Amendment 51 would end the wait list for services and increases the Colorado sales and use tax by two-tenths of a cent over a two year period.

Supporters said this is a modest solution that doesn't cut any other programs, and with wait times lasting as long as 10 years and the demand quickly growing, the lack of funding is at a point of crisis.

Opponents said this will hurt the poorest citizens the most and the sales tax money is supposed to be used for all state programs, not for a specific purpose.

How do you feel about Amendment 51? How would you vote on it?

I am ashamed of this God fearing state and how they failed to pass this amendment. Why is it that the conservatives seem to feel that life ceases to have meaning after the child is born?

The Christian right are willing to spend money and effort to try passing amendment 48 to protect a zygote, but once that baby is born then everyone is on their own! Have autism or down syndrome? Well then just suck it up! Your problems are not worth any money out of my pocket!

To those who felt so strongly that you had to fight against this amendment, I feel sorry for you. These people currently are having to wait many years for these services, and there doesn't seem to be any feeling of empathy. I can't understand that mentality at all, and I really wonder what they are teaching at your church.

There's a saying that democrats act more like Christians and republicans talk more like Christians. Failing to pass this bill once again proves this statement to be accurate. I pray that the republican party will drop their "moral high ground" hypocrisy. It's an embarrassment to organized religion.

Colorado can build a football stadium for the rich to play in, yet cannot muster up 2cents on 10dollars for the developmentally disabled? Help me understand THAT one people?

I am shocked at the blue state of Colorado that now says they won't help those in need. Shame on anyone who voted No on this and Yes on the stadium. Your priorities are messed up and your actions are selfish. You think only of your own pleasure.

The government wastes plenty of our money. If it's such a small increase, I'm sure they can fund it from the money they already get from us.

Vote NO.

For what it's worth,

Jason
