Amendment 54 would prohibit companies, unions, and their officers from making campaign contributions to a political party or a candidate if they have been awarded a sole source, no-bid contract by local or state government.

Supporters said this will ensure those who receive a no-bid contract will not influence the political process, it increases government transparency so the public can watch over the process, holds the elected officials accountable for receiving campaign money, and puts all companies on equal footing.

Opponents said this interferes with the individual's rights to donate to campaigns, is almost impossible to monitor, and will allow political insiders to manipulate the system and overturn valid elections.

What do you think of Amendment 54? How will you vote on it?

Why not truly deal with all Campaign Contributions by outlawing all of them? Set up a 24/7/365 TV channel that does nothing but carry political ads and interviews. It could be set up so no candidate could seek or accept contributions or gifts of any kind? If gifts were discovered the candidate would automatically be out of the running. It would certainly go further toward eliminating the buying of our politicians that we've managed to do so far.

This measure prevents Unions from supporting political campaigns! Do you really think that major corporations are going to be bound by the same rules?

truely,

Individuals don't have to go through unions to contribute to campaigns. This amendment is a step in the right direction to get lobbyists out of the government.

Vote YES.

For what it's worth,

Jason
