The latest version of the so-called telemarketing bill easily passed through the state senate earlier this year. But it lost momentum by the time it reached the house. Tuesday, the House Busines Affairs committee could vote to kill the bill.

Senate bill 93 is designed to combat telephone solicitations by establishing a no-call list for telephone solicitations.

Some lawmakers said that this bill mimicks a no-call list already being used on the national level.

Would killing the telemarketing bill represent the interest of Coloradans, or the interests of telemarketing lobbyists?

Tell us what you think.

I think this is nothing more than another case of businesses buying out congress. Nevermind what the voters want, all that matters is what those with the money want.

I'm not against receiving solicitor calls from companies with which I already do business (e.g. phone companies). Often they have decent offers, and occasionally I have taken them up on some special they're running. But any company that I have not expressly contacted for their service, and with which I do not currently do business has NO excuse for interrupting me in my home. Just yesterday I received 7 unsolicited calls at my home, all of which I suspect were from the same company trying to get me back as a customer. I'm sorry, but this is nothing more than invasive. They call at all hours of the day and evening, the latest call I've received was at almost 10pm. Thank god for Caller ID... now if it says "unavailable" I just don't answer the phone - if it's someone I know, they can leave a message and I'll call them back.

Lawmakers caved to special interest commercial groups, and screwed the rest of us. Maybe we should start calling them at all hours of the day and night, asking for donations to the "Stop the Telemarketers" campaign...

Has anyone checked to see if any of the Representatives have interests in the telemarketing business? If not, will someone please check it out? If you are tired of the "pushy sweatbox" people, put yor 2 cents here, maybe someone will notice.

thank you george, Fort Collins

It is a sad state of affairs when the rights of a business comes before a individual's rights. What bothers me so much about the telemarketers that call my home is that they are rude. If you state that you are not interested in their product or services, they become vindictive. I have been hung up on, told what a fool I am for not showing interest in their product or service, and called after 8 PM or later. This is not all telemarketers, but a conservative estimate, I would have to guess would be 60%. I am sick of it. Currently, I do not pick up the telephone if the caller ID states 'unavailable' or 'private name, private number'. Unfortunately, important calls or friends names also sometimes show up as 'unavailable' or 'private name, private number'. I would have liked to have seen Bill 93 go somewhere. What are our legislators thinking of......................not the individual.
