A woman was left for four nights in a holding cell in the Washington County courthouse. The bailiff who was responsible has been suspended for 30 days without pay. Was that an appropriate punishment? Should the county make restitution to the woman? Leave your comments on our message board.

She was here illegally, she had committed felonies, she should have been deported immedittaly. the ballif should have been written a letter of repermand and that should have been it.

I feel bad for the women but she is here illegaly and I feel that more than just the bailiff should be held responsible, why didn't the jail notice her missing when they done there head counts or when they all came back from court? This was a horrible mistake and it shows that r system is overloaded and under staffed. I feel no one should have to go through that but people need to quit putting the blame all on the bailiff and I don't think this should effect her being in trouble for being here illegaly she should still have to be responsible for that

The bailiff would have received a harsher penalty if he had left a dog penned up in there without food and water for four days. Its obvious when it comes to following the law its makes a difference who you are and who you know.Regardless if he had done it on purpose or not he should have been terminated or received more time off. This women should be fully compensated.Regardless of this womens crimes you don't punish someone before they are tried,if that were the case we would be lynching people. My advice to her is hire an attorney.

She is here illegally and yes that is an issue in itself. She's breaking the law yes. However, I do not feel that what she got was deserved. Her life was put in danger, what if the building would have caught fire? No one would have known to tell emergency persononal where she was. She could have died from dehydration. What if she was on medication that was needed for her health? What if this would have been yourdself, your sister, aunt, mother or daughter. How frightening and tramatic for this human being. What if she would have had a heart attack, asthma attack etc. As far as the baliff? Well, I am forgetful as well. So I pray to God that I wou,ld not ever forget that severly. However, if him forgetting is counted as no big deal. Then what about parents who have forgotten thier children in a hot car or car seat and claimed it slipped thier mind. Should they all be made free? I am trying to figure out how you forget someone that long??? (Maybe it can happen? I don't know!)

This woman was already breaking the law by being in this country illegally. If she had not been sneeking around like the common criminal she is, none of this would have happened. She being an illegal had her charges dropped, I doubt if this had happened to an American the charges would have been forgiven. Since she didn,t have to go back to jail, the bailiff shouldn,t have any punisnment.

Yes, 30 days without an income in todays world is punishment enough, especially when this woman was only in the court system due to her "crimes". No, I don't believe she should get any restitution, again because she would have never been there in the first place had she not committed serious crimes. But most importantly the "charges" against this woman should not be dropped...one must learn at some point in life that our actions today may lead to hardships tommorrow, after all there are many criminals who get mistreated (some deliberately) by and or in the "system" but it seems to me that this is only a "big deal" because she is an immigrant, which I feel is an outrage and a swift slap in the face to those of us who call this country "our homeland"...I say illegals get away with far to much to begin with just being here without doing it legally for instance, and odds are if she can't speak english, she is not here legally...Did she care about that? no only about being caught, did she care about the people she was stealing and profiting from? again no or she would not have been doing it in the first place...okay so she pleaded not guilty (lots of guilty people do that)still the bottom line here is she made her own bed, she should have to lay in it, no matter how bumpy it gets. If she is indeed not in this country legally she should have no rights in America, as that is a special privelege reserved for American CITIZENS, or least that what we were taught all our lives..Its time to stop letting the Mexican government tell us what rights their illegal immigrants in this country "must" get.

If she was in jail and released to the bailiff to appear in court why didn't somebody at the jail start asking questions when she was not returned to the jail after court and they did not receive paperwork showing she was released on bail? Sounds to me like other people who were responsible for this woman also dropped the ball. How come nobody is questioning this?

Anyone that forgets a person in a holding cell has no right to have their job back. How would he have liked it?If a police officer of wrong doing been put in a holding cell for four days there would have been no questions asked about whether or not the bailiff should lose his job, yes he should lose it. I can see forgetting someone for maybe an hour, but for four days? There is no excuse for this. This lady is a person not an animal. The bailiff needs to be put in the county jail for six months for negligence and lose his job.

thankyou linda bailey
