The 2005 Legislature starts their session with hopes of controlling the soaring cost of housing and other economic issues.

What would you like to see addressed? What do you think of some of the issues the lawmakers face?

Saw a repeat on cable of the final Tuesday legislative session. And some legislators had fan faces of Chad Taniguchi in front of their desks which apparently didn't upset decorum. Was that their silent vote for a new president? I think one of the cardboard faces was in front of a Republican senator also.

Kindest regards

I am sick and tired of people whining on the news and other places about the legislature raising taxes. They must be stupid or have a very short-term memory. Don't they remember it was they who continually vote the idiots or members of the idiots party into power at the legislature. If they want change try giving power to the other party for a change and see what they can do. Otherwise if you voted for the same old same old, why expect anything to change.

The best thing that can be said about the 2005 Legislature session is that it is OVER. They did some good things like approve the $40 million for pier improvements so the Super Ferry (H-4) can get started. A lot of time seemed to be spent trying to limit Gov. Lingles power. Which they had nothing against when the the Dems had the Goverment. Gov Lingle has done a great job considering what she has to work with. I think that Rent Caps should have been in place instead of Gas Caps. Hawaiians are being driven into the street and to the mainland because they cannot afford to live here, evan under the most scum baggy of conditions. It was not the worst session ever held, and the alternative of having the person that Gov Lingle ran in Office would have been unthinkable. Maybe the next time the Dems will put someone up for Gov that can understand, and get along with the Native Hawaiian People and come out of their Asian Landed Gentry mode. Hawaii gets it from the East and the West and must always try to choose the best.

Re: A data base for the weight of teachers? That's the most ignorant proposal I've heard in 50 years.

Gee..if Pavorati doesn't make the weight cut does that mean he can't teach the music class?

Well too late to introduce bills now. But final comment on animals eaten bills. Someone once spoke about dog meat stew being a healthy stew for husbands in Korea. It's like medicinal and luxury item. So eating dog meat in Asia isn't a sign of poverty and hunger. And certainly not a stigma for them; although others in audience didn't seem interested in trying it.

Maybe a redefinition of the term part time worker. It is so non-Aloha to hire someone for 19 hours and not offer benefits. Maybe if you mean part time, you should really mean part time - like 10 to 13 hours; maybe 15 hours and over should include partial benefits and privileges. Stress impacts health and well being; if you don't care enough for your part time employees, maybe you shouldn't have any.

Here are some of the issues I would like to see addressed. 1. Schools a. Much better pay for teachers. b. Better P.E. c. More afterschool and remedial work. 2. Dropouts. a. Connect droping out to the drivers license until age 18 or evan 21. You drop from school you don't get a ticket to drive. 3. The Homeless. Work on solving the problem as well as feeding and housing the problem. I will go into this deeper in another post. 4. Protection of Native Hawaiian Rights. 5. Amend the Sexuaal age of consent LAW from 16 with a five year age spread to 16 with a 3 year age spread. Enforce the law as it is now on the books. Make social services agencys required to report and the police required to enfore the law and arrest offenders. I want to keep adults off our young girls both Hawaiian and evan more so the military. I used to care about cultural norms etc, etc. However I now see enforcement as vital accross the board. The social service agency thing has to do with. The girl or boy might not be able to say yes but the parents do say yes buy not doing anything about the situation. If the teens want to do the teens then not a whole lot can be done about that but we can keep the adults at bay until age 18 is reached. 6. Traffic, there is simply to much for the Island to manage. We could get large portions of the Military to go home but then there would be no jobs. So its between a rock and a hard place. a. Limit the number of Cars b. Limit the number of Drivers. c. 1 DUI Strike your out. 7. Seven but also 1st Abortion, restricting and or banning. Abortion is murder one with intent nothing else. However I usually see the Mother as a victim of a society with a pro murder agenda. Choice end at the moment of conception. Adption is the option. 8. Adoption. Make it easyier. Many won't adopt because State Social Services is the Agency from Hell. Same goes for foster parenting. Many would foster parent but State Social Services is the Agency from Hell. 8. Look into Bussines/Trade Schools and how they advertise and operate in Hawai'i 9. Streets and Pot Holes. 10. Mass Tranportation the Oil is Running Out.Rail is not the answers. We need anti-gravity people movers and we need them NOW.

I agree with upidstay. They must have back bone and make things better. Not just pontifacate that they are Dems and really run things and Gov. Lingle won't get anything passed. They must be much more pro active.

I think the issue that much of the legislature needs to address is getting a backbone and start making some tough decisions instead of blocking bills because of who's party will or won't be the perceived beneficiary. Stop playing partisan politics and make decisions.
