or "doesn't run" -

We already are paying SO much -we already pay a lot for property taxes -

BICie out

Ron - what about the taxes you've already paid out that got funneled away who-knows-where? This rail thing is so bogus it's rediculous. Not only is there NO plan drawn up whatsoever, the whole thing sounds flakey.

Take a look at a real reform proposal that creates fair local taxes for everyone. The industrial revolution started here in Rhode Island and we hope the Property Tax Revolution will too.

Property Tax: The tax you pay according to what new home buyers can afford

Quote: The mayor said he is unable to reduce Honolulu's current property tax rates because he needs the revenue for outstanding city bills.

Okay, so why does the City have 'outstanding bills'? Is former Mayor Harris' retirement pay among the things the City pays out? Well, I'm all for cancelling that!! It's all too easy just to raise taxes. Let's see some creative and constructive WORK done by the current administration(s) to alleviate this mess instead of taking the easy way out.

The only Tax that is equal is Sales Tax. Tax at the point of purchase effects all the same. Maybe I will have only 1 Car and that will lower my car insurence as well. When my keiki get old enough to drive they can work and get their own cars. They have Bus Passes now. 20 dollars per month X 2. However it gives them the freedom to get around as they need to. As Gas goes up more people will take Da Bus. Which is a very interesting way to travel lately. When more money is spent on Taxes less is spent on everything else. NEX will become more and more the place to shop. Most of us will just shut up and pay up. It could be much worse. Some people might evan have to cancel their cable or at least go back to broadcast basic. Going back to AOL will also save money. Making a choice between your Cell line and your regular phone line. Making you Cell phone your only phone. That saves money and Tax. I don't want to see Casinos for many reasons. I would like to see a Lottery. Only US and Utah do not have one. I can understand Utah but not Hawai'i. Plus the folks in Utah can always go to the neighbor states, and buy multi week tickets. A 6/28 or a 6/32 plus being hooked into a multi state lottery. Would be good and the States Cut on both sales and Tax on the winners wold add much needed funds. The No folks claim everything from Moral Values to Lack Of Self Control. Those that don't want to buy won't. Just like those that don't shop or do business on Sunday don't just because the stores open. Just because the stores open does not mean you must go in. Mahalo

If the money is used wisely to make the much needed repairs and improvements then I am more then willing to pay. They must however realize that lots of people are already maxed out. I see more of the native population being priced out of their own Island. Only to be replaced with peoples with less ties to the land and thus less respect. This dried up woman got interviewed on another station the other night. She was complaining bitterly becouse she is a bitty. That the big items were not being picked up fast enough to please her. That "she lived in a gated community and that they had alot of rules." Now her complaint was ligit. It was just the person with the message. So maybe if her taxes on her gated property go up. The stuff will get picked up. Out where I live we just put it out and wait sometimes for weeks. However we also have gates, but itsto keep the dogs in etc. Our only rules are the normal laws. We do not burden ourselfs with any more and we do not hide behind walls. Our taxes will go up also but we will have alot more fun. Mahalo
