Authors of a new book said that sometimes children become troubled and violent despite being in loving, supportive families.

The authors spoke exclusively with the parents of Dylan Klebold, one of the two students responsible for the Columbine massacre.

Do you agree? Do bad kids sometimes happen to good families? Can you as a parent do anything about the constant bombardment of influences (friends, media, society)? Or are certain children born with a violent temperment? Can your efforts be reversed when your child is a teen and rebels against you?

What do you do as a parent to make sure that you are raising your child right?

the kids were old enough to know what they were doing yes pore parenting can contribuet but inreality people are truly borne with sertian traits and with their surroundings molding them the parents only are 1% the teachers ,kids at school,tv shows, friends, movies, music, people bumping into the kids on the street ,anything can help mold a persons personality and differnt people reackt to the same situation differnt ways the kids taht killed were at fault and thats that americans allways want somebody to blame like with the herricain this was natuer but they are truying to blame people

I find it appalling that we always try to blame everyone but the person who perpetuates the act.

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed people at Columbine. Whose fault is it that those people were killed? Eric's amd Dylan's. Period.

If Harris and/or Klebold suffered from bad parenting, whose fault is it that their parents were bad? Their parents.

But did the parents kill people at Columbine? No. Did Eric and Dylan? Yes. Whose fault is it people were killed at Columbine? Eric's and Dylan's.

Every person you come in contact with during any given day can affect any number of outcomes. But there is no way to quantify in any type of real scientific manner (other than just good old guessing) that would allow you to place blame on ANYONE but the person who carried out the act.

It's not a difficult concept to grasp.

Somebody breaks into my house. Who is to blame? Myself for having a house? No. The burglar's kindergarten teacher who didn't like him and snubbed him when it came to giving out extra cookies at snack time? No. The burglar? Yes.

Are we catching on yet?

Society today is to blame for children's behavior. Children are bombarded by television and musical artists that commit crimes and espouse crimes. They are urged by their peers to do things they know are wrong. Parents can only do so much.

Judges are too lenient on children. There should be consequences to actions. Shame is a shaping force of the conscience; but today if a parent shames a child it is abuse. Children that commit minor crimes should be forced to do things that help others and the community. They should become involved with the less fortunate or the maimed to know that life isn't fair; but despite everything it can be good and we all make our own choices in life no matter the age. Only the small child below 7 or 8 is truly innocent and even then many of those know how to lie to get what they want. It's just not an easy situation to blame a parent for.

INFLATION! OUR GOV'T SHOULD HELP SUBSIDIZE FAMILIES TO KEEP ONE PARENT HOME SO CHILDREN AREN'T PUT INTO DAY CARE CENTERS. CHILDREN NEED THEIR PARENTS IN THE FIRST SEVERAL YEARS, HUGS AND CARING "IN THE INFORMATIVE YEARS". I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GROW UP WITH MOM STAYING HOME, WHEN YOU HAD A BAD DAY AT SCHOOL IT WAS NICE TO HAVE HER HOME TO "VENT" TO, GET REASSURANCE THINGS WILL GET BETTER, NOTHING LIKE A HUG FROM MOM VS. SOME STRANGER IN A DAY CARE CENTER.

Easy question. The child himself and his parents for not bringing him up better than that. C'mon, this is obvious.

Instead of accusing games, television, and the news lets figure out an answer to the problem. Possibly most kids today realize that killing other kids is the wrong thing to do. And maybe we should drop it. and why must we sue every one? money money money. what a shame.

I had said to friends I give it 3 months and we will be hearing a lot about children missing and being abducted.well now look what we got.

Having not been a great kid and having been a little violent myself, I blame the kid for his actions. I impune the parents for thier lack of interest and control in teaching the child that there are other ways. What is a loving caring parent besides forgetful,,most parents I know forgot what being a child is like.

Yes, I agree completely with the authors. Yes, sometimes very, very bad children are seen with the best of parents. I hate to say this, but the mom in Iowa who killed her "off the chart" child a few years back (she got life) did the right thing. And no, she shouldn't have gotten a stiff sentence.

I wish I had read this sooner. This is an easy one and I cannot believe that society has not figured it out. COMPUTER GAMES! Thats right, those games our children play daily on tv and on the computers. Have you taken the time to watch these games? One game shows a man completely tearing to top of a females torso from her body only leaving the spine. They blow everything up and shoot everything. They teach children to defy authority. Wake up people. Your government isn't going to to anything about it, there is too much money at stake. If you don't do anything about these games, noone will. These games weren't around 15 years ago, guns were. So stop placing blame where it doens't belong. I wish Rosie O'Donell would go after these computer game manufacturers. Maybe then, she could truly have an impact on saving children.

shame on hypocrites
