Hey Carol,
Congrats on your success. I'm battling my way to a fitter lifestyle right now and have to say it's been tough. But thanks to your story and the resources I'm finding on this site I feel like I have the tools I need to reach my goals. But I have to admit, I still love pizza and beer!
I'm taking advantage of the low carb beers, which isn't too bad, but there has to be a pizza diet out there somewhere??? Anyone heard of one? How tasty are those Lean Cuisine meals?

Hi Carol, I am a 40 year old Paramedic in Western NC. Since entering into this field full-time and working 24 hours shifts I have gained 35 - 40 pounds and am like you were....uncomfortable and heavier than I have ever been. I was 118 pounds 4 years ago and that was after having 4 kids! We are an unhealthy group of people because of the hours, fast food and sedentary lifestyle between emergency calls...I am inspired and excited to begin this diet as soon as my order arrives...I will let you know how it goes. Emergency workers and their health habits would make a great story.

I have lost 20 pounds since January. That is when my grandson was born!
I've been so busy holding him, and looking at his beautiful smile, that I haven't thought about food. I did not realize I had lost weight until a friend pointed it out to me one day.
I guess Love can conquer all!
Mother of three beautiful girls and a new grandmother to a beautiful baby boy born in January.

I, too, am a Paramedic (in Upstate SC) who works 24 hours shifts. I have been a paramedic for 10 years. I have gained 75 pounds in that 10 years (plus having 2 kids along the way didn't help). I am struggling to lose the weight now, but it is hard especially with the way I work. Good luck to you in your quest to lose the extra weight!

Eating Out Sensibly. I would like to see you do a list of the worst and best dieter friendly and unfriendly restaurants for those of us who are trying to loose weight. My daughter and I decided to stop in at the Ryan's on White Horse Rd this past Wednesday for a salad for dinner. It was around 5:30 pm. We were informed as we placed our order that they no longer serve salads after 5pm. The only way to get a salad is to order the mega bar. Well we decided to do that figuring we would eat our salad and fix our plates from the hot food bar and take it with us and have it for lunch the next day.. Well when we finished our salad and asked the waitress to bring us a to go box for our food, we were informed that Ryans no longer gives to go boxes for their mega bar, so you have to eat everything at the table. The only way you can get a to go box there is to order a steak or baked potato. Like I said before we did not find this out until we were ready to leave. So for dieters Ryan's restaurant's are definitely not dieter friendly. Maybe a list of best and worst restaurants would help a lot of us that eat out.

Last year I used the "6 Week Body Makeover" diet to lose 85 pounds over a 6 month period. On this diet I ate 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. I ate a lot of protein, complex carbohydrates, vegetables, and fruit. I made most of my own meals, but I also had very little trouble eating out.
