Former Carolina Investors president Larry Owen says he did not know CI was going to go bankrupt until it was too late to stop it, and he is a victim just like the 8,000 people who lost money in the collapse. Yet so far, he's the only one under indictment. What do you think?

Does anyone know what sentences Larry and Anne Owen received?

I think that both Larry Owens and Earle Morris were "greedy" people wanting nothing more than to save their huge salaries. It's my understanding that Larry Owens was still drawing a $90,000+ salary after CII closed it's doors. WHY????????? I had a debenture to be renewed the week CII closed it's doors and no one informed my family of it's closing the doors. WHY???? I'm thankful that I have a job and can recover some of my losses. My heart goes out to all the retired people that lost their entire life savings. The entire company and all personnel involved were VERY misleading. Hopefully, justice will be served to all involved.

Why is this so hard for everybody to figure out? Home Gold owned CII and told them what to do. The directors of CII were lied to by HG. They believed in the companies and trusted the directors of HG. How could they know what was going on with HG books? Can't you see Earle Morris was used and set up by his good name? Why would an honorable man wait until he was 75 after all the good he did for S.C. wait until now to try to deceive investors? Think about it. What would even be the purpose? He enjoyed being in his hometown with all the people he loved and helped over the years and being with his children and believed in HG as he was involved with CII for many years when Dwight Holder started the company. Wasn't it always profitable and didn't the investors always get a good return on their money? Why would, all of a sudden he decide to deceive them and ruin his reputation he worked his life for. This has devastasted Earle Morris and he may never get through this knowing in his heart, he did nothing to deceive anybody. How terrible do you think he feels because of the loss of the investors money and what do you think this is doing to him and his family. He believed and was told the money was safe and lost his own money in the company. You are going after the wrong people and need to start with the past directors of HG. Mr. McMasters doesn't know what he is doing accusing an innocent man and trying to ruin the rest of his life. We should all stand up for Earle Morris and know he is innocent by the long outstanding record he has in state government. Look at all he has done to help people in this state and never obtained any personal wealth from it. Find one thing he did wrong and send it in. God will bring justice to this horrible situation and I pray all of you with Christian hearts will get behind the innocent people and defend them to bring the real criminals to justice.

The ones who claim Larry is a villian, obviously do not know him personally. The ones who know he was just as much a victim in this ordeal as the rest of us who lost our savings, have it right on target. The ones of you who "knew his face" have absolutely no room to call judgment...b/c if you truly knew him you would know his devotion to his family, job and staff. His family, including he & his wife, lost money...I agree with some of the other posts, you would think if he had known something like this was coming down the pipe he would have taken at least his money...no, that is not who he is. He believed in Carolina Investors and the HomeGold bunch enough to allow his savings to draw the same interests that all of ours drew...for the same reasons. Do you not think that after sinking 33 years into his career that at 60 he was anticpating retirement and traveling just like many of you? Do you think that he anticipated his career, insurance, reputation, EVERYTHING to be destroyed because he believed the "higher-ups"? You people need to look further than him...I hope the ones of you who have posted here that are Christians allow the Lord to soften your hearts. I have prayed that since day one. To soften the hearts of all the angry, bitter people and let them do what the Bible tells us...lift one another up and not tear down (the newspaper and other media do enough of that for everybody). If all you know about Larry is what you've read and saw on tv, there is a lot more than that to him.

FINALLY, SOMEONE HAS POSTED THE TRUTH. READ THE POST BELOW BY RHINONOMOR! They have to be an insider, because this is exactley what happened. I can tell by these posts and by listening to people around town that many of you are hurting. But, you should be careful about throwing blind accusations around.

This whole thing is going in the wrong direction and has from the beginning. Home Gold owned Carolina Investors and they are responsible for the loss of the money. They lied to Carolina Investors and the people who worked for them believed in them. Carolina Investors had no idea of the financial situation Home Gold was in and how could they with papers put in front of them with lies. Why would Don Bobo lose 2 million dollars if he knew the company was going under? He was on the board and didn't know it. Wake up people and realize what is going on here. Stop blaming Carolina Investors and go after Home Gold. The lives of the directors of Carolina Investors have been ruined and they did nothing wrong. They are so sorry for the loss of the investors money, but had nothing to do with the loss. They were lied to and Earle Morris was set up to use his good name. Can't you all figure this out? Go after Home Gold!

there are many people at fault. first off, the executive management team of homegold that coerced larry to fund their operations. second is larry for not protecting the investors. third is earle morris, who along with larry, consistently lied to investors and told them their money was safe. i do not care if larry and earle say they were ignorant of the fact that homegold was in financial trouble. the financials of homegold were public documents that they had access too, along with all investors. they failed in their responsibility of doing what was ethically best for their investors. the last group of people at fault are the investors themselves. why put all of your savings in a company that is not insured. the prospectus given to investors showed the debt homegold owed cii. this was not a secret. the investors put their trust in two men who were well known in the community. larry and earle abused that trust, and so did the homegold executives. the attorney general knew of the financial status of homegold at renewed cii's ability to take in new deposits. alot of people are to blame.

All of the board members past and present of CI and Homegold should be held responsible for the investors losses. They should be made to liquidate their assets and live exactly the way they expect the investors who lost everything to live. But there is no justice, and the rich, powerful, and irresponsible will continue to play the good ole boy system and get away with it.

You know what makes me sick....you people and others in this community have already convicted this man. What happened to one of the founding principles of our country "innocent until proven guilty". For an area that probably has more "christians" per capita it is amazing the hatred, bitterness, and unchristian like attitudes. We have courts let them decide.

I believe Larry Owen was very much aware as to the status of CI and HG and ordered employees to give the run around to customers. My 82 year old mother tried to get info after my fathers death as to the status of thier account and was told everything was fine, but could not obtain any other info. This was 3 weeks prior to the closing of doors. I have sold my home in order to care for her. The loss extends far beyond the investors. Home Gold execs need to be accountable also.
