In a growing national trend, environmentalists are putting stickers on parked SUVs to remind their owners that they are polluting the air more than smaller cars.

Some motorists say that the stickers are vandalism and are defacing their property.

A Boulder environmentalist said that SUV drivers are defacing the air.

Boulder police say that the man's tactics are not a crime, but they discourage anyone from doing it.

What do you think?

Drew better hope I never catch him putting a sticker on my vehicle. Nobody has the right to touch any of my vehicles, especially this guy. The state subjects my vehicles to emissions testing and as long as I meet those standards I have the right to drive them. Since when does somebody have the right to deface my property?

I think it's a great educational device and I support their effort 100%. I think it is such a good idea that I am going to make up some bumper stickers and help in the effort. One way or the other, Americans need to be educated about the direct impact their choices have on the environment. Regardless of the consensus reality of mainstream society, we are part of, not seperate from the natural world. Our whole society pays a price when the environment is abused. Are we going to let the situation get to the point that only rich people are allowed to breathe?

Anything to get the big SUVs off the road and make the front range safer is good. They should be given a good citizen award.

Big SUVs pollute a lot more than cars, and they are so big that they block other driver's views and create potential accidents.

SUVs are causing fuel prices to skyrocket so we all suffer. SUVs clog up roads, cause delays at traffic lights, waste gas, and have high rollover rates.

Finally, in a place like Denver, which claims to be religious, big SUVs violate all 7 deadly sins: pride, envy, gluttony, lust, wrath, covetousness, and sloth.

Would you like to do a story on: "What Do You Think About Conservative Christians Who Put Stickers on SUVs?

Putting a sticker on someone else's vehicle is in fact vandalism and should be treated as such.

Now a comment not to be taken too seriously: He may be able to run fast and outrun one of his vandalism victims on foot, but I really doubt he could outrun a big block V8 truck on 44" tires!

So this guy can run fast uh? I hope he can for his sake. How would drivers of small cars like stickers saying "I'm slow and weak and can't be used for much, but I'm easy on the ENVIROMENT"?

We don"t hassel them like that and should be able to expect the same courtesy in return!

From the article:

"Boulder police say that the man's tactics are not a crime, but they discourage anyone from doing it." Bologna. It is a crime, according to Title 5, Chapter 4, Subsection 15, which reads, in part:

b)No person shall post a sign on private property without the express permission of the owner thereof. This prohibition does not extend to communications intended solely for the owner or occupant of the private property whose posting does not damage that property nor require a trespass.

I conlude from the article that this "Drew" person does not have permission to deface these vehicles, and I would expect the Boulder Police Department to have a chat with Mr. Drew forthwith.

First of all I am disappointed that Channel 7 would interview this Mr. Drew person on tv, show his website. I'm sure the Channel 7 staff have their share of SUV's and probably wouldn't like their SUV's "vandalized" with these stickers. As I've seen in the forum they have now opened the door for more copycats to follow suit. I definitely feel this is flat out vandalism and should not be tolerated or advocated!!!! If these vehicles were "defacing the air", then that needs to be addressed at another level, not with the consumer. So what next. Should we maybe jail someone with a cold that's sneezing???? Or maybe you can provide Mr. Drews address so we can stop by his house and post some stickers on his garage or his car "thanking" him for taking care of the air for us. I understand the free speech thing, and allowing opinions on the air, but am highly disappointed that Channel 7 would advocate/promote acts of vandalism such as this.

" . . .If these vehicles were "defacing the air", then that needs to be addressed at another level, not with the consumer."

Aren't the consumers, the SUV owners, ultimately responsible? Afterall, people buy these wasteful behemoths without giving any thought to the effects these inefficient machines have on the environment. Consumers have the power to influence industry; unfortunately, too many people (like mem77), believe that the responsibility for their actions lie elsewhere.

I'm glad "Drew" is bringing this issue to light. Perhaps the SUV owners are so upset because they don't want to think about the consequences of their actions - - they would rather blithely consume away without considering the ramifications of their choices.

No wonder the rest of the world thinks Americans are spoiled brats . . .

Man, there sure seems to be a lot of enviromentalist-wacos responding to this one.

I for one am going to burn an extra gallon of gas tonight just to tick you guys off. Then I think I'll grill a big fat steak using more charco than I need to.

See Ya's Later,

I consider that defacing personal property. And if I caught someone puting any kind of stick on my SUV, they would have a minor problem on there hands. Besides, every time we fill up at the pumps were are reminded of what we drive. What about those cheap little diesels, or those big rigs that just darken the skies. Well those Environmentalists need something to pick on us about I guess to keep our attention off the skeletons they have in there own closets..
