A couple in Virginia has been charged with felony child endangerment after a neighbor videotaped their 3-year-old son playing with one of their guns. The video showed the boy playing with a pistol. Neighbors said his parents were target practicing nearby while drinking alcohol. The parents said the gun was not loaded and the boy was in no danger. Neighbors disagreed; they said the video tape is disturbing. Others questioned why the neighbor did not put down the camera and take the gun from the boy. What do you think the neighbor should have done?

I feel the parents were not responsible in their actions...drinking ,guns ,and a child don't mix. As for the neighbor ,she did what she should call the law enforcement. When people don't get involved ,that is when we get the horrible news of a childs death. That's when people ask "why didn't someone get involved". The kindergarten days of "not tattling " need to be changed. When a childs wellfare is involved ,we need to get involved.

I agree with Momz03 the child is too young to get a true picture of the harm that a firearm can do. The parents are wrong to let a child that young play with a weapon. The thing they should have done is let the child play with a toy gun and try to teach from that aspect. Not to give a three year old a real gun. I?m sorry.

I believe that if thie nosy neighbor, and the police would have actually looked at what was going on in this situation all of the unnecessary harm that was caused to this family could have been avoided. Has anyone in this nation never drank a beer on a hot summer day? Doesn't the video show that the gun was unloaded by the child's father? So then, how was this child put in felony danger? Sounds like a good for nothing neighbor who really didn't give a d--- what happened to the child and another case of an overzealous prosecutor that doesn't have anything better to do than try to ruin innocent people's lives.

Well to start, the neighbor should have been minding her OWN business and not spying and filming these people. The 3 y/o's parents clearly erred and nobody can argue that point. But this is SO overblown. You could choose 10 homes at random, spy with a hidden camera and carefully edit and or choose 20 seconds of footage out of context and likely get a child neglect/abuse charge out of 3 of the 10. I'd a lot rather live beside a FAMILY with a Smith & Wesson than a psychotic with a SONY.

One would wonder why the neighbor would even be taping the happenings of their neighbors in the first place? I feel that if this person felt that the child was in danger perhaps she should have dropped the camera and made an attempt to either try to have the child put the gun down or somehow made someone else aware that the child may have been in danger. Is it against the law to tape someone without their permission?

The story was not clear if the neighbor was in the area where the child was or if he was video taping from a distance. Nevertheless, the parents were near by with loaded guns and drinking alcohol. I would not have put myself in that position. It is apparent that the parents are wreckless....SO would you take the gun away from someone elses child who was intoxicated and had a loaded gun??
It makes you think, -Poca

If you are going to have a gun in a home, you MUST teach gun safety to your children. 3 yrs ols is too little to be "playing" with a gun and understand the meaning of the gun. What happens the next time this child sees one and it is not unloaded. He/she will have no clue they can't play with it. The chances that he/she may kill someone or themselves is just too great!
