Neighbors on one side of 8 Mile Road think a racetrack would bring too much noise and cause a disturbance in their living environment, while others think the racetrack would bring much needed redevelopment to an underserved area. What do you think?

I laugh at those who are complaining about the noise, Try living next to a freeway for your whole life, like I. Whats more I work in that area and all I see is a bunch of run-down buildings along Eight Mile in need of something that can cause owners to start caring for these buildings. Whats the point in complaining about the noise? You live in an area that has alot of traffic and whats the difference if the race takes place over a weekend? Look at the fairgrounds right now, talk about run down. The only time the place looks great is in August.

Can someone please tell me, Why the neighbors around the woredown fairgrounds doesn't want an event like that on one weekend a year? You neighbors complain about traffic, okay, I've driven down Campbell and Eight Mile during when the fair is going and I see no traffic. The only noise I hear is from Eight Mile and not from the fair itself.

Lets get it together people, You live in the heart of traffic and run-down buildings but you are either not paying attention on whats going on around your neighborhood or you are living in a fantasy world that traffic and noise are not in your neighborhood. Someone that lives in the neighborhood please respond!

BRING THE RACE TO THE FAIRGROUNDS!

I'm sorry, I just don't see what the "noise" argument is all about. If the race is moved to the fair grounds, we're talking one weekend a year, maybe 2 if they can get NASCAR to race there. It's a choice that the citizens of Detroit have to make--do they want to continue living in a city that everyone is abandoning and letting go to ruins, or put up with a little inconvienence and allow for the start of the revitalization of the city that they claim to love? I'm sure that if the residents of the nearby neighborhood were given discounted or free passes to the races, they would be all for it. Quit spitting in the faces of those that are trying to help the city. The "pride" of some of the citizens of Detroit is truly sickening.

I believe it was Pepperann that said during the fair every year they can smell and hear everything in the areas adjacent to the fair grounds. Which was there first, you or the fair. I honestly doubt you were. You would have had to know before you moved into the area what the fair gounds were and that during the fair or other engagements that it would be loud. So if you wanted peace and quite, you should have picked a different location/neighborhood.

I am not a race fan, but I listen objectively to the arguments and the neighborhood arguments are not proven at all. It has been proven that the noise level from the cars would be less then when the fair is in "full tilt". Also one of the first objections was pollution. These cars use clean burning methanol. The emit less pollution than your family cars does. I though most perople wanted to revitalize the city, but everytime it comes to something being done, there is always a group that objects for one reason or another. Most of the time the objections are totaly unfounded as in this case.

Excuse me, but if the people complaining about the 'noise and smell' want total peace and quiet, why are they living in the middle of a major urban area? Go to most of the cities around metro Detroit and you wll find entertainment, industry and just plain traffic making noise. Why is it when the city of Detroit is presented with a viable, private enterprise plan to renovate the city, boost it's image and create jobs, that a vocal minority pipe up about 'preserving the city'? I think we've all seen too many developers scared off, pushed out and sued over trivial and illogical concerns by a minority of residents. It's no wonder it's so hard to attract businesses and JOBS to the city when people are so selfish, illogical and pigheaded to realize that someone is trying to help the city and it's citizens. As for noise, is anyone living in the area proposing that Eight Mile or Woodward be re-routed to protect the Eden-like tranquility of the neighborhoods around the State Fairgrounds? Or is anyone proposing an alternative to development of the Fairgrounds into a World-Class facility? The only alternative I can see being pushed forth is the status quo for too much of Detroit already- neglect, abandonment, decrepitation and misuse or non-use. Wake up Detroiters- no one is going to wave a magic wand and change this city into a paradise! The people need to be willing to work with developers who are trying to invest their hard-earned money in the city! Quit spitting in the face of the very people who can help you!

Bottom line_______! it"s a good thing first off look at the area its a dump..junkies, hookers, crack houses among the batch of good homes..and people dumping off there rubbish every where they can ..including abandoned cars...if anything i think people in the neighborhood shouldn't protest it because of noise please........... instead use it as a trump card with the city to clean and better patrol the area or the private sector handling the fairgrounds.....and i seriously hope people don't believe that property value will decline. again please........!

I don't understand why anybody would try to force a Racetrack down the City's Throat. If the City of Detroit doesn't want a Racetrack build it somewhere else. If this is such a great Idea I'm sure dozens of cities will line up for the Opportunity.

THEY SAY THAT THE NOISE WILL DISTURB THE NEIGHBORS. which one's, the one's in the cemetary on the Woodward side, the one's in the worn out abandon houses on the State Fair Road side....Or the existing Race Track on Eight Mile Road???

Why the secrecy in signing the lease? Why a 50 year lease? Whose really behind the lease that a provision was put into it that required a race track to be built? Why would a government owned agency secure a lease without a public bid process? Too many unanswered questions for my liking! Had the process been more open, with multiple parties having an opportunity to bid for the lease... perhaps it would have community support. We would all like to see additional uses of the State Fairgrounds, but not this way! The whole process appears rotten, and that's from someone who attempts to stay well informed!
