On July 3, new laws went into effect, making it mandatory for drivers to put children under 6 into car seats or booster seats. It also allows officers to pull over cars if they see passengers under 18 not buckled up. Do you think the new law is too broad? Should drivers be responsible for their teen-age passengers? Who should get the ticket when a 16-year-old passenger with a driver's licensed is not wearing a seat belt?

i am able to sit here and write this because i was NOT wearing my seat belt! i was told by both the paramedics and police that i would have literally been cut in half by my belt if it would have been on. i will continue to not wear my belt and will grudingly pay any tickets i get. i am sick of "for your own good" laws. i will decide whats in my best interest and believe that everybody else should also.

EVERYONE SHOULD WEAR SEATBELTS!!! THEY HAVE SAVED MY LIFE TWICE! I HAVE HAD FRIENDS DIE IN WRECKS B/C THEY DIDN'T HAVE THEIR SEATBELT ON! I THINK THE DRIVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PASSANGER AND SHOULD THEREFORE BE FINED IF ANYONE IN THE CAR ISNT PROPERLY RESTRAINED... NOT JUST CHILDREN! I WILL NOT EVEN START MY CAR UNLESS EVERYONE IN THE CAR HAS THEIR SEATBELT ON! IF THEY DONT LIKE IT... THEY CAN DRIVE THEMSELVES!

I THINK KIDS SHOULD BE BUCKLED UP AT ALL TIMES AS WELL AS ADULTS . I ALSO THINK ADULTS SHOULD PAY A FINE FOR NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES

Yes I think everyone should wear seatbelt because they say it saves lives , but they say helmets save cyclist lives , and the law says its their option if above 18 .

When you choose not to wear your belt and are injured, who pays your bills? How much insurance coverage do you have? Do you even know the costs associated with a typical head injury? Why do people choose not to educate themselves?

No, the law is not too broad. The driver of the vehicle should be responsible for it's passengers whether they're one day old, or one hundred years old. The laws of this land are not for an inconvenience to us, we need to trust GOD, and obey HIM. As we do this then we can see that how obedience to the authority that HE places over us is for our good. The driver should receive the ticket for disobeying the law if he/she allows a passenger to ride without buckling up.

I think that if I am 21 years of age, or older, I should be able to decide whether or not to wear a seat belt. Children (infant until legal age) should be put in the proper seat belts and car seats. To me the government is going a little to far in telling me what I can and cannot do. If I choose not to wear a seat belt, or a helmet for that matter, who is it hurting other than me?

I think the seatbelt laws are just another example of insurance companies having a stranglehold on law-enforcement in South Carolina. Whether they save lives or not is highly debatable, as death or injury has occurred anyway, even on account of seatbelt restraint. It is NOT about child-safety or motorist safety. If it was, then law-enforcement would make sure that the state required seatbelts in school buses and helmets for motorcycle riders, so we don't see brain matter splattered on the road or windshields. Seatbelt laws make for easy money for law-enforcement in South Carolina, as road cops stick their noses in our windshields during "license-checks".

When I get into any vehicle I always put on my seat belt. I feel unsecured not wearing it. Your safety factor is drastically improved. Are the physics of a rollercoaster and a vehicle similar? You expect to be secured in a roller-coaster, why not your vehicle? Both moving upwards of 70 m.p.h.. Be Safe not Sorry!
